Welcome to the Rekindle Test Drive! Trying to see if a character will fit or work in the setting? Need some interaction samples? Well this meme is for you! Make a post, tag around, and most importantly, have fun! Here's the setting page for those who want to learn a little more about the city itself. Then don't forget to go reserve your character in a week when they open. Here's some prompts to help you get started, if you need it:

Option 1

[The midsummer heat is still in full swing. But that's okay - enterprising residents on the riverbanks are renting out innertubes for you to float along the cool waters in. The catch? They're innertubes for two, and you're sharing with the person ahead of/behind you in line! Get nice and cozy, you two.]

Option 2

[There's something odd about some of the shops in the third district. There doesn't seem to be any pattern - it's something that can be found in all sorts of establishments. But if you see the twin daisy sign in the window, it turns out that you can get a discount when making a purchase with someone else. It could be someone you know, or someone new entirely, but so long as you both reach the checkout at the same time, you get the discount - a pretty substantial one too! So hey, look and see if there's anyone else shopping with you! Could be a great way to stretch the allowance you've been given.]

Option 3

[Even if there are no children among the natives, it doesn't stop the adults from being a little immature - or maybe the heat's just getting to them. If you glance around, you might notice almost-hidden baskets of water balloons, tucked under benches and against trash cans... If you didn't notice, though, it might be an awful surprise when one hits the back of your head. And when you whip around to look - well, it's probably not immediately obvious who the culprit is. Will you brush it off, yell and scream, or take revenge on the town at large?]

Option 4

[Whoops. Looks like you haven't taken the cautionary words of the other NPCs to heart, or maybe you just wanted to take your chances. Either way, the withdrawal symptoms have started and you need to find someone to hug quickly before you get even more sick.]

Option 5

[If there's something else you wanted to play with, that you didn't see here, then have fun with that. You've just arrived in a strange city, after all. There's got to be plenty to explore out and about, not to mention people to meet.]

[Akihiko obviously stalks him.

That question prompted Akihiko to quirk a brow. Shinji was being as friendly as ever, of course.]

Running. What's it look like?

[He drew closer to his friend and carefully looked him over. He had heard of, rather than seen, other people coming down with symptoms after lack of contact for a period.]

You okay, man? You look kinda pale.

He didn't need Akihiko to babysit him, even with all things considered.]

It's just a cold. It'll pass eventually.

[Yes. He exercises. And eats beef bowls.

And as usual, Akihiko brushed off his protests. He pulled the glove off of one hand and pressed it to Shinji's forehead, trying to gauge his temperature.]

The others mentioned something like this... You feel like you're getting sick, then it just keeps getting worse.

[Akihiko pulled back, but then moved his hand over to his friend's arm, maintaining contact between them. He had long since suspected Shinji would refrain from touching people. If he needed to force that on Shinji, well... it was for his own good, damn it.]

C'mon, Shinji. You don't wanna feel like shit, do ya?

[If you only knew, M'gann. If you only knew.

She reminds him of Minako in that she's extremely persistent. But unlike Minako, there is some shyness and uncertainty. Much like Fuuka; she wants to help but doesn't always do so in the way she planned.]

You should help people who deserve it.

And if it's not, you're gonna get it too. Then I'll have to-

[He sighs and grumbles at his friend. If they weren't out in public and he was feeling better, this might turn into a bit of a fight. Instead, he endures the contact.]

[Oh. Oh you're a giant fish.

Granted, you also seem to be part person, but really. The 'fish' thing is the important part here. From a nearby perch, Citra's wings snap open and she peers over the edge of the building again, licking her lips.

Should she really...? She looked like she was part-person, after all...

But then again-- that was enough fish to feed her for a while.


Goodness, what a conundrum.

So sorry, Nami- you're about to have a bird-girl swoop into your face with little regard for personal space. If she was going to eat her, she could at least make sure she wasn't, you know, 'intelligent life' or whatever.]

What are you doing?

[ The question comes out from a man of average height and a compact muscular build, just a bit on the side of flat and blunt--nothing like being experimented on for four years to generate skepticism of people in lab coats acting shady as they take notes. Granted Carlos doesn't really seem threatening, so Cloud's not trying to be either, but there definitely are more pleasant tones to use. ]

[ That woman has a fishtail.

...He's just...going to assume this is some kind of costume malfunction that's gotten way out of hand and put that weirdness aside to approach her anyway--the space is pretty public and with the amount of success she's having getting back up (he's not even sure she is trying to get back up), she's liable to get stepped on or tripped over soon. He leans over her, offering his hand as his eyes flick to the "tail" again. ] Here...

[ ...Okay. That thing attached to her is moving all wrong for there to be legs underneath it. ] Uh. You okay?

[ Is it real? ]

[If it looks like a fishtail and behaves like a fishtail, then there's a very likely chance that it's the real thing.]

I'm not hurt, but I can't... [nope, still no luck.] I don't get it. I've never had this much of a problem with moving on dry land. [A sigh, as Nami really wishes she could get some movement going right about now.] She then looks at his hand, but shakes her head.]

Sorry, but I don't think that's gonna do much for me.

[Some noticeable movement from her tail to further illustrate that standing up is just a little impossible right now.]

[Nami only manages to sit up before suddenly someone very close to her face. Her time in the League has afforded her the opportunity of seeing so much in such a short amount of time, though she hasn't ever seen someone who looks quite like this one. Frankly, she's a little uncomfortable by the proximity and her lingering feelings of vulnerability but Nami has been through much worse.]

[what kind of question is that? surface dwellers...]

[ Yeah, that's real. Cloud's hand drops to join his other hand at his knees as he stares a little longer at the tail before realizing that's probably rude and moving his eyes back to her face. ]

You come on dry land a lot? [ somewhere between a joke, because lady you are not having any luck with moving around right now, and just flat out bewilderment because she obviously did get out here somehow. ]

...I can carry you. The river might be better...? [ Because fish, right? He's not quite connecting this to touch withdrawal yet, being new himself. At any rate he's not making any move yet to pick her up, because this is one hell of an awkward situation and he's not going to make it worse by doing anything she doesn't want. ]

Only recently. I'm looking for something really important.

[It's not that she disliked the surface world, but it was the the ocean that would always be her home. Even so, her quest right now required her to leave it all behind. Much as Nami missed the sea, she couldn't go back until she found what she was searching for.

As far as being carried went, she was honestly a little hesitant about the idea. Whoever this guy was, he seemed nice enough and it wasn't like she was feeling distrustful towards him. She just wasn't... used to this. Still, she Nami wasn't the type to let pride get in the way of making the obvious choice, especially if it meant making it to some water.]

You're right, it sounds a lot better than this.

[She holds an arm out for him.]

[ carlos startles a little at the voice, glancing around him briefly just to be certain he's the one being addressed. he offers a small, slightly puzzled smile at the question, reaching up to tuck his pen back behind his ear. ]

Writing down initial observations. It's very important, while it's all fresh. Especially since I'm not accustomed to being, ah, transported to other.. worlds this way. Theoretical physics involving space/time and alternate.. or parallel? Worlds. Ah. Not really my area of focus.

[ he seems to deflate a little, running a hand back through his hair absently. ] .. I was also sort of hoping to find my boyfriend, but that seems unlikely at this point.

[... Yeah, this guy definitely isn't threatening at all. The science babble reminds him more of Bugenhagen's rambling than Hojo's cutting remarks, and though "boyfriend" gets a slow blink from Cloud--he's known people who bat for the other team, but it's not usually an open topic outside of places like Wall Market-- the frustrated search draws some sympathy from him. ]

I don't think people get brought together often. My, family [ still a little weird to say that ] isn't here either. [ A quick shrug. ] Too bad. Would've made the 'go hug someone' thing easier.

[ Marlene probably would've used it as an excuse to latch on. ]

if she can breathe out of water he wouldn't even think salinity might be a problem so yes XD

[ He wasn't exactly expecting a serious answer to his question, so it's hard for him to sort out a response to that right away; for the moment, he nods, filing that bit away. He supposes it's a desperate times, desperate measures thing, even if he's still at a loss for the mechanics of a fish-girl getting around on land. Some sort of spell...? ]

Don't mention it. [ He sees the hesitance, but she is saying yes and given she is a literal half-fish out of water, it's probably safe to put that down to the awkwardness of the situation and not the solution. The solution is perfectly logical. So he's going to kneel closer to the ground and use the offered arm to guide her into a better position for him to lift her in his arms... with a slight pause at the one hand going under the tail because he's not sure if that's going to be slippery and hard to hold or not--seems like he can get a good grip on it though. ]

...I'm Cloud. [ Because maybe she would like to know who the stranger about to cart her off is. Her weight's not an issue at all, thanks to mako enhancement, so he starts to lift her off the ground. ]

[It is reassuring to know he seems to be okay to handle all of the extra weight she's got going on, and it feels good to at least be off the ground. Nice that things are finally looking up, if only slightly.]

Nice to meet you, Cloud. I'm Nami.

[She offers him a smile, grateful for all that she's doing for her.]

Do you have any idea what's going on?

[ ...Okay, even the fish tail can't distract Cloud entirely from a woman smiling at him while in his arms. He reddens a bit, focusing his eyes on the path ahead. Get her to the river. Simple enough. Time to start walking.

Though hey, there's still talking while walking. ]

You mean how you got stranded? [ He's got no clue on that one. He's come to accept that sometimes his life involves screwy turns of events that make no sense to him. ] Or why we're here?

Yeah, both of those.

[Nami was used to being sent to all kinds of places. Summoner's Rift, The Crystal Scar... It all came with being a champion in the League. Though even so, she'd have some sort of notification that she was being sent off somewhere. This... totally came from out of nowhere. It was far too populated to seem like a Field of Justice.

A rogue summoner, maybe? No way of knowing for sure.]

I know it doesn't look like it, but I can move on dry land just fine. But I can't even do that much.

[ Grimacing a bit. She's not going to like this; who would? ] Not sure why you can't, but this city's taking people in to fix a mess of theirs. Not necessarily stopping to check if we're interested. [ Kidnapping for good cause! ...Yeah, it's stupid. ] It... doesn't really make sense how we're supposed to fix it, either. But it does seem like touching gives people energy here. You feel anything? [ He does know he felt miserable when he got here--and being the kind of person he is, that lasted a while. At the same time he's going to feel dumb saying this if she's not feeling anything from a full-out carry. This is involving way more contact than he usually does. Probably has been skating by on handshakes so far. And Zack. ]

*puts on Mitsuru hat for lecturing*

No, I won’t. [Akihiko shakes his head with confidence.] It isn’t contagious. I mean, not in the way you’re thinking of.

[Fighting works too. So you really like getting punched by Akihiko, don’t you?

He continues to speak all calm and composed while keeping his hand on his arm. He isn’t sure how much help it would do, depending on the level of Shinji’s ailment.] I’m fine. Don’t worry. [He sighs a bit and frowns.] Just tell me next time, will ya? Don’t be pulling the same shit you did back home.

[Successfully knocking Akihiko out is an option, but less likely nowadays.

It feels really uncomfortable, even with his best friend doing it, to be touched like this. In fact, he hasn't been touched this long. It's already been a couple minutes.

It's helping him too, though. They're both benefiting from this, so he's inwardly happy for that.]

Listen to you, all wise and knowledgeable about shit... [He comments, half-amused. Aki lecturing him. It's usually the other way around.]

"That's not an answer."

[She feels obligated to point that out, crossing her arms. Maybe it's time to take a slightly more hardline stance? Since she doesn't have any cookies or the like to offer, it seems like the next best option.]

"I mean, it's...Not really one. And you seem ok?"

[A little scowly maybe, but time with Superboy has gotten M'gann used to that. Which reminds her of something else she could offer:]

"I could always help by cheering you up."

[Truth be told, Akihiko hasn't suffered from any of the symptoms since he first arrived, but that's because he doesn't have an aversion to contact. He'll pull back after a few minutes, though, after noticing that Shinji seems uncomfortable. Not for the first time, he wishes things didn't change on that night of the tragic accident with Ken Amada's mother.]

Well, I've been around longer than you. [He points out, while moving over to the bench to start stretching his legs.] And I talk to people. You can try it too, you know.

He sighs, and continues to not give her straight answers.

"We're strangers to each other." He doesn't know anything about her aside from the fact that she's able to fly and make other things do the same, and that her complexion isn't common at all. If she knew what he did, she probably wouldn't want to be anywhere near him.
