Welcome to the Rekindle Test Drive! Trying to see if a character will fit or work in the setting? Need some interaction samples? Well this meme is for you! Make a post, tag around, and most importantly, have fun! Here's the setting page for those who want to learn a little more about the city itself. Then don't forget to go reserve your character in a week when they open. Here's some prompts to help you get started, if you need it: Option 1 [While the days grow longer and warmer and the older, oriental-style of the city would normally make one think that the interiors would not be much in the way of relief from the hot sun, it may surprise the guest to see that the apartments the natives have allocated for them are surprisingly comfortable. In fact, the only modern convenience they may be missing is a television set! At least, outside the media floor on the first floor of Building One - the first of four inter-connected buildings. In fact, each apartment building seems to have at least one different amenity on the first floor. In Building Two they seemed to even spare a library in another that seems to have the basics and some information packets that are otherwise found in the Welcome Center in District 2. There are even a few restaurants and common dining areas in the Building Three that are open until late at night, and meeting areas and a ballroom on the first floor in Building Four, perfect for setting up small parties or big events. With the locals gone save those who work in the restaurants and the one librarian, leaving you to your own devices, what will you do? What mysteries could be left to discover in this place?] Option 2 [With summer coming, the water level in the river is starting to go down, exposing some of the beach. The Riverside Shack is open late, and its restaurant is pulling out all the stops and offering seafood specials (even though a river is a far cry from an ocean). The rental store, meanwhile, is finally bringing out more of its swimming supplies, inner tubes and pool noodles, and a calmer stretch of the river has been roped off with buoys for swimming. They even have lifeguards chairs set up. Clearly this sort of thing used to be an annual event. It's not quite an ocean beach (quite different actually), but there's still plenty of chance to have fun in the water. Or teach someone to swim, perhaps.] Option 3 [If you're more inclined to explore or learn, the City's Learning Center might be more to your tastes. There certainly seems to be a lot going on here - there's laboratories and libraries and workshops, and plenty of communal areas where you can meet and talk with people. The natives seem pretty absorbed with their studies and work, though they're polite in brushing you off, at least. Perhaps you'll have more luck seeing what other Guests such as yourself have discovered?] Option 4 [Whoops. Looks like you haven't taken the cautionary words of the other NPCs to heart, or maybe you just wanted to take your chances. Either way, the withdrawal symptoms have started and you need to find someone to hug quickly before you get even more sick.] Option 5 [If there's something else you wanted to play with, that you didn't see here, then have fun with that. You've just arrived in a strange city, after all. There's got to be plenty to explore out and about, not to mention people to meet.]

[Diarmuid shakes his head, giggling.]

No, no, I said I'm just a boy remember! I can't see the future. Besides, it's father who told me the stories. Maybe he can see the future! He is a god after all!

[He moves closer to the water still wanting to swim, but still cautious even if the boy who is going to teach him will be a hero someday.]

Can't you tell me what I need to do before I jump in? Wouldn't that make more sense?

So it's a magical weapon?

[Diarmuid really doesn't understand, but there are all kinds of magical weapons out there. Why couldn't this gun of Kerry's be one of those?

He pauses, though, when Kerry again says that faeries weren't responsible for bringing them there. His hands come up to his hips, and he gives the other boy a stubborn look.]

If not faeries then what? I know the people said we were brought here to help them, but they said nothing about who did it!

[Cu Chulainn puts down his penknife and leans over to look at the words.]

Are those words? I can't understand them at all.

[He looks down at the cut-up book, and then at his own knife.]

But I can look at all the pictures when they're in my room. Or I can put them all in a book that only has pictures.

Yeah, I do.

[He knows he does (even if not the greatest sense of self-preservation). He'd run away back on the island. He'd been scared and had wanted to save himself. He doesn't want to die. He feels scared now, but he makes himself stay.]

You've got that sickness people get here, don't you?

[Maybe now that he's weaker, Kerry can find out something more about him? Or is that a dumb idea? It's probably a dumb idea, Kerry.]

[And that response will get Pippin an oversized hand ruffling his hair with a laugh.]

[Quite an active and energetic young thing, it reminded him a bit of a certain firey girl when she was about that age.]

No, it's not. It's scientific. It's man-made, and you don't need magecraft to use it.

[Kerry is sure Diarmuid doesn't know a thing about science, but he says this anyway.]

These people kidnapped us, it's obvious. They said they needed us. They don't want us to know how they did it, that's all.

There aren't any fairies around, and this place doesn't have anything to do with fairies, so that makes no sense. Just because fairies are all you know about doesn't mean they did it.

[He doesn't mean to sound rude, he's just telling it like it is.]

[Lavi would have said that towns normally looked that way before the monsters showed their faces, but really, he had no idea where they were.

He nods in agreement with the older woman.]

Good idea. Let's see if we can find a map of the place or somethin'. There's gotta be some kinda brochure around here.

[He let go of Miranda's hand then headed to the front desk of the apartment to see if there was some kind of map for new residents. That was customary, right?

He plucks one off of the service desk and starts looking it over.]

Ya know, Miranda, this place is pretty...different. There are places that I've never heard of here.

[And for a Bookman or one in training, that's rather unheard of]

Yeah, they're words. They're supposed to be part of the books.

But you're being selfish, and cutting up books is against the rules. They don't belong to you. They're public property, and you're stealing.

[He doesn't care that much about books, it's the principle of the thing! Also, he reads the books here, he doesn't want them full of holes because of some silly kid.]

[He pouts. On one hand, he wants the pictures...on the other hand, he doesn't want to be a thief. Finally, he puts his knife away and closes the book.]

Should I...give all the pictures I already have back?

Would you like to battle? [Hilbert gives an easy grin.] Just one on one.

[But he pauses. He knows Cu just liked the pictures and didn't mean any harm.]

Maybe you can keep a few. Since you already ruined the books anyway.

Then I'd suggest you use it.

[His frown deepens, but his expression is different than the kind he wore the last time the last time they spoke. His thoughts are scattered by his illness, and so his anger is unfocused, which probably benefits no one but Kiritsugu.]

[ It’s a nice evening out and after gorging at the Riverside Shack, Fuu heads down to the river bank with the desire to do nothing more than enjoy the slightly cool air and the remainder of the sunset. Sandals in her hand, she dips one toe, testing out the water cautiously. ]

Huh, not too bad.

[ Toes wiggling and a pleased grin on her face, she wades in, ankle deep, kicking up tiny waves. It’s a fun diversion and one that she gets a little too invested in doing and stops paying careful attention to her footing. One slip and SPLOOSH, butt first into the water. ]

OH DAMNIT!! [ Spluttering, she pushes up, now half soaked and scowling. ] Now I’m going to have to walk home like this.

[ The girl whips her head around, looking for anything that looks like a towel in her immediate vicinity. ]

...Oh god. I knew it. This is it. I'm dead. I'm actually motherfucking stone-cold dead. This is the pearly gates, isn't it? God oh man oh man, I should've just gone with my gut about it. There's no way I'd be on a beach with all these people who are way too goddamned happy without it being some kind of post-death Utopian limbo. I'm probably lying out on a mortuary somewhere waiting to get cut open and oh god what if no one's even found me yet? What if I just ended up on a bench or in an alley somewhere like a fat sack of prunes? Do I even get a last meal or do I get to say goodbye to Mimi or the old guy or anybody? Who's gonna take care of my shop and what if people steal all my shit? I'm probably just lying in a ditch somewhere or getting mugged by some douchebags and-

[He hadn't been expecting that sort of thing from her at all. He blinks at her a moment, a little pang of guilt reaching him at her dejected expression. His eyes travel away, but only briefly, before he eyes her with an apologetic look.]

I didn't mean to- I didn't do it because you'd done anything wrong or I wanna push you away. I'm really just not used to sort of thing. ...Sorry about that.
