Make a post, tag around, and most importantly, have fun! Here's the setting page for those who want to learn a little more about the city itself. Then don't forget to go reserve your character in a week when they open. Here's some prompts to help you get started, if you need it: Option 1 [With summer coming, the water level in the river is starting to go down, exposing some of the riverbank. The Riverside Shack is open late, and its restaurant is pulling out all the stops and offering seafood specials (even though a river is a far cry from an ocean). The rental store, meanwhile, is finally bringing out more of its swimming supplies, inner tubes and pool noodles, and a calmer stretch of the river has been roped off with buoys for swimming. They even have lifeguards chairs set up. Clearly this sort of thing used to be an annual event. It's not quite an ocean beach (quite different actually), but there's still plenty of chance to have fun in the water. Or teach someone to swim, perhaps.] Option 2 [With a new district available to the public, there are new places to visit. However there are also questions with each new arrival. One may find themselves headed for Saeng Seong's town hall and government buildings in search of answers. Whether it be more reasons for why they're here, or simply looking for an attorney to sue the unnamed scientists that brought you here. (However, they may be slightly prejudiced to this one. You've been warned.)] Option 3 [There are certainly a lot of different options for shopping in the city. Perhaps one of the more interesting and eclectic of these options, however, is the outdoor Marketplace in District 3. All sorts of fresh food stalls line the large open area, with different aisles that can be walked down. There's food of all kinds here - fruits, diary, vegetables, and so on and so forth. Some of it will likely be familiar, but other kinds may be so foreign as to be unrecognizable - a orange, seemingly hollow kind of fruit with holes like swiss cheese, for example, or salad greens with leaves the size of heads of pins. You are on a different world, after all. So wander the marketplace! Discover something new! And perhaps meet other curious people such as yourself...] Option 4 [Whoops. Looks like you haven't taken the cautionary words of the other NPCs to heart, or maybe you just wanted to take your chances. Either way, the withdrawal symptoms have started and you need to find someone to hug quickly before you get even more sick.] Option 5 [If there's something else you wanted to play with, that you didn't see here, then have fun with that. You've just arrived in a strange city, after all. There's got to be plenty to explore out and about, not to mention people to meet.]

This should be fine. I'll even give you a piggy back ride to a safe house if you want. [ She only offers because it would help more than just holding hands, and awkward though it might be he's small enough at this age that she thinks she can probably carry him. ]

I can't promise you Bats won't see, but I can avoid civilians.

[ Right, now is probably a good time to introduce herself. ]

So, funny story, did you notice that there's a blonde Batgirl running around lately? [ She raises her eyebrows, daring him to not get what she's saying. ]

It might take a pretty big bribe.

[staystraught]

I saw a thing that had bat-ears and long blonde hair.

[He allows for that much, even with the hard note of skepticism in his voice.]

But "Batgirl" makes about as much sense as "Wonder Man." Who'd even make that up?

[...and yet.]

The bribe probably just got bigger, huh?

[ichoosefight]

[ She gives him a look so flat it's basically two-dimensional. ]

On second thought, maybe I'll just leave you here.

[staystraught]

What if I rephrased it as a genuine question?

[Spoken very, very hastily.]

At least give me that the idea of Wonder Man is dumb.

[ichoosefight]

[ She crosses her arms. ]

Not any dumber than 'Superman' or 'Batman' or 'Star Man' or 'Mr. Terrific.'

[ Let's be real superhero names are bizarre. ]

[staystraught]

I'm not-- I don't question the conventions, okay? I'm saying Wonder Woman kind of has a monopoly on that particular adjective and imagery. And Batman's the only Batman there is. Someone else [leeching off] borrowing that and trying to make it work is... silly.

He's one of a kind. Same for Superman. Superboy doesn't even try, not really. He doesn't go for the majestic cape, just the t-shirt. And I don't, either-- I never even considered being "Batboy" or something.

[ichoosefight]

[ Oh. Oh. She starts counting on her fingers. ]

There have been three Batgirls, five Robins, one Batwoman, two Wonder Girls, two Supergirls and a Superwoman.

I didn't create the legacy, I just inherited it.

What, did he lower the licensing fees or something? Did Ray Kroc come back from the dead to buy him out and get the franchise going?

[ She snorts and rolls her eyes. Her hands find her hips. ]

Believe it or not, Batman does not rule the world. And some of us don't really care what he thinks. That's a job for Robins, not Batgirls.

[staystraught]

[Congratulations-- you just sparked his interest.]

So you're straight-up copyright infringement and he still can't stop you. Cool.

[ichoosefight]

He's come to accept us as an inevitability, I think.

[staystraught]

"Accept" is not his favorite word. Kinds admire that. I mean, he always wears down eventually, but skipping to actual acceptance is like, super difficult.

Slight awe, possibly. Do you give him a hard time, too?

[ichoosefight]

He actually hired on the second one, but he's tried to fire me like... five times? I've never really tried to count. [ Yes she is proud of that even if one firing resulted in near death. ]

[usedacrobatics]

[That awe is becoming increasingly noticeable, as his cocky confidence gives way to sincere admiration.]

So you actually defy him to his face? Man. I can do the reasoned argument or I can go behind his back, but to the face defiance...

[ichoosefight]

[ She laughs, only a touch sheepishly. Talk about stroking her ego. ]

To be fair, that probably has something to do with the constantly trying to fire me. But it's not like he employed me in the first place, so whatever.

[usedacrobatics]

[Maybe it's the parental relationship or the feeling of being deeply in Bruce's debt, but even Dick's little rebellions are done quietly, not in Bruce's face.]

Copyright infringement, then.

But you said other girls were Batgirl first...? I mean, did he try to fire all of them?

[ichoosefight]

[ Steph has none of those feelings towards Bruce, and is in fact sometimes quite bitter towards him. But she doesn't extend that to Robin, and she does her best to support him gently and maintain physical contact as much as possible. He does seem to be feeling better. ]

I'm sure he tried with the first one, but she's as much of the family now as he is. The second one he treated like a daughter.

[He squirms involuntarily at the word 'daughter.' He tries not to be jealous, but it's clearly not working. He knows it isn't right -- Bruce always treated him like a son, after all, who is he to talk?

Still, that doesn't jive with the Batman he knows. If Specimen A is "of the family" and Specimen B is "like a daughter," then Specimen C shouldn't be any different.

Heck. If Robin is honest with himself, Bruce might not be particularly parental about Artemis or Conner, but he was... not encouraging, not exactly, but he never stood in their way. He'd never seriously tried to hinder any of them-- he'd threatened to, but he'd allowed them to convince him otherwise.]

It's not like him to be that... inconsistent.

[And you're clearly awesome, so.]

No? [ She chuckles, aiming for ironic but landing flat. There's a lot of baggage there. Memories of them working together, of him turning her away, praise, criticism, hiring her on as Robin, firing her for real, the lies, the gang war. 'Inconsistent' is definitely the word she would choose. ]

I always knew I was special.

[ Well screw him, that's what. ]

[usedacrobatics]

That or he's finally lost his marbles.

[He really, really hopes that's not the case. But Bruce is such a... weird person. An altruist to the core, but still with that scary dark thing deep inside that drove him...]

But the two aren't mutually exclusive.

[ That makes her snort so loud she has to cover her hand with her mouth to try and recover some dignity. ]

Oh, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, you totally think he isn't crazy. No, that's cool, that's a legitimate world-view.

The "hasn't been caught" [except by Ra's al Ghul] thing seems to support that particular world-view.

[Not that-- not that he speaks with all that much conviction. Bruce is such a weird person...]

Although. How old is-- how old is he?

[If the League doesn't keep him on his rocker, he could see his way to seeing... Eventually...]
