Welcome to the Rekindle Test Drive! Trying to see if a character will fit or work in the setting? Need some interaction samples? Well this meme is for you! Make a post, tag around, and most importantly, have fun! Here's the setting page for those who want to learn a little more about the city itself. Then don't forget to go reserve your character in a week when they open. Here's some prompts to help you get started, if you need it: Option 1 [While the days grow longer and warmer and the older, oriental-style of the city would normally make one think that the interiors would not be much in the way of relief from the hot sun, it may surprise the guest to see that the apartments the natives have allocated for them are surprisingly comfortable. In fact, the only modern convenience they may be missing is a television set! At least, outside the media floor on the first floor of Building One - the first of four inter-connected buildings. In fact, each apartment building seems to have at least one different amenity on the first floor. In Building Two they seemed to even spare a library in another that seems to have the basics and some information packets that are otherwise found in the Welcome Center in District 2. There are even a few restaurants and common dining areas in the Building Three that are open until late at night, and meeting areas and a ballroom on the first floor in Building Four, perfect for setting up small parties or big events. With the locals gone save those who work in the restaurants and the one librarian, leaving you to your own devices, what will you do? What mysteries could be left to discover in this place?] Option 2 [With summer coming, the water level in the river is starting to go down, exposing some of the beach. The Riverside Shack is open late, and its restaurant is pulling out all the stops and offering seafood specials (even though a river is a far cry from an ocean). The rental store, meanwhile, is finally bringing out more of its swimming supplies, inner tubes and pool noodles, and a calmer stretch of the river has been roped off with buoys for swimming. They even have lifeguards chairs set up. Clearly this sort of thing used to be an annual event. It's not quite an ocean beach (quite different actually), but there's still plenty of chance to have fun in the water. Or teach someone to swim, perhaps.] Option 3 [If you're more inclined to explore or learn, the City's Learning Center might be more to your tastes. There certainly seems to be a lot going on here - there's laboratories and libraries and workshops, and plenty of communal areas where you can meet and talk with people. The natives seem pretty absorbed with their studies and work, though they're polite in brushing you off, at least. Perhaps you'll have more luck seeing what other Guests such as yourself have discovered?] Option 4 [Whoops. Looks like you haven't taken the cautionary words of the other NPCs to heart, or maybe you just wanted to take your chances. Either way, the withdrawal symptoms have started and you need to find someone to hug quickly before you get even more sick.] Option 5 [If there's something else you wanted to play with, that you didn't see here, then have fun with that. You've just arrived in a strange city, after all. There's got to be plenty to explore out and about, not to mention people to meet.]

There was! _{[The look on his face is clearly pained. He wouldn't make Kaworu up.]} ...When you couldn't pilot Unit-02 anymore he was sent to do so.

When I couldn't pilot Unit-02 [ - because you damn well nearly killed me - ] that was Mari's job. The Fourth Child took my place!

[it genuinely takes her a moment to remember who that even is; she practically sputters when she finally remembers the name]

-The jock?! The Jock wasn't even a Child!

Mari's Mari! Mari Makinami! Pinkie, Four-Eyes, the Favourite! The UN girl; managed to land on you with a parachute to say hi and then never fucking shut up about it for fourteen years!

That...what? _{[Asuka isn't the only one thrown for a loop. Shinji wracks his brain to try and remember who exactly such a girl could be but...]}

I've never met her before. And...And he was a Child! The Eva he was in went crazy and...and...

_{[His hands ball into fists as he stands, turning his gaze back to the water's surface.]}

My father told me to kill him. To destroy the Eva...but I didn't want to! I wouldn't! So he took over and nearly killed him himself! Don't tell me that he wasn't a Child - not when he nearly died because of me!

I was the one who took the Unit-03 assignment. I was the one inside the plug when the Angel took over. The Dummy Plug system, wasn't it? Because you refused to fight.

_{[He nods. It was the Dummy Plug system, because he refused to fight, but it wasn't her in there.]}

...I don't know. None of this makes sense! But it wasn't you in there, it was him.

[Simplistic in his Angelic nature, Kaworu is naïve: he's such a big believer in forgiveness. It seems the natural thing for others to feel the same.]

Not at all. I'm here the same way as you are. A lot of people are, it seems.

[...this isn't the Shinji Ikari she knows. It doesn't make sense for him to be standing here, but it doesn't make for him to be anything else.

Well shit.

She relaxes a little, no longer glaring you in the eye. This isn't Shinji Ikari. She looks away, suddenly tired; all that pent up anger for nothing.]

It's how I lost my eye. That's definitely what happened to me. You snapped, nearly trashed Headquaters and killed Gendo - nice try, by the way - got thrown out... and then the Tenth Angel came.

I'm out. You're in exile. Unit 00 still hasn't completed repairs. The First actually goes after it with an N2 missile. [she snorts, half in admiration. With the benefit of hindsight, she can recognise Rei - or that Rei - had a lot of fight in her. A lot of life. A pity the same couldn't be said of the barely living clones NERV spewed out after.] Mari takes Unit 02 and even activates the Beast Mode. Not enough.

The attack fails. Unit 02 down. Unit 00 down. The Tenth eats the Prototype; absorbs it. Starts emitting friendly signals; the defences think it's Rei, so they don't trigger. Damn thing floats down into Central Dogma with ease.

Which is when you happened. You got back in Unit 01, went straight on the attack. But that failed too. Ran out of power. You were always bad with that. Unit 01 shuts down, with the Tenth-Hybrid hammering on the core.

And then you snap.

Eva activates fully, as it was always meant to. Unit One isn't a fighting machine, it's a trigger for the Third Impact. You went berserk, and destroyed the Tenth Angel, using the full power of Eva to pull Rei right out of the Core. [she snorts] Or you thought you did.

Rei Ayanami is never saved, Near Third Impact happens and once again decimates the human race, someone intervenes in the Mark 08 to stop it going any further, but the damage is done. You put the gun to humanity's head, you pulled the trigger. All to save Ayanami.

It never worked. Nerv recovers Unit 01. Secret's out now; disbanded by the UN. Ex-NERV staff reform into the special organisation 'WILLE', dedicated to preventing Fourth Impact, destroying the remaining Angels and destroying what's left of NERV. Your father escapes. Only remaining pilot is Mari and one ain't enough, so they wake up me. Takes several months before they've even convinced I'm human. World goes to shit.

[she sits, dropping down with a little 'flump' onto the sand, the gentle waves pouring over her feet.]

An Evangelion war. That's what people were always afraid of, you know? We practically ended everything. NERV was even producing artificial Angels themselves by the end of it. Your father really is a genius, apart from when he isn't insane. They fired you up into orbit so no-one could get to Unit 01; we pulled you down 14 years later. Needed the Unit. Don't ask.

You didn't know a thing. What were we to say? An Ayanami clone shows up and 'rescues' you from us, and you run right along thinking it's the same one. You brat. Like one person's worth ending the world. Like one's desires are worth that much.

'Bout a week later, you're at it again. Rejoined your father, God knows why, piloting again, God alone knows why...

Fourth Impact. You did it again. Babbling about changing the world. We manage to stop you but you've practically ended the world twice. Not even your father can boast that one. Congratulations.

She can't believe him. Whilst she doubts this is his work - it doesn't exactly fit NERV's style - she just can't trust a word he says. Everything that comes out of his mouth is worthless. She turns her back.]

Don't bother me. I won't have anything to do with you.

I don't think that's wise, Second. For Shinji-kun's sake, we should spend some time questioning each other.

[For both Shinjis. Kaworu has already encountered that problem, and finds Asuka's presence here precarious because of that.]

Our goals weren't very different. We just sought them through different means. Or is it that I'm scaring you?

[there are a number of things Sasuke could say to this, not the least of which is laughing in his face at the threat. There is little frightening about the man, even with the sword he carries. It's laughable, with the skills Sasuke possesses.

Nevertheless, he doesn't see a reason to waste his time.

He cocks up an eyebrow, somehow managing to convey both amusement and sarcasm without a change in his expression before he steps to the side, making the path clear for the blond. Be my guest he doesn't say.]

[That draws her back. That makes her look you in the eye. Scared? What is there to be scared of, least of all here? She's fought angels, armies, Evas. Why would one lone pilot be any reason to fear?

And as for them being alike...]

No. We aren't alike in any way. I have no interest in a Fourth Impact. I will not serve NERV. 'Shinji-kun's sake? Now he's here, he's already run away. Do whatever you like.

[As he thinks about what Kerry has said, Diarmuid starts to absentmindedly rock back and forth on his heels. Something bad must have happened to Kerry recently and that makes Diarmuid sad since he doesn't like it when bad things happen to good people. It's not right! That is why he is looking forward to becoming a knight so much. Then he will be able to make sure things like that don't happen anymore.]

Maybe once you get to know her better.

[He nods with as much finality as such a small boy can and then changes the topic.]

Okay, what do you want to show me first? There are so many places I haven't been yet!

[Diarmuid splashes around a little and then nods at the other boy.]

I will try to race with you, but I probably won't win. After all, I just learned how. But I will try! Just tell me when to go!

[To his credit, Kaworu winces.]

I had anticipated a lot, but Gendo anticipated more, and I lost my grasp on the situation. [If he ever had it at all.] My hope was victory for the Lilin. That's still my hope. At the end, at the very end, he won't fail you. Shinji-kun will make the right choice.

I hope that you find peace during your stay here.

[This is... unfortunate. Asuka embodies the heart of the Lilin's anger, and Kaworu isn't experienced enough to temper it. He toes at the riverbank, turns to the left, and runs a hand through his hair.]

It may take a while, [he says,] but even you'll have that chance. You should take it, when it comes to you.

The Angels and the Eva aren't here. We're already at peace. The only right choice for him is not to pilot. Let him rot here.

Tried to outplay Gendo Ikari, huh? What even happened?

"Everyone calls me Pippin, though, so you can go ahead and do it, too." He always thought Peregrine was a little lofty-sounding for him, anyway. He was definitely a Pippin.
