Welcome to the Rekindle Test Drive! Trying to see if a character will fit or work in the setting? Need some interaction samples? Well this meme is for you! Make a post, tag around, and most importantly, have fun! Here's the setting page for those who want to learn a little more about the city itself. Then don't forget to go reserve your character in a week when they open. Here's some prompts to help you get started, if you need it: Option 1 [While the days grow longer and warmer and the older, oriental-style of the city would normally make one think that the interiors would not be much in the way of relief from the hot sun, it may surprise the guest to see that the apartments the natives have allocated for them are surprisingly comfortable. In fact, the only modern convenience they may be missing is a television set! At least, outside the media floor on the first floor of Building One - the first of four inter-connected buildings. In fact, each apartment building seems to have at least one different amenity on the first floor. In Building Two they seemed to even spare a library in another that seems to have the basics and some information packets that are otherwise found in the Welcome Center in District 2. There are even a few restaurants and common dining areas in the Building Three that are open until late at night, and meeting areas and a ballroom on the first floor in Building Four, perfect for setting up small parties or big events. With the locals gone save those who work in the restaurants and the one librarian, leaving you to your own devices, what will you do? What mysteries could be left to discover in this place?] Option 2 [With summer coming, the water level in the river is starting to go down, exposing some of the beach. The Riverside Shack is open late, and its restaurant is pulling out all the stops and offering seafood specials (even though a river is a far cry from an ocean). The rental store, meanwhile, is finally bringing out more of its swimming supplies, inner tubes and pool noodles, and a calmer stretch of the river has been roped off with buoys for swimming. They even have lifeguards chairs set up. Clearly this sort of thing used to be an annual event. It's not quite an ocean beach (quite different actually), but there's still plenty of chance to have fun in the water. Or teach someone to swim, perhaps.] Option 3 [If you're more inclined to explore or learn, the City's Learning Center might be more to your tastes. There certainly seems to be a lot going on here - there's laboratories and libraries and workshops, and plenty of communal areas where you can meet and talk with people. The natives seem pretty absorbed with their studies and work, though they're polite in brushing you off, at least. Perhaps you'll have more luck seeing what other Guests such as yourself have discovered?] Option 4 [Whoops. Looks like you haven't taken the cautionary words of the other NPCs to heart, or maybe you just wanted to take your chances. Either way, the withdrawal symptoms have started and you need to find someone to hug quickly before you get even more sick.] Option 5 [If there's something else you wanted to play with, that you didn't see here, then have fun with that. You've just arrived in a strange city, after all. There's got to be plenty to explore out and about, not to mention people to meet.]

"If Mana-chan were here now, she would be telling me to ask anyone, stranger or not, since once I knew them they would not be strangers. So I am glad you made things a little easier on me."

Yeah! Like I said, though, I've lived in the US for like, way longer than I lived in France. I've never been to Canada, though! Is it true that everyone up there is like, super polite or is that just like a stereotype?

And you really don't think my hair is weird? Like, no matter what I try I can't make it straight! The last time I tried it like, totally wasn't pretty. Besides, I think your hair is like, totally cool! I mean, it's like one of those totally cool adult styles, you know?!

Oh! [Alice smiled brightly, happy to know she wasn't the only one to get lost.] I'm glad you said that, Mr. Yogi. I don't want you getting lost, of course. But it's nice to know I'm not so strange as to be the only one to get lost. But I suppose others have to get lost lest we wouldn't have a word for it! You And it's such a common sort of word, after all!

"It would. Still, I would prefer being home, where I could fight it myself. If things do not go so smoothly as that-" and, in his experience, they really never do, "-then I am sure I will be needed. As I was saying before."

Useless. There was nothing he could do. Stop focusing on it.

[... Yes, well-- sometimes he needs to be told things a couple times for them to sink in.] Listening and believing are two different things, [he murmurs, but he doesn't really have the energy to argue.

He looks at her hand again, then glances away. Well, she has a point. And she's a healer, so of course she has his health in mind. She's not trying to humiliate him or anything.

It won't hurt.

He reaches out and takes her hand. There is something gentlemanly about the way he holds it, as if he's about to escort her somewhere. Just the thought brings him back to another place, but only briefly, and he pulls himself out of it with a hrrmph. Still holding her hand, though.]

I can confirm the loss of some abilities, at least.

[And his dignity. He may be blushing, but since he's looking away, it's hard to tell.]

Kratos is the kind of person who won't offer his name until it's convenient, so maybe it's better that Richard is trying to carry the conversation. His boots scuff against the pavement, a quiet sign of the effort he's putting into each step.]

"Myself? Oh, I'm not all that interesting, sire. But you know, it's a rather difficult question to answer when someone tells you about themself, because someone is bound to want to hear something specifically but not ask for it by name. So people talk and talk and sorts to try and find something interesting about themselves when might have been easier and faster to just ask the question you wanted answered in the first place.... Oh ah, not that I think you mean to do that," she quickly ammended so as not to offend. "But in general I suppose I mean to say, your majesty. It's just, well... what could you possibly wish to know about me?"

When... When I came too, I was hiding in a cave. The island was burnt to cinders. No-one else there.

[ His breathing is slowly getting deeper, more steady. When she shifts closer he only exhales softly, tightening his grip on her hand just slightly. ]

[The knowledge that he was resting well was enough to keep her asleep. Even the grip on her hand didn't make her stir. It only made her subconsciously seek more comfort, shifting closer yet.]

[Kerry wishes Diarmuid wouldn't ask. He doesn't want to talk about it.]

I don't have a father.

[There. He's said it. Flatly and simply. It's the truth. His father's gone, and he should be gone.]

I'm mad at them because they kidnapped innocent people.

[ Even before the bombings, Posy got nightmares once in a while, and she'd taken to crawling into bed with him for comfort. So when Madge drew closer to him, it came as second nature for Gale to put an arm around her and hug her close against his chest. ]

[Drawn close, Madge made herself comfortable against him and slept peacefully like that the rest of the night. Her arms wrapped around him to keep him close.]

[ This was a good position. He just snuggled his face into her neck, and he's good for the night. Day. Whatever it is. ]

[Oh, yes. A very good position. It isn't for another several hours before she stirs, even a little. And when she starts to come to, it takes her several minutes to figure out what exactly was going on... Of course, when she did, she froze.]

[ Gale was sleeping soundly until he felt something change. He gave a soft moan as he started to wake up and when he realized that he was holding someone, he immediately let go and rolled over onto his back to rub the sleepiness out of his eyes. ]

[Madge let go easily, rolling onto her back just as quickly, maybe even shifting to lay on her side and face away from him. For all the awkwardness that was sure to follow, she still felt infinitely better.]

[ Everything was slowly coming back to him as he started to wake up. He was in some city. He'd gotten sick and needed to lie down, and with some effort, he'd finally found a room with a bed to rest on. Except he'd needed to share it... but not with Posy. She wasn't blonde.

Madge Undersee was blonde.

Gale sat up so fast, he saw stars. Still not at 100%, but better. Either the sleep had done the trick, or the people hadn't been lying. The latter was much more unsettling. He looked down at her for confirmation, and sure enough - it was the Mayor's daughter lying there, apparently still sleeping. He let out an unsteady breath and leaned his head back against the headboard.

He'd just slept with the Mayor's daughter. Thom would have a fit if he knew, never let him live it down.

Shooting a glance at the door, Gale calculated his chances. She wasn't awake yet. Maybe he could sneak out before she woke up and save them both the embarrassment. ]

They're mean? What'd they do?

[He glances back toward the boat rental place. He has no real reason to believe they're not mean, but he wonders why they wouldn't like her. She's a customer.]

Why don't we go back and get your money back? Or get them to help?

[They can sort it out somehow!]

[Infinitely better still didn't mean 100%. Madge's eyes were wide open as she stared at the opposite wall. He sat up, quickly, but didn't say anything. Probably thought she was still asleep. She could play it off like that maybe... They'd never have to mention it again...

She bit down on her lip and before she could think any better of it, she rolled back over to look at him.]

..... How do you feel?

[ensared]

[ He started, ripping his gray eyes from the door to look back at her. Sleeping. Ha. Of course not. ]

Better.

[ Admitting that he wasn't all the way there yet just wasn't going to happen. That wasn't how Gale functioned, even back at home, among his own family. Denying his condition was a habit that got hard to break, after living with it for so long. He hesitated before asking: ]

How about you?

[ No, this wasn't awkward at all. ]

"Of course it's a rule," Soul arched an eyebrow while giving Kid a look. He might be pale, but even Soul liked to get outside, whether for a game of basketball or just hanging out.

"We're at the beach and you're going to sit here and read? You're seriously as bad as Maka."

[Madge couldn't help but smile and nod slowly.]

I'm glad to hear it.

[And for what it was worth? She meant that sincerely. When he returned the question, she shrugged and glanced away.]

I'm feeling better too. Thanks.
