Welcome to the Rekindle Test Drive! Trying to see if a character will fit or work in the setting? Need some interaction samples? Well this meme is for you! Make a post, tag around, and most importantly, have fun! Here's the setting page for those who want to learn a little more about the city itself. Then don't forget to go reserve your character in a week when they open. Here's some prompts to help you get started, if you need it: Option 1 [While the days grow longer and warmer and the older, oriental-style of the city would normally make one think that the interiors would not be much in the way of relief from the hot sun, it may surprise the guest to see that the apartments the natives have allocated for them are surprisingly comfortable. In fact, the only modern convenience they may be missing is a television set! At least, outside the media floor on the first floor of Building One - the first of four inter-connected buildings. In fact, each apartment building seems to have at least one different amenity on the first floor. In Building Two they seemed to even spare a library in another that seems to have the basics and some information packets that are otherwise found in the Welcome Center in District 2. There are even a few restaurants and common dining areas in the Building Three that are open until late at night, and meeting areas and a ballroom on the first floor in Building Four, perfect for setting up small parties or big events. With the locals gone save those who work in the restaurants and the one librarian, leaving you to your own devices, what will you do? What mysteries could be left to discover in this place?] Option 2 [With summer coming, the water level in the river is starting to go down, exposing some of the beach. The Riverside Shack is open late, and its restaurant is pulling out all the stops and offering seafood specials (even though a river is a far cry from an ocean). The rental store, meanwhile, is finally bringing out more of its swimming supplies, inner tubes and pool noodles, and a calmer stretch of the river has been roped off with buoys for swimming. They even have lifeguards chairs set up. Clearly this sort of thing used to be an annual event. It's not quite an ocean beach (quite different actually), but there's still plenty of chance to have fun in the water. Or teach someone to swim, perhaps.] Option 3 [If you're more inclined to explore or learn, the City's Learning Center might be more to your tastes. There certainly seems to be a lot going on here - there's laboratories and libraries and workshops, and plenty of communal areas where you can meet and talk with people. The natives seem pretty absorbed with their studies and work, though they're polite in brushing you off, at least. Perhaps you'll have more luck seeing what other Guests such as yourself have discovered?] Option 4 [Whoops. Looks like you haven't taken the cautionary words of the other NPCs to heart, or maybe you just wanted to take your chances. Either way, the withdrawal symptoms have started and you need to find someone to hug quickly before you get even more sick.] Option 5 [If there's something else you wanted to play with, that you didn't see here, then have fun with that. You've just arrived in a strange city, after all. There's got to be plenty to explore out and about, not to mention people to meet.]

[As soon as the first word is out of her mouth, Ember's awkward smile turns into a look of complete confusion.]

Huh? You know I'm not -

[And she just keeps going.]

[Cathy's not really the shy sort. Really, her curiosity has almost always overcome her good sense. So, when the golem stops at her prompting, even feeling as ill as she does she can't contain that spark of interest that lights up in her eye. She's seen all kinds of things in the Nightside: demon bikers, necromancers, alien technology, and all kinds of time travelers. This guy is new though, and if he's friendly enough to accept the offer then she'll gladly take the opportunity to kill two birds with one stone.]

Won't bother me a bit, if you don't mind me asking you a bit about yourself.

[Rising up to her feet with his help, she flashes him a smile.]

I'm Cathy.

It's not like I'm going all the way in.

[Immediate reaction to strangers: sass.]

But if something's gonna bite me or something, I'd rather have my shoes on.

[ He rubs her shoulder idly. Yeah. Hangovers are one thing-- they're at least familiar. But this strange, alien feeling born of something he's grown to be so comfortable with, being alone... That's something else entirely. At least having a clutch here would be to his advantage, all that closeness made necessary by sharing a cave. A decade of a human existence has worn off on him, though. He feels anxious just thinking about that much contact with others, especially people who don't know what he is.

Thus why it's easier with Cathy. And why he can joke with her. ]

Ain't gone all scaly an' four-legged yet. Don't think I'd get many people willin' to cozy up with me that way, yeah?

Some guy that looks like me and keeps following me around.

[And trying to kill him and apparently harrassing him via telepathy or something.]

[Taking full advantage of their current proximity, Cathy nuzzles her cheek against his shoulder and closes her eyes for a bit. He might not be from home, might not be the people she's familiar with from the Nightside, but he's a piece of Sacrosanct that has become dear to her, and she feels entirely at ease.]

You know I would no matter what form you were in, Ladon.

[He might have been joking but Cathy is serious.]

Unless you hadn't taken a bath in which case we might have to get you scrubbed down first, really.

[There's definitely a lot different from what she's used to, whether it be the size or the outfit or the overall demeanor, but one thing that is vaguely familiar is the expression of distrust, even though it's been years since it was first aimed at her and she hasn't seen it too often since. Following his gaze, she looks out at the river, then back. She kicks her toe against the ground a little awkwardly, though her voice makes it clear she's trying at humor.]

There's nothing wrong with the water.

[She's already waded around in it a little. Not too far, as she hasn't had a chance to officially hone her swimming skills yet, but enough to guarantee it is water.]

[Yogi enjoys his embrace and listens carefully to his story, actually quite interested in what he has to say.]

So you like things like rallys? What about parades abd circuses? And other places that have performers?

[Even though the "Circus" organization he belonged to were elite crime fighters, they still were...an actual circus. Complete with performances.]

[A masked figure cloaked in black kneels quietly outside of the learning center, apparently resting. Or perhaps waiting for somebody.]

[In truth, she's meditating, trying to focus her senses. The young prince must be somewhere close by. She'd be a poor servant indeed if she were to be whisked away to another world entirely without being able to do something about it.]

[So yes. She's still in denial. She's also getting hungry, but she can go without food for a while.]

[Yep. Yogi's gonna walk over there and give you a big hug. He's kind of used to people who behave like this. Congratuations, you've just gotten a big bear hug, whether you wanted it or not.]

[It may sound like a dumb question, but that's why he distrusts it. Also, Xion is someone entirely unfamiliar to him, but she reminds him of Naminé...hope she's not offended by that.]

She has to admit, it really is nice in this place. Strange, but nice a way.

Not that she's managed to adjust far enough to walk around unarmored, a decision she's kind of regretting at this point after seeing how nice the water looks. When's the last time she got to go for a swim without having to keep her eyes open for a potential attack? Unfortunately with the heavy suit of armor she's got on, actually taking more than a step or two into the water at the most would be anywhere from foolish to potentially quite dangerous.

Still, this won't stop her from walking alongside the water, just enjoying a peaceful walk at the moment. She's also decided to at least remove her helmet for the moment, tucking it under one arm in the hopes she can avoid appearing intimidating when approaching people because to be honest? It hasn't taken long for her to start getting a little bit lonely without any of her friends here.

And she's never had much trouble approaching strangers either, which is why she's decided to chance approaching the blue haired girl near the water, smiling warmly at her as she does so.

"It's nice out here isn't here?"

[A...cat? Yuugi stared down at her and smiled. He liked animals and generally they liked him. He was something of a friendly boy all around.]

Ah, Kitty...Here Neko-chan. [He crouched down to her level, sticking his hand out to show he wasn't going to hurt her.]

[The city intrigues her. She's not as stressed out about it as most would be, as she's been reassured that when she's able to return to her world, it'll be at the same point as when she left. Even if that weren't the case, Bison has been defeated, and her heart is at peace. She'll take the optimistic view and see this as a sort of impromptu vacation. The city itself is nice enough, and she's fairly friendly. A hug a day doesn't seem so bad, and she's made a few friends, so it's not all that awkward.]

[The Chinese Interpol agent is currently seated at a table of an outdoor bistro, enjoying a cup of coffee while idly perusing some of the pamphlets she picked up from the information center.]

[He scratches behind the cat's ears. He's even starting to grin now. He wonders who this cat belongs to and how it got here. Did this strange city also import animals too? Hmm...]

I wonder what your name is. Of course you can't tell me, though.

[Richard came here to learn more about their situation. What he sees would seem to require a certain amount of intercession.

Richard puts a gentle hand on Pascal's shoulder.] Pascal. I think they're rather absorbed in their work. Perhaps you'd have better luck waiting until they're finished.

[ It's hard to flash a smile back when it rarely leaves his face to begin with, but it does widen somewhat for a moment. Oh, and he has a little spiel for this too, to give in response for her name.

He frees one hand and puts it over the red heart-shaped patch upon his chest, leaving the other holding on to Cathy's. It's physical contact after all, and even a handshake helps, he knows! ]

Happy to meet you, Cathy! I'm Talrovian, legally, but I'm going to get it changed to 'Thomas' whenever I get back home. I'll answer to anything, though! I get all sorts of nicknames. Even 'hey you' works in a pinch!

[ With a gentlemanly little flourish, he gestures towards the common room couches. He won't move towards them any faster than she can, and he's prepared to let her lean on him. ]

[Okay, uh. Wow. There are way more books than Chie was anticipating. Ugh, and she just finished all that studying too, couldn't she just relax and enjoy a normal summer break?]

Ugh...

[Not particularly thrilled with the prospect, Chie drags her feet upon reaching the library. Research is absolutely not her forte, but the others aren't around, so she's got to roll up her sleeves and figure out how to return home to Inaba.]

[But where is she supposed to even start? Maybe under 'H' for 'Home'...?]

[When she was told that the beach was now available to the public, a river wasn't exactly what Raye had in mind. She peers at the sandy riverbed critically, one hand on her hip, her sunbathing supplies tucked beneath her other arm. A beach was supposed to indicate an ocean, not a stupid river! She'd probably wind up stepping on a rotten fish head if she waded in there. And she'd put on her new red one-piece swimsuit, too, tch...!]

[Miffed, and more than a little disappointed, Raye claims a spot under the full sunlight and snaps out her beach chair. Once settled, she rubs on the sunscreen and slides on the sunglasses. Might as well get a tan, since she lugged all her stuff here already.]

[In the background, there is a redhead. He is lurking back by the door of the research hall, not wanting to get in the way because all the researchers he knows are moody freaks with revenge journals.

When he sees Pascal bouncing around, though?

Kindred spirit.]

They really are grumpy, aren't they?

[Ember's voice isn't quite as loud as Pascal's, though. He's got some manners, even if they're a little... Weird.]

They're the ones who brought us here, they should be sharing.
