Welcome to the Rekindle Test Drive! Trying to see if a character will fit or work in the setting? Need some interaction samples? Well this meme is for you! Make a post, tag around, and most importantly, have fun! Here's the setting page for those who want to learn a little more about the city itself. Then don't forget to go reserve your character in a week when they open. Here's some prompts to help you get started, if you need it: Option 1 [While the days grow longer and warmer and the older, oriental-style of the city would normally make one think that the interiors would not be much in the way of relief from the hot sun, it may surprise the guest to see that the apartments the natives have allocated for them are surprisingly comfortable. In fact, the only modern convenience they may be missing is a television set! At least, outside the media floor on the first floor of Building One - the first of four inter-connected buildings. In fact, each apartment building seems to have at least one different amenity on the first floor. In Building Two they seemed to even spare a library in another that seems to have the basics and some information packets that are otherwise found in the Welcome Center in District 2. There are even a few restaurants and common dining areas in the Building Three that are open until late at night, and meeting areas and a ballroom on the first floor in Building Four, perfect for setting up small parties or big events. With the locals gone save those who work in the restaurants and the one librarian, leaving you to your own devices, what will you do? What mysteries could be left to discover in this place?] Option 2 [With summer coming, the water level in the river is starting to go down, exposing some of the beach. The Riverside Shack is open late, and its restaurant is pulling out all the stops and offering seafood specials (even though a river is a far cry from an ocean). The rental store, meanwhile, is finally bringing out more of its swimming supplies, inner tubes and pool noodles, and a calmer stretch of the river has been roped off with buoys for swimming. They even have lifeguards chairs set up. Clearly this sort of thing used to be an annual event. It's not quite an ocean beach (quite different actually), but there's still plenty of chance to have fun in the water. Or teach someone to swim, perhaps.] Option 3 [If you're more inclined to explore or learn, the City's Learning Center might be more to your tastes. There certainly seems to be a lot going on here - there's laboratories and libraries and workshops, and plenty of communal areas where you can meet and talk with people. The natives seem pretty absorbed with their studies and work, though they're polite in brushing you off, at least. Perhaps you'll have more luck seeing what other Guests such as yourself have discovered?] Option 4 [Whoops. Looks like you haven't taken the cautionary words of the other NPCs to heart, or maybe you just wanted to take your chances. Either way, the withdrawal symptoms have started and you need to find someone to hug quickly before you get even more sick.] Option 5 [If there's something else you wanted to play with, that you didn't see here, then have fun with that. You've just arrived in a strange city, after all. There's got to be plenty to explore out and about, not to mention people to meet.]

[Something's not right. At least he doesn't sound ready to bite Roxas's head off again. Roxas is still on the defense, hands still held open at his sides. Could he even summon his keyblade here? He hasn't tried. At least Riku doesn't sound as hostile as before. Unsure, he answers:]

You and DiZ brought me back into Sora. I've been in him for a while now. Why're you wearing that thing over your eyes again?

[When Diarmuid sees his friend come back with the whole sapling, he can't help it. He knows it's impolite, but he starts laughing. In fact, he has to wrap his arms around his waist to keep himself stranding.]

I think that one is a little too big! Well, it would work for a spear I suppose, but I haven't gotten to start learning that weapon yet. Just swords!

[He points at the sand in front of them.]

Here, set it down here. I am sure we can find some branches that will work for swords. Do you even know what size you should have for a sword?

[s'up fellow redhead with missing body parts, Asuka is nudging you with a foot.]

Geez, kid, you lie around down there someone'll stand on you.

[He drops the sapling on the sand.]

Aren't weapons better the bigger they are?

[smallspot]

[Diarmuid shakes his head and reaches out to ruffle the other boy's hair. He's only marginally successful because of how wet it is.]

Not always. Some weapons are better big, but we are just learning! Father says that we need well balanced weapons of our size so we learn the basics right. Without good basics, we will never master the weapon!

[beforetights]

[He makes a face.]

Can't we skip the basics? Teach me some tricks.

[smallspot]

[Diarmuid looks a little sad for a moment and then shakes his head.]

I can't. I don't know any tricks yet. I told you, I just started learning. Besides, basics are important! You can't do good tricks without them.

[His expression suddenly brightens as a thought crosses his mind.]

Quick! Lets go through the basics and then maybe together we can figure out how to do some tricks! I am sure you have watched people fight before.

[beforetights]

[He giggles.]

Yes, I've seen them.

[With some effort, he snaps the sapling in half over his knee.]

Show me, show me!

[gakishinji]

[Finally, he looks at her. Shinji doesn't really take what she's saying seriously (she's left out the awful details unknown to her) but the confident way she's saying it makes him pause. Really, what is he supposed to even say to that? Assuming it's not a lie in the first place? Are people mad at him for something he hasn't even done yet, then?]

...if I piloted for father, then he must have taken it off for me. I wouldn't have got in if I was still wearing it. I'm not dumb.

[he attempts to walk around her, still not interested in this conversation at all. Third Impact, Fourth Impact, whatever... next they'll be blaming him for Tenth Impact, or something else he didn't remember or try to do...]

[she stops him with a hand to his shoulder. Shinji wants to wander off and moan he can, but she wants to make sure he understands this.]

If you were smart, you wouldn't be piloting for anyone.

The other you is from some other place. I'm probably a week or two ahead of you. You see where I'm going with this?

Option 2

[drivenblades]

[The first sign of weirdness is a thin black thing poking out of the water. The next is a teal hood, then a sword hilt and a disemboweled corpse that slogs out of the water with a six-foot shark in tow.

Draven's taken note of Carly, he's just...busy dragging his catch to a nearby table and solar grill. The shark's sporadic wriggle is not anything Draven is doing.]

[gakishinji]

[Billy's responses are slowly setting him at ease. He's not a bad guy.]

Yeah... it's so weird, to make us do that. [something he said resonates.] It... It scares you, though?

[gakishinji]

[glares.]

No.

[oncearanger]

[Billy nods, looking up briefly from his rock-sifting.]

I'm sure you're all perfectly nice people, but...we don't have exact parameters. I'm trying to find out what I need through trial and error, but a vague command to touch people every day doesn't sit well with me.

It's...awkward and forced, isn't it? And who knows what kind of effect that will have on our relationships.

[agelostdoll]

Ach, scheiß drauf. I don't even know why I bothered trying.

[what's the point wasting words on a child that refuses to listen.

Just like that, you're no longer worth the effort. Asuka leaves.]

[Diarmuid giggles at the other boy's excitement.]

Well, this is still a little big for me but it will do.

[He strips some of the small leaves and twigs off his.]

Clean it up a little like I just did and then start by holding it like this.

[Carefully, he places his hands on the 'hilt' of the 'sword' and waits for the other boy to do as he has.]

[He strips his section of the sapling clean and then taps his foot on the ground impatiently.]


Okay I cleaned it. What now?

[fixated]

Then you must have heard one that could perfectly mimic the sound of leaves rustling through the leaves.

[ he sighed and stared upwards, worrying at his lip a little ]

'm still not good enough for that just yet though.

[fixated]

[ he perks up immediately ]

And orange tea?

[ he's practically panting like a dog in anticipation. You have said the magic words, oh wise and wonderful Vincent! Just lead the way /o/ ]

[fixated]

[ or a wise woman once said he looked cute when he was in pain ♥ ]

Mmmm... [ he turned his head towards her, inhaling her scent, instinct taking over from years of careful study. Truthfully, her tender care was already making him feel a little better. ]

And what would you need to convince you? [ anything she wanted, he'd offer. He never did abide by scruples. ]

[ god, Jack, that is not how you pair flavors, Jack. Vincent doesn't wince at this terrible plebeian display, because he was well-rai --

[ Jack blinked and then smiled sheepishly ]

Ah, you may have caught me. You know I can't hardly resist when I see one. Perhaps if you stay, you can see to my health.

[ and oh, wouldn't that be fun? ]

Surely you won't say that you aren't old enough to look after yourself. After all this time!

[ Jack laughed and then leaned an arm around Vincent's shoulder (or tried to) ]

You are sooooooooo not the cute kid I remember. You used to call me Master.

[ he isn't expecting it -- or maybe that's a lie, too, in the corners of his mind, and he was, and the only grace to save here is the pretense otherwise. an arm slides loosely around jack's waist in turn, and vincent turns under his hold to smile. ]

That was my mistake! I thought you were, you see.
