Test Drive - May Edition
![]() Belated May Test Drive! Trying to see if a character will fit or work in the setting? Need some interaction samples? Well this meme is for you! Make a post, tag around, and most importantly, have fun! Here's the setting page for those who want to learn a little more about the city itself. |
Here's some prompts to help you get started, if you need it: |
Option 1 |
[Animals, animals everywhere! All over the different parts of the city…And perhaps paying you a visit as well! In a strange manner, as you might find yourself looking over Saeng Seong in a different, more fuzzy perspective.] |
Option 2 |
[Petals keep falling on your head; or at least they have a persistent habit of falling from trees that are in full bloom. And as a consequence they form a nice array of color floating on the wind…Or perhaps getting in one’s face and blocking vision. Or in the worst case, causing a sneezing fit from the excess pollen. Still, at least there’s some flowers to help liven up the air?] |
Option 3 |
[Whoops. Looks like you haven't taken the cautionary words of the other NPCs to heart, or maybe you just wanted to take your chances. Either way, the withdrawal symptoms have started and you need to find someone to hug quickly before you get even more sick.] |
Option 4 |
[If there's something else you wanted to play with, that you didn't see here, then have fun with that. You've just arrived in a strange city, after all. There's got to be plenty to explore out and about, not to mention people to meet.] |

But for that reason, it's why he doesn't let go of the hand after the handshake (though he will if the man takes his hand back). ]
I've been here for about a month or two. It's a weird place from where I come from, but the rule about contact is pretty serious.
[ A little bit, the man reminds Red of himself when he first arrived -- out of it. And while he might've noticed the glint of the hand, Red's never really seen a person with a metal hand. Admittedly, for the glimpse of it he saw (and it was barely seeing), he figures only that it's a part of the design of the glove
And for the look at Pikachu, he decides to wait to explain him. ]
If you haven't been getting any, we can take a seat. We-- me and Pikachu [ He slightly nods to head to the pokémon ] haven't got anywhere to be right now.

He doesn't withdraw his hand, deciding that he might as well take the kid up on the offer. Though he isn't accustomed to touching others, he doesn't have any qualms against it, either. He just doesn't like to be told what to do by people who've placed themselves above him. Red is not one of those; he's clearly just one of the people who've been brought here against their will, like him.
He nods as he finally pulls his hand away, glancing at both the boy and his Pikachu.]
Alright.

Over here.
[ He'd already spotted it before, leading to the idea of them sitting in the first place - it's less awkward than just standing around and holding hands, too. He walks to it, expecting the man to follow him. And should he, Red will sit down first, waiting until the man has sat down before holding a hand up. ]
Is holding hands fine with you?
no subject
He sits on the boy's right, not very keen to use his mechanical arm at the moment--it's been difficult to use since he arrived, and hasn't gotten much better. He wouldn't want to cause any more damage to the kid with it by accident.]
Yeah. [He takes Red's hand without further thought, leaning back against the bench and taking a breath. He remains silent for a few more moments before speaking again, for once initiating conversation on his own. He's trying to practice.]
What have you been doing, to pass the time? [He isn't really sure what to do with himself. No missions, no records of himself to seek out, and he's... avoiding the one connection he has here for now. He doesn't want to tackle that mess just yet.]
no subject
I train my pokémon - this guy here. [ Pii! goes Pikachu. ] I'm a pokémon trainer in my world, and Pikachu's a pokémon. I have others with me too, but Pikachu's easier to move around with me.
[ What else... ] I have a job too, and... that's all, really. [ It sounds so lacklustre put like that. ] It doesn't sound like much, but training pokémon is what I do. There isn't a lot I do that doesn't involve them.
[ And thus, he is the worst person to ask for hobby suggestions. ]
no subject
His curiosity is piqued, however, by the idea of training things like the Pikachu. What would you train something like that for, anyway?]
Are they different from other animals?
[There doesn't seem to be anything particularly remarkable about the rodent in the kid's lap, other than the bright coloring. Though it apparently is aware of when it's being spoken about, if its response to Red is any indication...]
no subject
Maybe not in appearance... we have pokémon that look like them, but the variations here are more similar to each other than you'd find back home.
[ Actually. ] Would you be interested to see some? I have a machine with a catalogue on them. You'll be able to see the difference easier.
[ And it's better than just sitting there idle while holding hands. ]
no subject
Sure. [He wonders how many there are on the thing Red has offered to show him, but he doesn't intend to look that closely even if there are a lot. Still, it's probably better if he hangs around longer anyway, considering he needs the contact.]
no subject
I'll need my hand for a second. [ They're sitting side by side anyway. Though ] Would you be okay if Pikachu sits on your lap? Contact with him should work too.
[ He looks at Pikachu to catch his eye, who looks back up. Sharing a moment, Pikachu looks to the man. Well, he's okay with it. Is the man? ]
He could sit on your shoulder too. If you'd prefer that.
no subject
mysteriously appearingbag more easily. Plus, he's offering an alternative to help, with his... pokémon, Red said it was. He's not opposed to letting it sit wherever it wants.]My lap is fine.
no subject
Don't you make fun of my magical bag!!Pikachu can understand that fine enough without Red giving him the go ahead, and so he hops over from his lap over to the stranger's, Red replacing him for his yellow bag. While Red fiddling around, Pikachu plops his butt down and looks up at the man, giving him a smile that turns into an open-mouthed one instantly. Pikaaa. Sure you look like crap mister, but Pikachu's seen a lot of sights. Let him put a sympathetic paw on you that will likely be lost to you for you are not a pokémon. Pat pat pat.
The pokédex is luckily not too far down. He flips up the top and turns it on, then makes only a few click before he turns to make the screen more visible. With one hand, he can push the appropriate arrow on the right which moves through full body miniature images of Kanto's pokémon from the beginning. ]
These are the pokémon from my region. Pikachu will be on there too. [ And on cue, up comes a pikachu profile, along with raichu beside it. ] Most pokémon have a typing to it; like an element if that makes sense. [ He's played video games. ]
Pikachus carry electric in their body - but they discharge it from the red pouches on their cheeks, so it's fine if you're touching the rest of his body.
[ You know, since the guy might want to know that when he has a pikachu already sitting on his lap. ]

The soldier returns his focus to what Red was trying to show him, realizing that he was telling the truth when he said the differences between pokémon were more than those between animals. There are quite a few species.
Given he hasn't been negatively affected yet, he isn't bothered by the new information about Pikachu's electricity, though he doesn't really understand the whole elements thing. However, it does explain his arm, which he raises slightly with a quiet whirr to examine, and he glances between it and the yellow rodent.]
I guess that makes sense. [As much sense as anything makes these days, anyway.]
no subject
Red brings the pokédex back to himself, having given what he thinks is a basic enough example about the differences he mentioned. He closes it back up, but about what the man just said, and that look between Pikachu and the side- ]
Is something up?
[ He could've just meant Red's explanation by that. Unless something felt weird about Pikachu on his lap. ]
no subject
I can feel it in my arm. Like a... current. [He had to think for a moment to recall the word; he never really knew anything technical about the arm that was forced onto him, just how to use it.
The soldier looks back to Pikachu as he lowers his arm with a twitchy movement, but he doesn't seem bothered by it; it isn't the pokémon's fault, anyway. He finds it interesting that there are creatures like this, that can store electricity on their own somehow...]
no subject
It results in a stare from Red, admittedly. But he takes notice of what the man says and gives consideration to it. ] Is it uncomfortable...?
[ Even Pikachu wonders too, but he doesn't wait for the answer to try and make having him there better. With a pii!, he picks himself up and moves to sit on the part of the man's lap furthest from his arm, putting his back against him as well, position his tail to hang off the side and nearer to his human arm. He lifts his head back against him, peering up at him from his new position. Pi? Is that better? ]
no subject
It's fine. Just different. [It's not even unpleasant, just weird. He's felt worse, and it's not like his arm can feel pain, anyway.
It's the idea of animals with abilities and intelligence like this that really intrigues him, so he glances back to the pokémon trainer to ask more.]
What other types are there?

no subject
If you mean species, there's hundreds of those. But if you mean like Pikachu's electricity, there's [ a tiny pause ] about seventeen discovered by now. Electric's one of them -- and steel too.
[ He adds it, just because. Well. Kind of relevant!? The pokédex packed away again, he sits the bag beside himself, keeping it close to him by putting the straps around his arm. ]
I don't know how easy typing is to understand when you're not used to pokémon, but... [ He thinks a second. ] Some of them you can guess looking at the pokémon - like airborne pokémon being flying types. But not always.
no subject
Are steel types made of steel? [He gets having metal parts, obviously, but he still has nonmetal ones, and he's not sure he'd call the completely-metal things he's seen anything like an animal. Plus, his mechanical limb wasn't exactly something he had naturally, even if it does work just as well as his other one.]
no subject
But while the conversation is at least proving a good enough time waster, there was a reason they decided to sit down. ]
By the way, this won't help you feel better right away. [ Pikachu on him, their shoulders touching- ] It could take a day or two until you're okay again. Do you know anyone here who can look out for you?
[ He's thinking no, but he might as well ask. ]
no subject
He appreciates the information--knowing that he won't feel back to normal until later will help him deal with it until he does--but the question makes him look away. He does but doesn't. Sure, he knows someone here, he'd learned of his presence almost immediately, but Rogers doesn't know he's here yet, and the soldier wants to keep it that way for now. He knows that if he asked the man for help he would probably offer it freely, but there are too many conflicting feelings that would go with that. He's having a hard enough time dealing with everything as is.]
No. I haven't met anyone yet.
no subject
Ah. He looks up to the man, a thought clicking. ]
They might have something at the hospital they can give you to help you through today. Do you want to check it out? I know the way.
[ But while he's posing it as an option, he adds- ] It'll be better if we do.
no subject
So while he might have denied the need to visit a place like the hospital in the previous week, right now he's a little more willing to do what it takes to stop feeling so tired. He nods, looking away from Red for a moment.]
Alright.
no subject
[ He points upward on the man, and Pikachu gets what he means, nodding before standing up and climbing to take to his shoulder instead. He holds on with a small clump of his hair, which the man shouldn't feel.
Red stands up, shifting his bag to around his shoulder again, holding out his hand to the man after. He'll wait until he gets up to speak. ]
If you need to get anything today, I can come along with you. But we can go to where you're staying afterwards.
[ And that should give the man enough contact to help. Contact, medicine and rest. It'll help, hopefully. ]
