Welcome to the Rekindle Test Drive! Trying to see if a character will fit or work in the setting? Need some interaction samples? Well this meme is for you! Make a post, tag around, and most importantly, have fun! Here's the setting page for those who want to learn a little more about the city itself. Then don't forget to go reserve your character in a week when they open. Here's some prompts to help you get started, if you need it: Option 1 [While the days grow longer and warmer and the older, oriental-style of the city would normally make one think that the interiors would not be much in the way of relief from the hot sun, it may surprise the guest to see that the apartments the natives have allocated for them are surprisingly comfortable. In fact, the only modern convenience they may be missing is a television set! At least, outside the media floor on the first floor of Building One - the first of four inter-connected buildings. In fact, each apartment building seems to have at least one different amenity on the first floor. In Building Two they seemed to even spare a library in another that seems to have the basics and some information packets that are otherwise found in the Welcome Center in District 2. There are even a few restaurants and common dining areas in the Building Three that are open until late at night, and meeting areas and a ballroom on the first floor in Building Four, perfect for setting up small parties or big events. With the locals gone save those who work in the restaurants and the one librarian, leaving you to your own devices, what will you do? What mysteries could be left to discover in this place?] Option 2 [With summer coming, the water level in the river is starting to go down, exposing some of the beach. The Riverside Shack is open late, and its restaurant is pulling out all the stops and offering seafood specials (even though a river is a far cry from an ocean). The rental store, meanwhile, is finally bringing out more of its swimming supplies, inner tubes and pool noodles, and a calmer stretch of the river has been roped off with buoys for swimming. They even have lifeguards chairs set up. Clearly this sort of thing used to be an annual event. It's not quite an ocean beach (quite different actually), but there's still plenty of chance to have fun in the water. Or teach someone to swim, perhaps.] Option 3 [If you're more inclined to explore or learn, the City's Learning Center might be more to your tastes. There certainly seems to be a lot going on here - there's laboratories and libraries and workshops, and plenty of communal areas where you can meet and talk with people. The natives seem pretty absorbed with their studies and work, though they're polite in brushing you off, at least. Perhaps you'll have more luck seeing what other Guests such as yourself have discovered?] Option 4 [Whoops. Looks like you haven't taken the cautionary words of the other NPCs to heart, or maybe you just wanted to take your chances. Either way, the withdrawal symptoms have started and you need to find someone to hug quickly before you get even more sick.] Option 5 [If there's something else you wanted to play with, that you didn't see here, then have fun with that. You've just arrived in a strange city, after all. There's got to be plenty to explore out and about, not to mention people to meet.]

Right. Well, it's important to understand what's going on but I rather doubt we'll find all the answers here. [He still doesn't move to help her but he does look distinctly amused now.]

[He doesn't say what happened to them.]

I work with Natalia. She's training me.

[Natalia gives him orders, and he follows them. She doesn't look after him like that. He respects her, but it's not the same.]

[Billy isn't feeling too well, he's forced to reluctantly admit. It might be terrible sun exposure, it might be the withdrawal symptoms he's heard about and dreads. But whatever it is, he's pressing on with his little scanner device.

There's a certain stone Billy needs for the project that's been taking up his attention and this riverbank should have it, according to his study of the maps. Somewhere under the sand...

Aha! The scanner's beeping is loudest directly over another boy lying on the sand. If he wants to continue the project, he'll have to ask him to move. But how, when his ears are plugged?

He lifts an arm sluggishly and waves a few feet from the boy's face, trying to get his attention.]

[Madge was certain she died. Nothing else could hurt that much, then feel so numb. Why did she ask him to stay again? She sighed.]

No... we don't. But maybe it's a second chance, except without most of the important people.

[Most. She doesn't even know why she said it like that. But she can't take it back now, so she pulls her knees to her chest and watches him.]

I'm sorry you have them too.

[Should she mention that she didn't have any when they were asleep? No. That would make it weird... More weird than it already was. Wouldn't it?]

[He shook his head in reply, a small chuckle escaping his lips.]

I'm positive. It wouldn't be fair to let you go on your own and I did offer.

[Being a gentleman. Or it could be swag, who knows.]

[his serenity is interrupted by someone above him, trying to get his attention. He'd be annoyed if the person's appearance didn't strike him the way it did - a foreign boy, older than him... and, um, muscular. Shinji scrambles to sit up and quickly removes his earbuds.]

U-Uh... yes?

I know. It's like if you spin around. But you don't get like the way you would if you did that.

[He looks over at the open water.]

Wanna swim out a little more? I'll race you!

[She peers at the tree and nods.]

I see. What if the breeze is from the West?

[ Wry, but with a brighter sort of smile. ]

So how long have you been here?

[ In this very strange and maybe interesting place. ]

He smiles a little at hearing her words. Her friend must be an amazing person in order to give her that advice. Most would think it stupid and naive, but in this place it's needed.

"I'm Narukami Yu. It's nice to meet you..."

[Billy waved, his other hand still gripping his scanner. He looked nervous but excited.]

I'm sorry to be bothering you, but my scanner seems to be indicating there's a rare mineral directly underneath you. I was wondering if I could dig here, if it's not too much trouble for you?

[ensared]

I'm sorry I didn't save you.

[ As soon as the words leave his mouth, his eyes widen in surprise. He'd been thinking it, just on the off-chance that she was right and really had died, but he'd never meant to say it. That made it real. That made her a victim of his failure as a leader, and Gale wasn't sure how to deal with that.

He should really just leave, he decided, turning his back to her in search of an escape. The door was right over there. A few steps, and he'd be gone. ]

[It amuses him and it is a completely Fuu like reaction, he expects it really.

She should know and that is what the look he says gives her.]

People are too damn touchy feely here and not in the good way.

Option 2

[ The closest thing they came to a beach in District 12 was a lake in the woods the law says he should never have known about. Here, it was different. Strange, even, how they relished it, and not just because this was a river. The lake back home had been a method of survival, never for recreation. That the people here seemed to be having some kind of party perplexed Gale - reminded him of the Capitol - so he didn't partake in the festivities. He merely perched himself on the sand and studied everyone around him like a hawk. They were worried about nothing except having their fun and moving on.

It made him wonder if there were a place like District 12 hidden beyond the borders they were allowed to roam. If this was the Capitol, where they had more than they'd ever need, where were the places that suffered to provide it all? ]

Option 5

[ New city, new prison.

At least, that's what it felt like, and just when they'd escaped District 12 once and for all... even if that hadn't gone as originally planned. No, just when they'd all gotten out, he found himself here, in a new place entirely, and no way to get home. The natives in Saeng Seong seemed nice enough on the surface, but it was all just an act. Their refusal to send him home until he helped them proved it. They were the new Capitol, and he was their new tribute.

It pissed him off. And when Gale got pissed off, he needed time alone, in the woods, where he could scream treason as loud as he wanted and not have to worry. But since he didn't have that here, he'd have to settle for exploring this city. Maybe he'd stumble upon something suitable enough for an escape. ]

[Madge's eyes widened at the apology. Of all the things for him to say, she hadn't expected that. Tears sprung to the corners of her eyes and she blinked them back. No, she wouldn't let him see her cry.]

It's not your fault.

[When she spoke, her voice was strained. She slid out of bed and blinked a little. Oh, she was much more dizzy when she was standing. Still, it was an improvement.]

Don't blame yourself, please.

[ensared]

[ His hand came up and ran through his hair, stopping at the base of his neck as he took a few nervous, unsteady steps in the general direction of the door. So many thoughts were racing through his head it made him dizzy... or maybe he was still worse off than he realized.

Deep breath, Hawthorne. Why had he said that, again? Any more words were hard to get out, and there was that panicked voice in his head demanding that he leave immediately and deny that this had ever happened. ]

I... It is my fault. If I'd realized it earlier, if I'd moved faster, we could've... we could've gotten more out, maybe everyone. Even Mellark's family.

[ I should have known it was coming. I should have been prepared.

He hadn't had time to worry about it before, when he'd been trying to keep 800 people alive. But now that Gale had the time, now that he was faced with one of those he'd failed... he couldn't help it. He of all people should have known better.

That little voice of panic was growing. If there was one person Gale didn't want to show this insecurity in front of, it was Madge Undersee, and escaping while he could was starting to sound better and better. ]

[ That was enough to pull him from that slight doze he'd managed in those few moments, Elliot opening one eye slowly and grumbling slightly.

A girl, a little one at that, and such an inconvenience that she tripped over his legs. If he weren't so tired he might get up and give her a piece of his mind, but he was and as a result all she got was a half-hearted complaint. ]

...should watch where you're going, little girl.

[That is... a weird request. Someone like this is just looking for rocks? It's so minor and in such contrast to his immediate impression that it fills him with relief.

He crawls off of his towel and pulls it up and away from the sand so he can dig however he likes. Although Shinji looks up at him at bit expectantly, not realizing how clearly he intends to watch him do this.]

[Billy smiles with relief, though his grin's a little less bright than usual. Not that Shinji knows that, of course.]

Thanks. I promise I won't be long, but I really want to see this rock.

[He kneels in front of the rock site and starts digging with his hands. It's not too far down, he doesn't need a shovel.]

You're just here to tan?

[Billy doesn't know if small talk is welcome, but it's worth a try.]

You couldn't have known, Gale.

[With his few steps towards the door, she mimicked it. Why? She wasn't sure. What would it even accomplish?]

You saved as many as you could...

[Which she didn't know until now, but he was pretty shaken up over it. She took a deep breath and took a few steps closer yet.]

[ensared]

[ I should have saved more, was on the tip of his tongue, but he bit it back. What good did the guilt do? It would just make him more frustrated that he couldn't go back, that he couldn't do anything else to help them now. They were on their own now, and they'd barely survived with him there.

He took another shaky breath and covered his face with his hand. This was too much all at once - the city, the touching, the trouble back home, Madge... It felt like Gale was being bombarded from all sides, and he didn't know how to react. ]

[Shinji's face turns a little pink again. If he didn't deserve to be in this place... If he didn't deserve to enjoy something as stupid as bananas... Then he definitely didn't deserve Nagisa-kun. Not him, not his voice, not his patience or his friendship?

(But you do think you deserve him, don't you?)

He nods slowly and squeezes Kaworu's hand back.]

... Yeah. Okay... yeah, let's do that. After we cook.
