Welcome to the Rekindle Test Drive! Trying to see if a character will fit or work in the setting? Need some interaction samples? Well this meme is for you! Make a post, tag around, and most importantly, have fun! Here's the setting page for those who want to learn a little more about the city itself. Then don't forget to go reserve your character in a week when they open. Here's some prompts to help you get started, if you need it: Option 1 [While the days grow longer and warmer and the older, oriental-style of the city would normally make one think that the interiors would not be much in the way of relief from the hot sun, it may surprise the guest to see that the apartments the natives have allocated for them are surprisingly comfortable. In fact, the only modern convenience they may be missing is a television set! At least, outside the media floor on the first floor of Building One - the first of four inter-connected buildings. In fact, each apartment building seems to have at least one different amenity on the first floor. In Building Two they seemed to even spare a library in another that seems to have the basics and some information packets that are otherwise found in the Welcome Center in District 2. There are even a few restaurants and common dining areas in the Building Three that are open until late at night, and meeting areas and a ballroom on the first floor in Building Four, perfect for setting up small parties or big events. With the locals gone save those who work in the restaurants and the one librarian, leaving you to your own devices, what will you do? What mysteries could be left to discover in this place?] Option 2 [With summer coming, the water level in the river is starting to go down, exposing some of the beach. The Riverside Shack is open late, and its restaurant is pulling out all the stops and offering seafood specials (even though a river is a far cry from an ocean). The rental store, meanwhile, is finally bringing out more of its swimming supplies, inner tubes and pool noodles, and a calmer stretch of the river has been roped off with buoys for swimming. They even have lifeguards chairs set up. Clearly this sort of thing used to be an annual event. It's not quite an ocean beach (quite different actually), but there's still plenty of chance to have fun in the water. Or teach someone to swim, perhaps.] Option 3 [If you're more inclined to explore or learn, the City's Learning Center might be more to your tastes. There certainly seems to be a lot going on here - there's laboratories and libraries and workshops, and plenty of communal areas where you can meet and talk with people. The natives seem pretty absorbed with their studies and work, though they're polite in brushing you off, at least. Perhaps you'll have more luck seeing what other Guests such as yourself have discovered?] Option 4 [Whoops. Looks like you haven't taken the cautionary words of the other NPCs to heart, or maybe you just wanted to take your chances. Either way, the withdrawal symptoms have started and you need to find someone to hug quickly before you get even more sick.] Option 5 [If there's something else you wanted to play with, that you didn't see here, then have fun with that. You've just arrived in a strange city, after all. There's got to be plenty to explore out and about, not to mention people to meet.]

Don't they know the first thing about hospitality? Why do they charge such silly things for just a meal?

[Diarmuid gives the other boy a curious look.]

I mean the hero, of course! Why would I look to a dog as the person I want to be like when I grow up? That is just silly!

Did your father name you after him then? Is that why you said that? That would be really neat! To be named after a hero like that!

[If Diarmuid was a little older and better able to remember names, he would realize from all the names the other boy had just mentioned that he was talking to his hero, but as it is, he doesn't remember details quite that well yet.]

_{[Haru doesn't really mind Akira so much as he does that duck. Sure, he's loud, but that's just part of fishing! If you don't say the magic words, you won't get any fish. He seems a little nervous, shifting over and away from where the man is standing, not risking eye contact for fear he'd catch Tapioca's gaze.]}

It's what you say when you cast to fish! _{[At least, that's what Haru thinks. Natsuki started it and he's the fishing prince. Clearly what he does is what should be imitated!]}

[Behave suspiciously and she won't leave him for a second, Haru! Or perhaps that's more her pertner's style. Neither stop watching, the duck out of simple interest, the DUCK agent with a wry smile despite that response.]

Well, have you caught anything yet shouting like that?

[He's not at all surprised that the kid who doesn't know about books doesn't know what researching is.]

That's when you study things so you know more about them.

They became evil spirits. I'm not scared. [All right, he is. But he wouldn't admit it.]

I know how to have fun. [He hasn't had any real fun lately, but he does know how. He used to have lots of fun.] You don't need to have fun to fight evil. They're not related.

I've been exploring. It's part of my research. [Nonetheless, he has been studying for a while, and he could use a break, so he doesn't resist, letting Diarmuid take his hand.] I know a lot about this place already.

[He'd done his best to learn the lay of the land, like Natalia would have.]

Option 2

[ Watching his two young charges splash around in the shallow end of the river from the shore of the beach, Saber doesn't notice the other Servant immediately. In fact, when he finally does sense the other Servant nearby, he's actually very surprised because it feels like the presence just appeared. He turns away from the river, surveying the beach and scanning the people gathered around. He doesn't summon Excalibur on account of the innocents, but he's prepared to if it proves to be necessary. ]

She laughs a little. "See, I wouldn't lock you up. I'd just let you keep talking and try and convince you to write a book or something. See i I can't get you to make it big as a sci-fi author."

"It probably is," she admitted. "But I do. I mean, I know she wouldn't be thrilled or anything but..." But it would be nice to have her there.

She considers something for a moment, then offers him a smile. "Hey, you wanna, I don't know, be my backup hugger or something? Like, if it looks like either of us aren't getting enough affection in this place, we go to each other? I'm cool if you don't want to but....If you meant something to Toby, it's the east i can do."

His eyes darkened, and turned more distant. He'd been alone in this perilous place, then. And Thranduil had not protected him. Legolas was no longer a child, and was more than capable of defending himself - he was one of the most capable warriors in Mirkwood, despite his relative youth when compared to some others of the elves. Thranduil, however, was more than just his father, he was his king. It was his duty to protect the people of his land, and clearly he had failed.

He inclined his head in acknowledgement of the statement, but did not make another gesture. He felt very, very old, and his eyes showed it. Long had he lived, and through many hardships. He had not wished that for his son.

[ Finally, she scores a hit, but at this rate her magic's already wearing thin and to be quite frank the muscles in her legs feel like jello, but she can't allow herself to cast doubt, as that is the seed of defeat. It takes Shanoa but a moment to close the distance yet again, hands shimmering with crackling purple electricity when Soma whips out what damn well could've been Excalibur. Needless to say, it's enough to stop her dead in her tracks.

How the heck was Dracula capable of holding a blade that shone with such an obviously Holy light? And furthermore, where did he even get the thing? Well. One fact is for certain: she doesn't particularly wish to chance dodging a stroke from such a monstrous blade, nor does she have the strength or mental capacity to generate a weapon capable of matching its calibur - which, coupled with her confusion, urges the former executioner of Ecclesia to stand down. For now. ]

My time is essential. It would behoove you to explain. Quickly.

Option 4

[ The aura coming off of the other Servant is twice as powerfully dark to Saber, and he's already woven his armor around him because of it, Excalibur with Invisible Air bound to it in hand. He cautiously approaches the man while he watches him succumb to his affliction and the only reason Saber thinks he knows what it is that ails him is because he's seen symptoms like his before. ]

I can't imagine you're particularly friendly to the others, so that would explain what the problem is.

[She doesn't try to explain the process verbally-- that's just not the way Li Mei works. Instead, she does each step slowly, pausing after each one to worriedly look over at the other's crane in case he didn't understand.]

Really?

[Her face lights up at the suggestion. She's not that excited about meeting her quota, but rather that someone's actually taking her up on her offer, even if it is only because they feel bad for her. ]

Um, then...

[Eagerly, she gestures at the two options on her sign, as if asking which one he wanted.]

[Yeah, wet princess who looks more like a wet cat. It's not the idea of getting wet that has her a little miffed but the fact that she's not wearing clothes meant to get wet. Ok, don't get annoyed at the new version of one of those redheads, it's not his fault.]

It surprised me.

[Also known as 'I need extra clothes' except they're in her room. Great.]

I think I'll have to follow your advice. [He knows his limits. He sometimes tries to ignore them, but he knows them, and he needs to go rest somewhere.]

"And it has been given," he told her, still almost with an edge of resentment, or pride, but it was no good, and he forced himself to let it go. "But all peoples must face their trials in their time and place."

He smiled a little, wistfully.

"And, little one, that was why I was concerned. For how am I to fight it when I am here?"

[What does he want? He thinks about all the time he spent wanting to kill the person he used to be, to save himself from what he became. But, if he reasons farther back than that— Kiritsugu—]

[It's not a thought would have ever occurred to him before—this, but he isn't perturbed by it now. That fact makes him want to laugh, bitterly, and when his expression shifts, it's more of a grimace than a smile.]

A lot of things. Nothing. [This time, he does tell him:] If you value your life, you should leave.

I don't know how good I am at it, but it's not gonna stop me from trying!

[She smiles reassuringly, happy the boy's interested.]

Hmm.... but what kind of story should I tell?

[Fortunately, Richard specializes in learning skills by watching his friends! No, seriously, it's part of his moveset. He has an easy time following along her steps to making a proper paper crane.]

The prince watched his father carefully, watched the change in his expression, in his eyes. It hurt him to see that look in his fathers, his kings, eyes. He'd had enough in his life to worry about until now, without the thoughts of the tower that Legolas had.

He reached out with his free hand, laying it on Thranduil's shoulder and giving a soft squeeze.

"Do not worry for me. What happened was outside of even Iluvatar's control. I endured and adapted to survive, kept safe those that I could. Until we could find a way to get home."

A hug would be most beneficial to both of us, wouldn't it? [he doesn't really have any stories to share, besides.]

[Li Mei eases up a little with each step as she realizes that he's doing fine, and he actually manages to finally get a smile out of her when they finish-- she's impressed he managed to make such a nice crane despite her not that helpful instructions.]

[Diarmuid's eyes light up as he makes a connection in his mind.]

So kind of like when father tells me the things I need to learn to be a proper knight and help people? We just started doing that this year. And I just started learning how to use a sword! It's so much fun! Father says if I keep learning as fast as I am, I can start working with a spear soon too!

[The boy is very glad with Kerry doesn't right out reject going out to explore. After all, while Kerry might have had the chance to map things out already, Diarmuid has not.

That may or may not have to do with him being scared of so many of the modern machines he has seen around.

However, he doesn't think about those fears right now. Instead, he looks up at the other boy with amusement in his eyes.]

Is everything research to you? How about eating? Is it research?

[Secretly, she'd rather have the story but she's not going to tell that to her first customer.]

[She kind of just. Holds her arms out and stares at him questioningly for a moment to check again that he's okay with this.]
