Test Drive Meme!

Welcome to the Rekindle Test Drive!
Trying to see if a character will fit or work in the setting? Need some interaction samples? Well this meme is for you!

Make a post, tag around, and most importantly, have fun! Here's the setting page for those who want to learn a little more about the city itself.

Then don't forget to go reserve your character in a week when they open.

Here's some prompts to help you get started, if you need it:
Option 1
[While the days grow longer and warmer and the older, oriental-style of the city would normally make one think that the interiors would not be much in the way of relief from the hot sun, it may surprise the guest to see that the apartments the natives have allocated for them are surprisingly comfortable. In fact, the only modern convenience they may be missing is a television set! At least, outside the media floor on the first floor of Building One - the first of four inter-connected buildings.

In fact, each apartment building seems to have at least one different amenity on the first floor. In Building Two they seemed to even spare a library in another that seems to have the basics and some information packets that are otherwise found in the Welcome Center in District 2. There are even a few restaurants and common dining areas in the Building Three that are open until late at night, and meeting areas and a ballroom on the first floor in Building Four, perfect for setting up small parties or big events.

With the locals gone save those who work in the restaurants and the one librarian, leaving you to your own devices, what will you do? What mysteries could be left to discover in this place?]
Option 2
[With summer coming, the water level in the river is starting to go down, exposing some of the beach. The Riverside Shack is open late, and its restaurant is pulling out all the stops and offering seafood specials (even though a river is a far cry from an ocean). The rental store, meanwhile, is finally bringing out more of its swimming supplies, inner tubes and pool noodles, and a calmer stretch of the river has been roped off with buoys for swimming. They even have lifeguards chairs set up. Clearly this sort of thing used to be an annual event.

It's not quite an ocean beach (quite different actually), but there's still plenty of chance to have fun in the water. Or teach someone to swim, perhaps.]
Option 3
[If you're more inclined to explore or learn, the City's Learning Center might be more to your tastes. There certainly seems to be a lot going on here - there's laboratories and libraries and workshops, and plenty of communal areas where you can meet and talk with people. The natives seem pretty absorbed with their studies and work, though they're polite in brushing you off, at least.

Perhaps you'll have more luck seeing what other Guests such as yourself have discovered?]
Option 4
[Whoops. Looks like you haven't taken the cautionary words of the other NPCs to heart, or maybe you just wanted to take your chances. Either way, the withdrawal symptoms have started and you need to find someone to hug quickly before you get even more sick.]
Option 5
[If there's something else you wanted to play with, that you didn't see here, then have fun with that. You've just arrived in a strange city, after all. There's got to be plenty to explore out and about, not to mention people to meet.]

Option 4
[You do not want to hug this man.]

[No, really, you don't. The feeling that hangs around him is one that induces dread, a sense of malice and hate strong enough to nearly have physical weight to it. Of course, he doesn't exactly want to hug you, either, which...is not going too well for him, what with the violent chills and the nausea. He can't even look up too sharply without feeling his vision swim, which only serves to make him angrier, about everything.]

[It also makes him less aware of his surroundings. Wherever you want to go, he's in your way, head bowed where he leans against the nearest convenient object or surface.]

Option 5
[One way or another, Archer has made his way past the city gates. Such an obvious place to investigate... Of course he couldn't simply ignore it without giving it so much as a cursory glance.]

[Now that he's here, though, he finds his thoughts dwelling on the way a desolate, rundown place like this suits him much better than the city behind him. His "investigation" is one of unfocused wandering, and maybe his demeanor even seems a little melancholy.]
smallspot: Dia-Pika Boy (Pika Boy)

Option 4

[personal profile] smallspot 2013-05-17 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
[A pair of large golden eyes blink up at Archer. While the aura hanging around the man is scaring him, the boy can also tell one important thing about him: he is sick and Diarmuid's father always told him he need to help those who were sick. Slowly, as to not startle the sick man, he approaches, reaching out a small hand to touch the man's arm.]

Lord? You should sit down. You look ill. Is there something I can get for you?
blackenedideals: (those who have seen the needle's eye)

[personal profile] blackenedideals 2013-05-17 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[Archer looks at the hand on his arm as though it's something completely foreign. A second or two passes before his gaze shifts to the child attached to it. What is it with children and ignoring their natural instincts? It irritates him, but then again, so do most things now. At least he doesn't have any connection with this one.]

You should worry about yourself.
smallspot: Dia-Glow (Glow)

[personal profile] smallspot 2013-05-17 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
But I'm not the sick one, Lord.

[Diarmuid lightly rubs the man's arm.]

You are the sick one and father always told me to help others before myself. Especially sick people. Did you eat something bad? Should I get you a drink?
blackenedideals: (now tread like a husk)

[personal profile] blackenedideals 2013-05-18 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[...Nope, not doing this. He reaches down, and—snags Diarmuid by the back of his shirt, lifting him up as though he were a particularly doe-eyed kitten. Maybe he'll find a shelf too high for him to easily climb down from and stash him there.]

Learn to be a little more discerning about the advise you follow.
smallspot: Dia-Big Grin (Big Grin)

[personal profile] smallspot 2013-05-19 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
[Contrary to the reaction Archer might be expecting, Diarmuid just giggles, those wide doe-like eyes scanning the area he can see a lot better now that he's up in the air. One of his hands reaches back to find Archer's as if he is trying to make sure the man has a good hold and won't drop him, while the other shades his eyes as he looks around.]

This is fun! I can see so much more now!

[He looks over at the other man seeming to forget he is sick and points to his shoulders.]

If you wanted to help me look around that would be a more comfortable perch! I'm not that heavy. People carry me around all the time. See! You are already lifting me even though...

Oh, right! You are sick! We need to fix that first. But why wouldn't I want to take father's advice? He's a god! He knows best!
holyswordwielder: (♔ we've goт a long long way тo coмe)

Option 4

[personal profile] holyswordwielder 2013-05-17 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
[ The aura coming off of the other Servant is twice as powerfully dark to Saber, and he's already woven his armor around him because of it, Excalibur with Invisible Air bound to it in hand. He cautiously approaches the man while he watches him succumb to his affliction and the only reason Saber thinks he knows what it is that ails him is because he's seen symptoms like his before. ]

I can't imagine you're particularly friendly to the others, so that would explain what the problem is.
blackenedideals: (for whom it is reserved)

[personal profile] blackenedideals 2013-05-17 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[As he is now, ill and with his abilities unreliable, Archer is not in a state to fight another Servant. But, of course, just like a wild animal, his hackles still raise at the presence of an enemy, regardless of his handicap. He stands straighter, and though he holds no weapon himself, his posture tenses.]

Maybe. [He tries to sound casual, or at least as casual as something like him can. He shrugs a shoulder dismissively.] I'll be fine.

[shut up Archer you're going to die of not getting enough hugs]
heroofjustice: (Default)

4, haha I had to tag you again

[personal profile] heroofjustice 2013-05-17 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[Kerry, on his way back from exploring, is heading toward the restaurant for some much-needed nourishment. He stops short as he sees who it is blocking the hallway. That man again. His first impulse is to turn right around and leave, but the man looks to be in pain, so he hesitates. He doesn't like to see people in pain.

He shouldn't care if he's sick if they're enemies, should he? If this man is evil. Yet he's still curious about him, and you should know your enemies, shouldn't you? ...he'll probably regret this.
]

Are you okay?

[He'll run if he has to.]
blackenedideals: (those who have seen the needle's eye)

[personal profile] blackenedideals 2013-05-17 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[Even though he has only heard this voice at this particular pitch once before, he recognizes it immediately. For him, it's not one that would be easy to forget. He straightens slowly when he looks to Kiritsugu, so as to not throw himself off-balance again.]

You really don't have any sense of self-preservation, do you. [It's not a question, because he doesn't really need to ask. That fact makes him unhappy (and angry, but some days he thinks it would be easier just to note what doesn't make him angry), and he frowns.]
heroofjustice: (Default)

[personal profile] heroofjustice 2013-05-18 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I do.

[He knows he does (even if not the greatest sense of self-preservation). He'd run away back on the island. He'd been scared and had wanted to save himself. He doesn't want to die. He feels scared now, but he makes himself stay.]

You've got that sickness people get here, don't you?

[Maybe now that he's weaker, Kerry can find out something more about him? Or is that a dumb idea? It's probably a dumb idea, Kerry.]
blackenedideals: (please)

[personal profile] blackenedideals 2013-05-18 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
Then I'd suggest you use it.

[His frown deepens, but his expression is different than the kind he wore the last time the last time they spoke. His thoughts are scattered by his illness, and so his anger is unfocused, which probably benefits no one but Kiritsugu.]

[This is probably still a dumb idea, though.]

Maybe I do. What of it?
heroofjustice: (Default)

[personal profile] heroofjustice 2013-05-18 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
[Kerry doesn't say anything to the first comment. The man is probably right, and he should go. But the very fact that he's warning him off makes him more curious. Why would he do that if he wanted to hurt him? Yet at the same time, he's threatened his life, so he clearly does want to hurt him. It's confusing. He wishes he knew the story behind it. He doesn't like not knowing things, not when they could be dangerous.

How does this person know him?
]

You've got to do something about it, or it'll get worse.

[He doesn't go so far as to offer his help. He's honestly afraid of what the stranger might do if they were in contact. He's still maintaining his distance. He can see why the man's having a problem, because who would want to hug him?]

What's your name?
blackenedideals: (to have to always feel this way)

[personal profile] blackenedideals 2013-05-18 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[That statement doesn't receive a proper reply. Instead, Archer responds with a dry, humorless laugh. Yes, the source of his problem is obvious, and there's not much to be done for it now.]

[But at least Kiritsugu doesn't offer to help him. Archer really might have killed him right there, if he were actually that stupid.]

Archer.

[Wow, look at that. He gave a (more or less) straight answer to a question.]
heroofjustice: (Default)

[personal profile] heroofjustice 2013-05-19 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
[Kerry might be rash and unwise at times, and he might believe in helping people, but he's not that foolish. He can feel that aura and the unpleasant power radiating from the man, pushing him away. He can't bring himself to get any closer.

Archer. That doesn't tell him much, but it's something. He wishes Natalia were here. She would probably know what to do.
]

How do you know me?
blackenedideals: (and the masks that the monsters wear)

[personal profile] blackenedideals 2013-05-19 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
I know what you become.

[Telling Kiritsugu much or in helpful ways doesn't seem to be on Archer's agenda, unfortunately.]
heroofjustice: (Default)

[personal profile] heroofjustice 2013-05-19 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
[Having met people from the ancient past, Kerry doesn't find it too strange that someone might have come from the future, though it's odd to think that this is someone from his future, somehow. It makes him even more curious. Curiosity is not always a good thing.]

What do I become?

[He hopes it's not something bad, but he wouldn't do anything bad, would he? He just wants to help people.]
