Welcome to the Rekindle Test Drive! Trying to see if a character will fit or work in the setting? Need some interaction samples? Well this meme is for you! Make a post, tag around, and most importantly, have fun! Here's the setting page for those who want to learn a little more about the city itself. Then don't forget to go reserve your character in a week when they open. Here's some prompts to help you get started, if you need it:

Option 1

[The midsummer heat is still in full swing. But that's okay - enterprising residents on the riverbanks are renting out innertubes for you to float along the cool waters in. The catch? They're innertubes for two, and you're sharing with the person ahead of/behind you in line! Get nice and cozy, you two.]

Option 2

[There's something odd about some of the shops in the third district. There doesn't seem to be any pattern - it's something that can be found in all sorts of establishments. But if you see the twin daisy sign in the window, it turns out that you can get a discount when making a purchase with someone else. It could be someone you know, or someone new entirely, but so long as you both reach the checkout at the same time, you get the discount - a pretty substantial one too! So hey, look and see if there's anyone else shopping with you! Could be a great way to stretch the allowance you've been given.]

Option 3

[Even if there are no children among the natives, it doesn't stop the adults from being a little immature - or maybe the heat's just getting to them. If you glance around, you might notice almost-hidden baskets of water balloons, tucked under benches and against trash cans... If you didn't notice, though, it might be an awful surprise when one hits the back of your head. And when you whip around to look - well, it's probably not immediately obvious who the culprit is. Will you brush it off, yell and scream, or take revenge on the town at large?]

Option 4

[Whoops. Looks like you haven't taken the cautionary words of the other NPCs to heart, or maybe you just wanted to take your chances. Either way, the withdrawal symptoms have started and you need to find someone to hug quickly before you get even more sick.]

Option 5

[If there's something else you wanted to play with, that you didn't see here, then have fun with that. You've just arrived in a strange city, after all. There's got to be plenty to explore out and about, not to mention people to meet.]

[Shinjiro feels like he can move, now that Aki's let go of him. He'll have to do it again eventually. Maybe more later if the sickness doesn't pass. He still doesn't know how it works.]

I ain't gonna walk up to a random stranger and start blabbering about the weather.

[He's spent the last two years separating himself from people, and is just now reconnecting ties with Akihiko and SEES. It's going to be hard.]

Asking for info isn't irrelevant, right?

[Or Shinji could just ask him. Akihiko pays more attention to the network, in case people need help. Or are being stupid and need to get smacked upside the head.]

I know you're not gonna befriend everyone here, Shinji. Still, you've gotta have a back-up plan, just in case. [Akihiko straightens up and fixes his friend with a stern look.] Hell, you don't even tell me when you need help.

[It's no secret how much Akihiko hates that separation tactic. His best friend has been drifting away from him for two years, when they used to spend all their time together. It's a big shock for him, a huge change of pace that he would much rather not get acclimated to.]

But now you know, so... don't wait till it's too late.

[In time, he'd be knowledgeable as well. He didn't want to rely on anyone aside from the minimum amount of physical contact he'd need to stay functional.

He stands up and grabs his purchases. Few in number, but all from an obvious destination.]

You made your point.

[He knows when he's being dismissed.

Carefully, he keeps the emotion off of his face, and puts on a neutral look. It's not like the pushing away doesn't hurt him. He just never talks about it.]

[With a slight wave, Akihiko turns around and runs off. Shinji may need contact to keep up his energy, but he doesn't need him specifically. Akihiko plans to do what he can, and outside of that... he isn't sure what to expect.]

Bloody--! Who dares?!

[Uh-oh. Whoever thought it would be hilarious to throw so much as a water balloon at the young Hellsing heir has another thing coming. This means war, you know. This tiny knight is seething.]

[Was he... actually telling her truth just now? Nami had known that the surface world was weird but this took that strangeness to a whole new level. Not only that but she was already kind of busy with the not-to-small task of finding a way to save her people. And not only that but...

Touching? Well there was a lot of that but she didn't really think much of it until now.]

I don't know. [Did she feel like trying to move around on her own again? Yeah.] Can I wait until we make it to the river? I'd at least like to get that done before doing anything else.

Whoops! Sorry!

[And there's Nozomi, a water balloon in her hand and just grinning like a dog. She doesn't even bother to hide the balloon in any way. Then again, having arrived in a place where she's REAL again, she wasn't going to take any chances. She just didn't expect to hit someone who was going to get angry.]

The evasiveness is more than a little annoying...But it does open up a new line of conversation for her to pursue. If M'gann doesn't completely brighten up, she at least flashes a quick smile when she listens.

"Oh! Well, that I can definitely do something about." M'gann offers him a hand like she's seen other people on Earth do. Though she's not fully sure if he'll take it or not. "I'm M'gann M'orzz. And you are?"

[She's not even a little bit sorry- though she might not be so close if she wasn't examining her after her question as if to make sure she isn't just imagining things. When Nami replies, she's met with first a startled and then a sulky expression, like someone who's just been immensely disappointed.]

Hey, just making sure.

[Damn. So it is a person- even if it is a fish-person.

Dammit, just her luck, really.]

Well then why are you flopping around like that?

"How do I know this isn't just allergies or something?"

[redpeacoat]

Handshake...right. He had to make physical contact with people here. He reluctantly takes her hand and gives it a polite shake.

"Shinjiro Aragaki."

[redpeacoat]

[No matter how much his best friend tries to hide it, Aki is always going to be emotional crybaby in his eyes. It's not always a bad thing, but...he knows his solitude bugs him. He wishes it didn't.

Once Akihiko's back to his running, he immediately heads home. Rest sounds good.]

[That's one crisis averted, at least, not that Nami had actually been made aware of the girl's intentions. Which was probably for the best, all things considered.]

Because for whatever reason, I can't use my magic to help me move around on dry land.

[Against her better judgement, she actually decides to try it again. And this time, she actually manages to make some progress! She manages to stay upright as she begins to lift herself just a few inches off the floor and... Nope, false alarm, as she once again comes crashing down.

Being a mermaid is hard.]

Charlie Bradbury - Option 3

When the water splashed its way across her back, Charlie's mind instantly went to demon attack. About the same moment she realized how stupid that was, her mind latched her computer instead - but no, that was safely at home. A good thing, since that was the closest thing she had to a connection back home, and a reminder that she wasn't just crazy.

Finally she stopped to wonder who had actually thrown that - just in time for another blast to strike her in the head.

[littlewhitelies]

"Sorry! Those ones went a little wide!" Comes a voice from nearby, followed by a green blur as the owner of that voice waves her arm in apology. "Didn't mean to hit you; we were just trying some dodging and aim."

M'gann waves aside whoever else she's been playing water balloon assault with, putting her focus instead on the person who was caught in the cross fire. "Are you ok?"

[not_really_charlie]

"Fine." Random. Cute. Green girl? Her mind flicks to demon, before bouncing off and landing on little green martian men. Yeah. Right. If they were this cute, she'd have probably welcomed an invasion.

"I'm... Fine. Just.. A little. Washed up."

[littlewhitelies]

"Heh," she gives an awkward giggle, not fully sure if that's something she's supposed to laugh at or not. "Well...I think there's some towels close by, if you need them? That was my fault, sorry; my aim is usually a lot better than that."

[not_really_charlie]

"Towels... would be good." Though she wasn't sure how much good it would do her poor tee shirt. The sarcastic bunny rabbit on her shirt was looking more sad than snarky, with the watery splotches.

[littlewhitelies]

"Okay! Just hang on a second," M'gann stretches her hand out as she speaks, and...

...Give it a minute...

...There. Two towels whipping around the corner and into her hand, as M'gann gives a pleased-with-herself-for-planning-ahead grin. "We thought it would be good to have those on hand, with throwing a bunch of water around. Just didn't think we'd need to use them on anyone else." Still, she can at least hold them out now.

[not_really_charlie]

Right. That freaked out look on Charlie's face? That's her wondering if maybe M'gann really is a demon after all. (Which is way less ridiculous than her being a martian, of course.)

She's staring at the towel more than M'gann. Until one of the words registers. "We?"

[littlewhitelies]

"Oh...The person I was practicing with. It's been really hot out, and...Kind of hard to do regular training or work outs, so something like this sounded a lot more fun. Less exhausting either." She glances up towards the sky as she speaks, giving an awkward shrug.

"I don't...Do so well with the heat, sometimes." It's when she glances back that M'gann catches said freaked out look, and blanches for a moment.

"E-everything ok?"

Calm down, Charlie. You've been getting used to weirdness, right? This is like. Something from a comic book. "Do most people float things with their heads where you're from?"

and they can get there whenever you feel like, sorry for the delay XD

Yeah, of course. [ No Nami he was just going to drop you on the road and see if you flopped again (he hopes she didn't really think he would have done that...) ]

[littlewhitelies]

"Good to meet you, Shinjiro." She tests the name, trying the syllables, and actually beams when something occurs to her.

"Hey, they sort of sound alike, don't they? I mean, same number of beats and everything. That's kind of nice!"

"I've never met a martian who can't use psychic abilities." M'gann replies easy enough, though when her smile comes back it's on the hesitant side. "It's something we all know how to do...But I-I know that it's not common with people from Earth."
