Test Drive - July Edition
![]() The July Test Drive! Trying to see if a character will fit or work in the setting? Need some interaction samples? Well this meme is for you! Make a post, tag around, and most importantly, have fun! Here's the setting page for those who want to learn a little more about the city itself. |
Here's some prompts to help you get started, if you need it: |
Option 1 |
[ It looks like there are preparations underway for some sort of festival or fair. There are various stands and booths being erected along sectioned-off streets and the riverbank, and decorations are slowly but surely being hanged. Fireflies seem to be appearing all along the riverbank as the sun sets, with a few stands set up with mason jars of various sizes as well as paper lanterns, possibly as further decorations. Whatever the case, it looks like those setting up could use some help! ] |
Option 2 |
[ Though most of the stands are being set up, that doesn't mean that there aren't a few vendors looking to help those out and about beat the heat in some fashion. There are some selling shaved ice with various flavors, and others that appear to be handing out water-filled balloons or squirt guns. However, like in the market district, there's a catch – the items are free, so long as you arrive at the stall in pairs or groups larger than two. ] |
Option 3 |
[ Whoops. Looks like you haven't taken the cautionary words of the other NPCs to heart, or maybe you just wanted to take your chances. Either way, the withdrawal symptoms have started and you need to find someone to hug quickly before you get even more sick.] |
Option 4 |
[If there's something else you wanted to play with, that you didn't see here, then have fun with that. You've just arrived in a strange city, after all. There's got to be plenty to explore out and about, not to mention people to meet.] |
no subject
[But after a while the stares began to turn away from him. He blinked and started towards the general direction of some onlookers, catching sight of the many booths and decorations.]
[Ah, they must be setting up for a festival. For a moment he just looked on, a small smile coming to his face as he remembered the carnivals back home. It wasn't exactly the same, but seeing the game and many food booths reminded him of those leading to the tents.]
[Still, it was fascinating to him. He'd never taken part in a Japanese festival before. Mostly because all of Japan had been taken over by Akuma and often times the partakers where using such things to draw in humans for the slaughter. But this one was nice! He couldn't sense any Akuma anyway! And when he noticed a little old lady struggling with some signing he quickly acted to help her, and soon enough he was running all over the place doing this and that.]
B. [Other than helping the people set up, he also decided to use the current situation to his advantage. After all he had just been transplanted from his world to a new one, without a single dime on him. You know what that means, it was time to make some money.]
[As more crowds built up he decided to start performing, after all he did still have a clown costume in his bag, although he was missing the makeup and most of his props, but it hardly mattered. He kept the people focused in on his tricks and stunts, easily balancing on balls as he juggled and danced. And at the end of every show he would activate clown crown for a single moment within his finale, the long coat swirling around him before he took a deep, masked bow.
[Another way he decided to make money was to go around and trick people into playing poker with him. After all he was just a kid, until he beat them, and beat them again, and again...Well he was a professional cheater at cards you know. Will your character be swindled down to their underwear or will he stand up and face this pretty 16 year old, calling him a liar and a filthy cheat?]
B - part one
[Okay, he's genuinely fascinated. This 16-year-old can't help but lean forward at the sudden outfit change. This is the first time he's met someone else that's able to just...up and change, out of nowhere, like that. In all honesty, this distraction is very much appreciated. He can't help but become instantly curious to know how the person's able to do it. There has to be some kind of magic involved, right...?
So, after watching the stranger take a bow, Sora doesn't waste any time in approaching him; grinning lightly, he tilts his head just a bit.]
Hey, so...that was pretty cool! [A beat as he continues to grin, lightly.] Mind if I ask how you did all that?
no subject
[But hey, he hadn't run into an Akuma since he got here, might as well put them to some use.]
[He stands up, his more humanoid hand pushing back the mask and hood so that he can see Sora face to face, and instantly he's returning the smile, although his was more relaxed.]
I'm glad you enjoyed the show. [And then he winks] And my apologies, but I can't very well be giving away my secrets now, can I?
But I miiiight be able to show you more, for a small sum.
[Can’t be showing his entire deck straight off the bat for free now can he?]
no subject
Heh! Fair enough! [Sora wasn't exactly shy about showing his own abilities- still, everyone was different! Well. Maybe, it was the unknown aspects that made things fun to watch? In any case, he was pretty sure there was a saying out there... One about how knowing the secret behind a trick, could make the trick less interesting to see? Or...something.
The offer of seeing more, in exchange for a "small sum", had Sora's head tilting to the side. Well, he didn't have much, but...]
Okay! Hoooow's... [With that, he held up a bit of money.] -this?
[]Hey, it wasn't as though he really needed all that much. He still had enough to eat and buy what he needed to!]
no subject
[And yeah, it was more fun to see then it was to know. He remembered when he was a small child, looking at all the performers and wondering how they were able to do that. Now when he sees a good show he respects them, but that wonder was lost.]
[He smiles at the boy and takes the small change.]
Yes, that'll do, thank you very much.
[The teen puts the money into the same hat he was keeping the crowds offerings and then with a glamorous spin his feathery white cape wraps around him until all that can be seen is the mask, he then stops and stares out into the crowd before flourishing and revealing that Allen was no longer there, nobody was, the cape was moving and standing on its own.]
[Meanwhile the white haired teen came from behind and tapped Sora on the shoulder, just as the cape vanished before the crowd.] Tada~ [He said with a chuckle.]
no subject
When the white-haired guy accepts his offering, Sora grins, and then...
...He certainly hadn't expected that. Blue eyes widen as the teenager watches the person disappear. While watching the awesome scene unfold, he's completely unaware of the one approaching him from behind. So, when he feels that tap, and hears that voice, he's instantly blinking as he spins around.]
Wooooah, no way...!
[Sora's outright grinning, at that. There's no way, though, that those can just be mere tricks. It has to be some kind of actual magic. Honestly, he'd love it if he could learn to...to teleport, or whatever it was the guy had done.]
Heh! That was cooler than anything I can do.
no subject
[Sorry Sora, he didn't have the power of teleportation, but he could teach you how to use your power and charm to distract away the eyes of the audience to pull off a similar stunt.]
[The white haired boy grins, truly happy that the other liked the show and being called cool wasn't all that bad either.]
Is that so? Well give it some time and practice and you'll never know what will happen. Maybe one day I'll be staring in awe at you.
[Some friendly competition wasn’t bad, and the this boy certainly had the energy to become a showman. And something about him kind of reminded him of clown, he means that in the nicest way possible.]
May I ask your name?
no subject
Hey, he would absolutely love to learn those things, honestly. Speaking of things he loves: encouragement. The brunette grins lightly at those words. Well, now a part of him wants to show off what he can do. Good job, sir.]
Heh, who knows! Of course...what I can do is pretty cool, as well!
[With that, he's folding his arms behind his head, his grin growing. Hey, being able to change your forms and use magic is pretty awesome, okay! The Keyblade wielder might be genuine and pure in most ways, but he is still very much a teenage boy with a competitive streak. Not only that, but a love of showing off what he's sure he does well at. For the most part, anyway. A part of that has dimmed down, a bit...hence him not jumping to ask Allen if he wants a demonstration.]
Ah-! [Right...There's a bit of a sheepish look in his smile as he says-] My name's Sora! What's yours?
no subject
[Ugh, he didn't want to remember those times...]
Heh, is that so?
[He say's kindly, folding his arms and tilting his head, curious about the boy's abilities. ]
Oh, my apologies. [He holds out his human hand to Sora in greeting.] My names Allen Walker, it's a pleasure to meet you. Would you be interested in showing your talents for me and our lovely audience?
B - part two
really...
hates...
losing...
Okay, he's going to resist challenging him to another, and then running back to his apartment. Deep breaths, Luke. Just...just walk away from this.]
... [He lets out a sigh, and then scratches the side of his head.] ...Alright, you're apparently a genius at this game.
[Muttering.] Either that, or the people I played against, last, just happened to suck worse than I do...
no subject
I wouldn't say I'm a genius, just well-practiced.
[And if he ever did run into a chap that had more experience than him, well he was smart enough, and poor enough, to stop playing right there and then. It was rather strange how something that used to be just a way to make a quick buck eventually became rather enjoyable, at least when playing with good natured people.]
[He blinks, just barely catching those muttering and laughing.]
Well maybe they underestimated you? It happens often to me in this game. [As he talks he's taking his custom cards and shuffling them through again, before starting to deal them out despite himself. Come on Luke, let's play another round~ Maybe you'll win this time.]
no subject
Fair enough, I guess...
[The redhead had become skilled in all of his talents, because he'd devoted so much time to them. Luke had given his all to become capable of cooking good food, for example. So...if Allen's being truthful, he can definitely respect that level of commitment to get this great at something. Hard work is something Luke admires, after all.]
Heh...maybe. [Watching the cards get dealt, Luke lets out a sheepish laugh.] As...tempting as it is to try beating you- [and as frustrated as he is to admit this (hence his tone expressing that)]- I don't exactly have anything else to offer up. So, unless you just want to play for the fun of it, I'm gonna have to call it quits.
[Fortunately, for Luke, he's lost a bit of that pride that'd had him chasing after Spinoza, rather than going straight to Daath.]
no subject
[But Allen did put his all into everything he committed too, whether it was learning cards or strengthening his abilities. But probably the hardest talent he learned was involved in his street performances.]
Ah, but you still have the clothes on your back right? Come on, we're both guys, how about we advance this into a little game of strip poker.
[He was saying all of that with a bright innocent smile on his face, but his tone was anything but innocent.]
[Look, he was just suggesting it really, I mean they COULD play for fun...but...He smirks, well this was just way more fun.]
I'm still laughing...XD;
Strip...poker...
What.]
W-wait... [Stare.] Huh? But, why would-...? [His face heated just a bit as he frowned, before he was looking to the side.] I've never even heard of a game like that. What's the point of it?
Oh? let's keep that up then :3
To utterly humiliate the loser and claim dominance.
[He say's with a perfectly straight face. But no, he was teasing him really and this shows in his face in the next moment.]
I'm kidding, it's all in good fun really. I don't plan to keep your clothes or whatever, also it makes it harder to cheat when you have no sleeves to hide your cards.
ALLEN PLZ
[The perfectly straight face is more than enough to have Luke giving a look of disbelief. Then, the facade drops, and Luke's giving a frown. Wow, this guy's way too good, for comfort...
Sighing, though, the replica appears to consider his words. Good fun, huh? Well, that certainly does up the stakes. Not to mention, it's not as though it's not a million degrees outside, right now.]
...
[Shifting in his seat, he gives a bit of a defeated sigh.]
Alright, fine. One game.
He's just going to give you an innocent look.
One game. [He repeats with a nod and then picks up his own cards glancing down at them before looking straight into green.]
[Instantly that amazing poker face was on, it didn't matter if he had a bad hand or a good one, either way he was confident in his chances of winning.]
...
[then for a moment his look softens a touch, deciding that for this game he'll play a little more fairly, at least for now...]
[Luke wasn’t the only one who didn’t like to lose. And sometimes Allen had the problem of cheating without really thinking about it. A kind hearted lady would cry for the rough life this kid has had to live.]
[But for now, this would be a game of fun, so let’s see how good this guy really was.]
...Right. Innocent.
Studying them, he forces himself to keep a calm face. The only reason he became better at poker, is because Jade taught him how to keep his face steady (apparently watching Luke continue to lose Gald in that casino had grown painful, or something). Either way, it's the only time Luke's able to. Granted, he still can't keep his eyes unreadable. That's Luke, though. He's a terrible liar, in the end, no matter how someone looks at it.
When it's his turn, he returns some cards, and then draws new ones.]
Totally.
[And he was addicted to winning.]
[But he stops himself still, his lighter eyes staring into vibrant green and making out every emotion he can from them, his own like ice on the outside.]
How long have you been playing?
[Might as well start some small talk. Even as his mind is a tad worry by the crappy hand he currently had. Perhaps he can still change it around though.]
