Test Drive Meme - November Edition

Welcome to the Rekindle Test Drive!
Trying to see if a character will fit or work in the setting? Need some interaction samples? Well this meme is for you!

Make a post, tag around, and most importantly, have fun! Here's the setting page for those who want to learn a little more about the city itself.

Then don't forget to go reserve your character, GO GO GO.......

Here's some prompts to help you get started, if you need it:
Option 1
[Wherever you were, whatever you were doing, it doesn't matter. All it takes is blinking, or stepping into a dark room before the lights are turned on. Anything to obscure your vision for a moment.

Just a moment, but in that moment, a pull is felt, and suddenly, you are elsewhere. Just where that 'elsewhere' happens to be is something that needs to be figured out.

It appears to be a busy city, though, so it shouldn't be too hard finding anyone at all! Feel free to explore, try to find answers, or just take a moment to catch your breath. Whatever it was that pulled you to this place left you feeling a tad disoriented.]
Option 2
[Though the temperatures have been remarkably warm for the beginning of the season, the humidity has finally given way to a crisp, cool feeling in the air that is far more refreshing to those not used to a tropical or sub-tropical 'fall'. All of the stock is being rotated out of the Mall and Marketplace by the dutiful shop keepers - the bright colors and shorter cuts of summer clothing being replaced by the more muted, richer earth tones and the long sleeves of the proper season. In celebration of the start of the equivalent of 'fall' in the city, all the stores are holding a special - should you wish to purchase any new clothes for the shifting season and arrive at the counter with a friend, you get a discount!

Perhaps you should find someone to purchase your items with...?]
Option 3
[There is practically no warning for the change in the weather. One moment, the air is crisp and cool, and the skies only have a few clouds. The next moment, the skies have darkened and the clouds up above have opened up into a steady, unrelenting rainfall. Luckily, there seem to be a number of small shelters erected at even intervals along the streets.

There seems to be enough room under those shelters for two to three people to stand - perhaps there's even someone standing under one now, waiting for the rain to pass. At least you'll have someone to talk to while you wait out the rain!]
Option 4
[Whoops. Looks like you haven't taken the cautionary words of the other NPCs to heart, or maybe you just wanted to take your chances. Either way, the withdrawal symptoms have started and you need to find someone to hug quickly before you get even more sick.]
Option 5
[If there's something else you wanted to play with, that you didn't see here, then have fun with that. You've just arrived in a strange city, after all. There's got to be plenty to explore out and about, not to mention people to meet.]

"Least you still have people. Monsters, you can deal with. Might be hard, but it's doable. Least as far as I can tell from how you're describing it."

Or, to be specific, how little she was making it sound like a complete apocalypse.

"There's worse fates out there. You'll get through it. Humanity too. Assuming any of us ever get out of here, anyway."

Which...was pretty much the closest thing to reassurance that Korso could muster. Still, he liked to think he was a good judge of character. Off the bat, the Doc at least seemed like she had a good head on her shoulders. Smart, and still fairly sane. Two things that tended to put the odds in someone's favor.

"As for the hugs powering this place- I'm just a soldier. Well, I was just a soldier. I find it's usually easier not to think too long on things outside your field of expertise. If they say it works, and this place isn't falling to the ground around us, it might just be best to take their word for it. Not that escaping's off the table, but in the meantime, it pays not to try and test these things."

Because that road? That road had a tendency to lead to some pretty serious problems.

"I know. For awhile I didn't believe that, but one has to have hope." Or everything would crumble for sure.

"Well, I'm more of a scientist than a soldier. Our job is to question things and, honestly, there's far too many unanswered questions floating around here for me to feel comfortable." Not that she was going to mention it, but Holiday did have a plan to test these things, so to speak. She just hasn't gotten everything together yet or figured out exactly how to play it.

"I think we're dealin' with a different type of questioning here, doc."

The kind a detective'd be a little better suited to finding answers about. Whatever was going on, they weren't dealing with an unknown phenomenon. The locals had to know something.

"As for all that hope...well, just because a little goes a long way, doesn't mean it's a good idea to have a lot of it. It's got a tendency to get toxic if you get enough of it together."

"We've had plenty of different types of questioners come and go. Something will give eventually somewhere. We just don't know where yet." The locals seem determined to not speak, but perhaps one of these days once things go too far.

Though, she smiles. "Maybe. Being realistic isn't bad, but hope has kept me going for this long. There isn't always a lot, but it's there when needed." Only fools had too much or someone who was really desperate.

That gets a brief, but genuine laugh out of him. "I wasn't talking about the kind that asks nicely to get answers. Good old fashioned breaking and entering, communication intercepts, that sort of thing. They don't wanna give answers, we're gonna have to take 'em."

Which, really, was probably going to be easier said than done. But it wasn't like he hadn't had to deal with those types of situations before. Nothing was ever easy.

"Well, maybe you've got a point there."

Not like his cynicism and me-first attitude had done him any favors. It did get him killed, in a way. But at the same time, it'd also kept him alive for quite a while, so he wasn't set to abandon it entirely.

"So, now, I guess it's just a question of what the next step is from here. And I'm startin' to think it might not be such a bad idea to get to know my fellow 'guests' before doing anything else."

Which means, he's tossing the shirt he's decided to keep over one arm, and moving a little closer to the rack Holiday was browsing. When he gets there, he'll offer out his free hand for a friendly handshake.

"Captain Joseph Korso. And it's nice to see another human on the guest list."

"We've had those types, too. Thankfully, I just barely managed to talk him out of it." Because kidnapping and tying a person down until they talked was a little much at the time. It's still a possibility for her, sure, but that time has yet to come.

"Doctor Rebecca Holiday," she smiled, taking his hand in a firm handshake, "Don't worry, there's several of us here, just some in different packages than others. Don't freak out if there's suddenly a rain cloud in your apartment complex. It's apparently normal for some."
captainbadass: (Come on you can TOTALLY trust me!)

"Should've let him go through with it. Might have more answers than we've got now. From the sound of it, asking nicely hasn't been working."

Granted, he'd disapprove of the method, if he knew what she was talking about. But only because it was inefficient. First, you'd have to know whether or not the person was lying- and when you've got no other evidence to speak of, that's a little tricky. Two, it'd create the problem of what to do with the person afterward once the questioning was done. Letting him live would create the risk of the rest of the locals knowing what you'd done, killing him would create the problem of how to cover it up. If it could be covered up. Better to just sneak around looking for hard evidence rather than testimony or confessions.

He didn't have too much time to plan out a scenario of his own though, he had pleasantries to keep up with. And he flashed another smile as he felt Holiday's grip tighten. Definitely more than he'd anticipated from the science-y type.

"I'll keep it in mind. But expect some form of freak out, if that's the case. Probably of the angry variety."

Swearing would probably be involved. As would threats to rend the offending party limb from bloody limb if they did not fix the situation immediately. Despite his usually personable nature, Korso was a force to be reckoned with once his temper flared. Which, wasn't going to happen in the foreseeable future, thankfully.

"Heck of a grip for a lab rat. Field work?"

Not the most crushing handshake he'd ever received, but he was still glad to have his own hand back. After making sure to treat her to the same, of course. He was the captain, after all. Best to convey that authority every chance he could get, even if he didn't have the Valkyrie with him.

AND I'M HERE

"Might have some answers we don't want, as well. We're in their territory so it's best to be on the safe side for the time being."

On the other hand, she agreed to that tactic to a point. If done right, maybe it could have helped, but it didn't work so they were still stuck here doing what they've been doing.

"Just remember that those people making the rain clouds are doing so on accident and happen to be very powerful." At least, the one she ran into seemed that way.

Holiday smirked at his comment on her grip, but didn't balk at his own. Men always had to show off and she was used to it from her position. "You could say that. I've often had to work as field medic back home, but that's a long story. To put it simply, I much prefer the lab."
