Test Drive - July Edition
![]() The July Test Drive! Trying to see if a character will fit or work in the setting? Need some interaction samples? Well this meme is for you! Make a post, tag around, and most importantly, have fun! Here's the setting page for those who want to learn a little more about the city itself. |
Here's some prompts to help you get started, if you need it: |
Option 1 |
[ It looks like there are preparations underway for some sort of festival or fair. There are various stands and booths being erected along sectioned-off streets and the riverbank, and decorations are slowly but surely being hanged. Fireflies seem to be appearing all along the riverbank as the sun sets, with a few stands set up with mason jars of various sizes as well as paper lanterns, possibly as further decorations. Whatever the case, it looks like those setting up could use some help! ] |
Option 2 |
[ Though most of the stands are being set up, that doesn't mean that there aren't a few vendors looking to help those out and about beat the heat in some fashion. There are some selling shaved ice with various flavors, and others that appear to be handing out water-filled balloons or squirt guns. However, like in the market district, there's a catch – the items are free, so long as you arrive at the stall in pairs or groups larger than two. ] |
Option 3 |
[ Whoops. Looks like you haven't taken the cautionary words of the other NPCs to heart, or maybe you just wanted to take your chances. Either way, the withdrawal symptoms have started and you need to find someone to hug quickly before you get even more sick.] |
Option 4 |
[If there's something else you wanted to play with, that you didn't see here, then have fun with that. You've just arrived in a strange city, after all. There's got to be plenty to explore out and about, not to mention people to meet.] |
no subject
[Okay, perhaps he was being too subtle for the newcomer here. Or... well, he certainly hoped he wasn't intimidating him. Either way, he'd have to make his intentions known a little better.]
No, remember? It's as I told you; you need not pay for it, so long as we stay grouped.
[A glance over his shoulder confirmed that the shopkeeper- however exasperated- seemed accepting of this turn of events. With his attention deflected, Ramza spoke a bit more candidly to the boy.]
Yours is a face I haven't seen here before; did you only just arrive?
no subject
...was it really that obvious? He can't help but feel a bit embarrassed by his mistake.]
So that's why everyone else was just taking them! You're right though... I haven't been here long. Thanks for helping me out.
[Oh right, he should probably introduce himself, huh.]
I'm Lucas. What's your name?
no subject
Ramza. Ramza Beoulve. And think naught of it. [He couldn't blame the boy for his confusion; he'd had nearly a year's stay in Saeng Seong and even now the laws and logic of the city were only starting to come to light.]
You'll grow accustomed to it in time; from seats to storefronts, much within the city assumes you've brought a friend.
...Though I must admit it's all the more daunting if you arrived alone.
no subject
[He's still a little hesitant to take his hand, but does so. He was right, ending up in unfamiliar surroundings alone was never a comfortable situation to be in. Lucas could barely remember the last time he had felt comfortable, relieved, but somehow, making contact with this person helped a little.
Still, it was daunting to be pulled from a familiar world already broken, into a new one with its own rules. He frowns, obviously concerned.]
It looks like my friends got left behind. I haven't met anyone I know here yet. So... I'm on my own.
no subject
[A year later and, however time had weakened it, the thought and memory of it still stung him. But by the same token he couldn't say it so bluntly to someone so young.
He could still muster some optimism, at least.]
Most of us were so when we arrived, in fact... but we made fast friends of each other here.
[Ramza paused, glancing back down to Lucas' ice.]
...Is that any good?
no subject
Lucas might have commented on the subject of friends had Ramza not suddenly become distracted by the blue ice in his hand.]
Oh! Yeah, it's nice! Do you want to try some?
[He's offering you the cup anyway Ramza, you know you want to.]
no subject
[Well he wasn't planning on taking some of the frozen treats from a lonely and probably somewhat intimidated child... but he wasn't above turning down an earnest and friendly gesture, either.]
...Yes. Thank you.
[A sample of the dessert yielded an experience all but unknown to him, and he couldn't say it was the sort of sweetness he preferred in his treats; but the refreshing frostiness of ice itself was enough to show him the appeal... particularly in weather such as this.]
...Not bad. [If only he'd found out about it sooner, it might have made those prior months of heat a bit more tolerable. He restrained himself from a second bite and offered it back to Lucas. They had a few more things to cover first...]
They told you the importance of touch in this city, did they not?
no subject
Ramza's next question prompts pensiveness out of Lucas again. The moments before he had arrived had been surreal... fuzzy... like something out of a dream, but he remembered the words. He remembered the envelope containing the note too, though the details had been a lot to take in all at once.]
Um... it was something to do with energy, right? If we don't touch someone after a while, we get sick?
[And Lucas got the impression it wasn't something that just went away like the fevers he got from his PSI.]
no subject
[Of course, given what he'd learned of late it was ALSO a scanter and prettier picture than what he was slowly piecing together of their circumstances. But even if they weren't somewhere private to discuss such matters, Lucas had enough to think about already.]
Most here would not think much of it if you asked for so much as a handshake, so you need not keep fear for the sickness.
[Maybe that was a bit rude...]
Ah, beg pardon, Lucas. You... seemed the timid sort.
no subject
I'm not afraid. [Of getting sick anyway.] And if I make friends here then there's nothing to worry about. We can help each other... like you did.
[Suddenly that reassuring feeling he'd sensed upon taking Ramza's hand had taken on a whole new meaning.]
no subject
He had found it difficult to adjust, himself, but he had to wonder...]
...Was your world anything like this?
no subject
[Well, on the face of it, it wasn't much like it at all. But there were basic things he could recognise. While they stroll, the boy thinks for a moment, wondering how best to explain it. Leaving out much of the detail was probably for the best... for both of them.]
It was a lot... smaller. Greener too, at least until they took over. [A tinge of anger.] I'm not sure if I even know my own world anymore...
no subject
[Well, so much for being able to let go his concerns. His steps slowed, his gaze and mind both focused intensely upon Lucas. It could have been just about anything, but...
Ramza was hoping his own suspicions weren't correct. That it was nothing like the fiends he had to face.]
Pray tell more, Lucas.
no subject
[Feeling Ramza's eyes on him, Lucas couldn't help but feel a little bit self-conscious now. Never mind that he was asking him to explain what had transpired the last few years, the boy wasn't really sure if he wanted to bring it up right now.
He certainly wasn't smiling about it.]
...the Pigmasks. They ruined everything. Before I came here, I was going to see their leader. I... I have to stop him, before it's too late.
no subject
He'd expected demons, or armies, or some such answer all too familiar to him... but knowing that the problems and threats of his homeland were not so widespread was bittersweet comfort in the face of his new friend's misery.
He crouched slightly, a hand on Lucas' shoulder.]
...Forgive me. I ask overmuch of someone who only just arrived.
no subject
[Ramza didn't know anything about what had happened after all, he was just curious and likely concerned. That was a good thing, that he cared enough to ask.
There was a lot to go through for him to get the full picture however, and some of it was just too painful for Lucas to go into right now, especially with someone he had just met. He tries to offer a smile, no matter how small, to reassure his new companion all the same.]
I haven't really had a chance to stop and think for a long time. It can get a bit overwhelming, but it's not your fault.
