Welcome to the Rekindle Test Drive! Trying to see if a character will fit or work in the setting? Need some interaction samples? Well this meme is for you! Make a post, tag around, and most importantly, have fun! Here's the setting page for those who want to learn a little more about the city itself. Then don't forget to go reserve your character in a week when they open. Here's some prompts to help you get started, if you need it:

Option 1

[The midsummer heat is still in full swing. But that's okay - enterprising residents on the riverbanks are renting out innertubes for you to float along the cool waters in. The catch? They're innertubes for two, and you're sharing with the person ahead of/behind you in line! Get nice and cozy, you two.]

Option 2

[There's something odd about some of the shops in the third district. There doesn't seem to be any pattern - it's something that can be found in all sorts of establishments. But if you see the twin daisy sign in the window, it turns out that you can get a discount when making a purchase with someone else. It could be someone you know, or someone new entirely, but so long as you both reach the checkout at the same time, you get the discount - a pretty substantial one too! So hey, look and see if there's anyone else shopping with you! Could be a great way to stretch the allowance you've been given.]

Option 3

[Even if there are no children among the natives, it doesn't stop the adults from being a little immature - or maybe the heat's just getting to them. If you glance around, you might notice almost-hidden baskets of water balloons, tucked under benches and against trash cans... If you didn't notice, though, it might be an awful surprise when one hits the back of your head. And when you whip around to look - well, it's probably not immediately obvious who the culprit is. Will you brush it off, yell and scream, or take revenge on the town at large?]

Option 4

[Whoops. Looks like you haven't taken the cautionary words of the other NPCs to heart, or maybe you just wanted to take your chances. Either way, the withdrawal symptoms have started and you need to find someone to hug quickly before you get even more sick.]

Option 5

[If there's something else you wanted to play with, that you didn't see here, then have fun with that. You've just arrived in a strange city, after all. There's got to be plenty to explore out and about, not to mention people to meet.]

[...What an odd place to be.

It wasn't quite home, but it was...comfortable here for some reason. Maybe it was the weight of everything back home being taken off her shoulders. Maybe it was the fact that it was entirely new to her, or that the people here have been so considerate for people like her. Maybe it was all three.

Not that it really changed the core problem for Alice -- it's been a few days already and, among other things, she was more-or-less hopelessly lost.]

This whole city is too big. [Waaaaaaaaaaaay too big for her, anyway. And as far as she'd seen, there was no transportation. Or if there is, she probably hadn't looked well enough. It was always a possibility with her. But then, she comes across a place to just sit down and relax -- a little tree right next to the river she'd passed by once or twice in her wanderings.

Alice, after some deliberating, decides to climb up and sit on the branch. It wasn't like she was going to get far with how she was faring, anyway.]

[It's a grocery store. You appear to be mostly done shopping. A young man with an reserved (or tired?) and mature demeanour approaches. He is holding three loaves of sliced white bread.] There's a discount if we approach the checkout together.

[As far as emotionless and uninflected monotony goes, the proposition (such that it is) ranks up there.]

Uh... Aren't you getting anything else?

[Kratos looks strangely mundane. It must be the little plastic basket he's carrying. His has more than bread-- there's milk, eggs, cereal, steak, and some other things.

He glances at the sign, then at Satoshi.]

Is that all you're buying?

[ Armed with a modest basket himself, some noodlebody's loitering towards the shopfront as he considers last potential purchases -- and then his attention shifts from food to prey.

Which is to say: Fai smiles. ]

[ there's definitely a skinny little hispanic guy in a labcoat and glasses around town today, and he appears to be taking notes where he goes. he also appears to be faintly distressed, and keeps offering furtive glances over his shoulder, or up at the sky, or in the direction of various shops. he also uses his pen very, very gingerly, as if afraid it might explode or someone might yell at him for it.

he's been in night vale too long, really, and carlos keeps expecting the sheriff's secret police to show up. (pretty much everything is illegal in night vale, after all.)

to be honest, he's also a little bit.. lonely, maybe. which is weird, since he's surrounded by people. but none of those people are cecil. in fact, none of these people are even remotely like cecil, and this place isn't like night vale, and maybe he should be grateful for something vaguely resembling normality, but.. well. after dating an eldritch horror that moonlights as a charming radio host for a few months, it's amazing how your perception of what's 'normal' changes. ]

[ The question comes out from a man of average height and a compact muscular build, just a bit on the side of flat and blunt--nothing like being experimented on for four years to generate skepticism of people in lab coats acting shady as they take notes. Granted Carlos doesn't really seem threatening, so Cloud's not trying to be either, but there definitely are more pleasant tones to use. ]

Kara In-Ze | Superman the Animated Series

Option 1

[Kara's mostly just going on this ride for fun. She notices the heat, in the same way a normal person might notice a light breeze, but it doesn't bother her. Still, she's not gonna miss an opportunity to do something fun. Reaching the front of the line, she turns and grims at the person behind her.] You ready?

Option 2

[Kara loves her uniform, but it's all she had on her at the time, and she's thinking she should probably pick up some other clothes. She's got her eye on a particular white sundress (and her mind on whether she could get a crest emblazoned on it. There's no reason not to flaunt her identity here.) Now she just needs to find someone to go up with her. She glances around quickly, trying to see if she can spot someone who looks both friendly and ready for checkout.]

There's Barbara. The redhead's arms are pretty much just filled with shoes, shirts, and things-that-aren't-a-batgirl-outfit. Kara can flaunt if she wants, but Barbara and Steph are holding onto their identities.

Their not-so-secret, conflicting identities.

But there's no reason Kara has to worry about that. She meets all the proper criteria, right?

Option 1 ok?

[Frankly, M'gann is looking wilted from the heat; being from Mars and having a sensitivity towards temperatures will do that. So having a chance to cool off in the river, instead of hiding in her apartment all day and feeling like she's shutting herself off from the world, is a God-Send. Or H'ronmeer send. However the phrase best works.

She's tired enough that for the moment, she doesn't even go with Caucasian skin, settling instead on green. Something she's aware of as she glances over to the person standing across from her.]

"Um, what about you? Have you ever done this before?"

[IS this something girls can do together? That also occurs to her as she notices who she might be paired up with, and the worry of that flickers across her face.]

Shinjiro Aragaki | Persona 3

Option 3:
[Shinjiro is used to dealing with 'childish' people...his dormitory back home is full of them. That doesn't mean he appreciates their antics. He skulks down the street in his usual attire despite the heat...until a weight hits the back of his neck and explodes into a mass of cold water which will make its way down his back. He arches forwards with a hiss in an attempt to contain his surprise, then turns around with the sourest of looks to shoot at the culprit.]

Option 4:

[Shinjiro knew the rules well enough, and had been getting by well enough with the contact he'd been giving and receiving. Back pats, hand shaking once or twice...it wasn't too bad.

Not using his persona, he didn't notice anything strange until that morning, waking up with a sore throat and the sniffles. Mistaking it for a cold, he was determined not to let what was a minor annoyance in his eyes ruin his plans for the day. He had things to do. Moping around wasn't going to fix a thing.

Maybe a quick rest on a bench will help him. Once his bearings were regained, he'd trek the rest of the way home and make some tea.]

Unfortunately the nearest bench has someone standing next to it. A shirtless girl in a very elaborate, abstract black tattoo and what looked like a fin on the back of her neck.

[In her defense, M'gann didn't mean for things to get so out of control. She just saw that basket of water balloons sitting out, and had to test out these new things.

NOT by looking for targets, either! Just lifting them with her mind and getting a feel for the weight, telekinesis wise. And feeling them ripple and make gurgling sounds just prompted her to try lifting a few more, floating them around in different directions...And finally losing control of one.

Which brings her to the present situation of seeing a hobo young man giving her a wilting look. And her with a few more water balloons floating close by.

A startled 'eep!' seems to be in order right now.]

[Akihiko happened to pass through the area on his run, and upon catching sight of his friend, he quickly jogged over. As he approached him, he called out in greeting to get his attention.] Hey, Shinji!

[He wondered how Shinji was doing, ever since his arrival, knowing full well that the other wasn’t big on physical contact. Both him and Mitsuru were like that, as a matter of fact. Akihiko didn’t have those same reservations, and fervently hoped that Shinji wasn’t going to be one of the stubborn types.]

Option 3
[Nami had a read a little bit about the surface world from what scriptures she had available back home, but nothing could really compare to seeing it live. She couldn't help but be curious about it all, despite it feeling so strange and unusual to her. She was sure that whatever questions she had would've just given her weird looks from the humans. Still, Nami continued to look around and...

Oh, that was definitely water hitting the back of her head.

It felt nice, to be honest, even if it was kind of... sudden?

Wanting to know where it came from, she turned around hoping to find the one responsible.]

Did you do that?

[She doesn't really sound angry at all.]

Option 4
[Despite literally being a fish out of water, Nami's never really had any real problem with staying mobile even on dry land. Of course she greatly preferred the sea but it wasn't a choice she could make right now. The problem, however, was that her land mobility was tied to magic and that... didn't seem to be working all that well right now.

The result? A mermaid flopping about and struggling to get anywhere. Nami really didn't like this, having to drag herself across the floor and feeling so utterly vulnerable.

Maybe someone can help the poor fishlady out?]

[Oh. Oh you're a giant fish.

Granted, you also seem to be part person, but really. The 'fish' thing is the important part here. From a nearby perch, Citra's wings snap open and she peers over the edge of the building again, licking her lips.

Should she really...? She looked like she was part-person, after all...

But then again-- that was enough fish to feed her for a while.


Goodness, what a conundrum.

So sorry, Nami- you're about to have a bird-girl swoop into your face with little regard for personal space. If she was going to eat her, she could at least make sure she wasn't, you know, 'intelligent life' or whatever.]

...He's just...going to assume this is some kind of costume malfunction that's gotten way out of hand and put that weirdness aside to approach her anyway--the space is pretty public and with the amount of success she's having getting back up (he's not even sure she is trying to get back up), she's liable to get stepped on or tripped over soon. He leans over her, offering his hand as his eyes flick to the "tail" again. ] Here...

[ ...Okay. That thing attached to her is moving all wrong for there to be legs underneath it. ] Uh. You okay?

[Well. This was certainly peculiar. Not necessarily in the bad sense, considering she did not seem to be a fiend - even though she more than knows how to deal with one - considering she finds it highly doubtful that they would bring a fiend to their world to begin with.

Though considering her fins and the crawling, she had the strangest inkling that she was more than just a fish out of water. All the sarcasm could not completely cover it.]

[And there's Nozomi, a water balloon in her hand and just grinning like a dog. She doesn't even bother to hide the balloon in any way. Then again, having arrived in a place where she's REAL again, she wasn't going to take any chances. She just didn't expect to hit someone who was going to get angry.]

Charlie Bradbury - Option 3

When the water splashed its way across her back, Charlie's mind instantly went to demon attack. About the same moment she realized how stupid that was, her mind latched her computer instead - but no, that was safely at home. A good thing, since that was the closest thing she had to a connection back home, and a reminder that she wasn't just crazy.

Finally she stopped to wonder who had actually thrown that - just in time for another blast to strike her in the head.

"Sorry! Those ones went a little wide!" Comes a voice from nearby, followed by a green blur as the owner of that voice waves her arm in apology. "Didn't mean to hit you; we were just trying some dodging and aim."

M'gann waves aside whoever else she's been playing water balloon assault with, putting her focus instead on the person who was caught in the cross fire. "Are you ok?"

[Ow. Bright. Bright, bright, really bright. Much brighter than the place this guy had been in last. He's easy to spot, considering the black leather coat he's wearing, and he's finding himself really grateful that he has his hood up to help with the glare from the sun.

In spite of the fact that this is a guy wearing a nearly floor-length black leather coat in the middle of summer, he doesn't seem to be bothered by that. Or by the kind of weather-beaten red, black, and gold armor on his left arm. Instead, he seems to be giving off more of an air of confusion than anything.

Drag the tall guy that must be ready to overheat in that coat out of the sun? Fill him in?]

Option 2

[Looma here is abstaining from some of the more expected purchases, and is instead actually somewhat taken by the jewelry selection. Less by rings and anything with gems though, she's more interested in simple gold or silver adornments. Usually heavy necklaces or thick bracelets, all of which usually involve some sort of ornate design worked into the metal.

Sure, she's a warrior, and depending on your point of view she's almost barbaric, but that doesn't mean she doesn't enjoy the opportunity to dress up on occasion. Though, what she's buying may clash somewhat with the fact she's still wearing full armor and has a warhammer clasped to her belt. But whatever, she's got four arms to carry it all in, she'll manage. Once someone explains to her what that sign in the window means, anyway. Considering she's a little over eight feet tall, it's not exactly posted at eye level.]

Option 3

[WORD OF CAUTION: Looma here has no idea what a water balloon fight is. She will assume it's some sort of attack, albeit an incredibly weak one, and react as one would expect someone who relishes battle to react. And considering she can lift cars with two hands tied behind her back, you may want to clear up any confusion VERY QUICKLY.]

[She's noticed the water balloons stashed all over the place, but she has yet to piece together what they're for. Or what they are to begin with. Khoros certainly didn't have any similar tradition to fall back on, and her time on Earth had been rather limited, and these strange objects were not encountered. Perhaps someone would be willing to explain...]

Holiday blinks several times upon seeing this person. The red skin and four arms were one thing that she was almost accustomed to. The armor and weapons while looking at jewelry was something different.

Being curious and possibly a little nosy, Holiday looked over to see what this... person was looking at.

Option 3:

[ Vincent literally does not know what hit him - all that he is aware of is that something exploded in a mass of water upon hitting his head, leaving his lovely blond locks hanging like limp seaweed. He's altogether startled and affronted, body wound up tight and face stuck in a grimace beneath a dripping veil of hair.

But it's okay! He's got this. He'll simply... run his fingers through his hair, and delicately wipe away the remaining droplets. Not without looking for the culprit or this misdemeanor in the process, mind. ]

It seems that a prankster is afoot?

[ He's all chuckles and smiles, but there's just that twinge of annoyance at the edge of his lips. ]



Option 4:

[ It was odd indeed for Vincent to refrain from physical touch, but it seemed to him that this new world had presented him with a challenge. Mostly doubtful of its tales of consequence, he had decided to learn of them first-hand. Surprisingly enough, all that they had said was true, and Vincent had allowed the symptoms to progress just enough that he saw it fit to end the cycle.

Perhaps it would make physical touch all the sweeter, now. Oh, wouldn't that be fun.

He's carefully picked out his prey for the evening. Male or female, familiar or not - those things don't matter to him at present, but instead, how interesting that they seem. Approaching, he offers a seemingly modest smile, forced as it may be in his delicate condition. ]

Ah, please forgive me for the sudden intrusion. It seems that fervor has outweighed my manners.

[ To those that know him, the tone may be recognized as mocking, or something for show - and his smirk perhaps more apparent, as he gently caresses their hand in his own. ]

Would you be so kind as to humor a foolish man this evening?

[ This is torture. Not so much the being abducted into a strange world, nor even the withdrawal symptoms. His principal source of misery is - himself. He'd been weeping in the snow, contemplating the awful pointlessness of his own existence when he'd been plucked from the estate of... that family...

Who were they? Rainsworth, that's right. It hardly mattered. He didn't care. One hundred sixteen souls, a nightmare in the Abyss, his left eye lost - and none of it had mattered.. Nothing mattered. Nothing ever would again.

Which is why he hardly registers Vincent's syrupy voice or even his caresses, beyond the weak protest: ]
