Welcome to the Rekindle Test Drive! Trying to see if a character will fit or work in the setting? Need some interaction samples? Well this meme is for you! Make a post, tag around, and most importantly, have fun! Here's the setting page for those who want to learn a little more about the city itself. Then don't forget to go reserve your character in a week when they open. Here's some prompts to help you get started, if you need it: Option 1 [While the days grow longer and warmer and the older, oriental-style of the city would normally make one think that the interiors would not be much in the way of relief from the hot sun, it may surprise the guest to see that the apartments the natives have allocated for them are surprisingly comfortable. In fact, the only modern convenience they may be missing is a television set! At least, outside the media floor on the first floor of Building One - the first of four inter-connected buildings. In fact, each apartment building seems to have at least one different amenity on the first floor. In Building Two they seemed to even spare a library in another that seems to have the basics and some information packets that are otherwise found in the Welcome Center in District 2. There are even a few restaurants and common dining areas in the Building Three that are open until late at night, and meeting areas and a ballroom on the first floor in Building Four, perfect for setting up small parties or big events. With the locals gone save those who work in the restaurants and the one librarian, leaving you to your own devices, what will you do? What mysteries could be left to discover in this place?] Option 2 [With summer coming, the water level in the river is starting to go down, exposing some of the beach. The Riverside Shack is open late, and its restaurant is pulling out all the stops and offering seafood specials (even though a river is a far cry from an ocean). The rental store, meanwhile, is finally bringing out more of its swimming supplies, inner tubes and pool noodles, and a calmer stretch of the river has been roped off with buoys for swimming. They even have lifeguards chairs set up. Clearly this sort of thing used to be an annual event. It's not quite an ocean beach (quite different actually), but there's still plenty of chance to have fun in the water. Or teach someone to swim, perhaps.] Option 3 [If you're more inclined to explore or learn, the City's Learning Center might be more to your tastes. There certainly seems to be a lot going on here - there's laboratories and libraries and workshops, and plenty of communal areas where you can meet and talk with people. The natives seem pretty absorbed with their studies and work, though they're polite in brushing you off, at least. Perhaps you'll have more luck seeing what other Guests such as yourself have discovered?] Option 4 [Whoops. Looks like you haven't taken the cautionary words of the other NPCs to heart, or maybe you just wanted to take your chances. Either way, the withdrawal symptoms have started and you need to find someone to hug quickly before you get even more sick.] Option 5 [If there's something else you wanted to play with, that you didn't see here, then have fun with that. You've just arrived in a strange city, after all. There's got to be plenty to explore out and about, not to mention people to meet.]

Ah... then I suppose mine has been given away by now then. I haven't been there in... weeks!

[ he smiled, slightly embarrassed by the faux pas. ] I suppose I should find another room, but I haven't quite settled in just yet. Not many people want to hire a music box maker.

[ and Jack hasn't really tried. He's always been good at improvising when he's needed to bend. ]

Hmm... then shall we simply go somewhere for tea and cake? You can tell me all about what you've done since entering this city. After all, it's not good to avoid everyone in this city. You might get sick.

Oswald... [ as soon as she'd said it, she connected it. it was a name heard more from the time she was taken--a name said in ways as if everyone understood what kind of person he really was. no one did, not really.

but adjusting the groceries in one arm, she offers the other to jack. free to let her support him ]

Well of course it's something he wouldn't like--he's too proper to frivolously do such things.

[Shinji's only reaction to his kind smile seems to be mild confusion. But really, he's curious... this treatment isn't what he'd been used to before coming here, at least not from anyone but Kaworu, and it's honestly nice.]

...It's fine. [he glances at him, and then back to his hands.] What's the project?

... Thank you, master. I always hope to hear such words from you. [ oops. that was a little too much, wasn't it? but it made no difference, not for the moment. that gentle squeeze and the very warmth radiating from his hand was something far more distracting ]

Are you doing well? Having difficulties in this strange world?

[really, she may as well have just slapped him, because that's how it feels and that's how he reacts. he curls up a little where he sits, bowing his head and covering his unplugged ears with his hands.]

That... that's not her. That isn't Ayanami! That's not my Ayanami! You'd never understand. Nobody does. Just leave me alone!

[ but this bullheaded punk was Oswald's best friend. He could hardly let Oswald be anymore then oswald could him. It had taken years to build up that trust.

Carefully, slowly, Jack ducked his head down to look up into Oswald's eyes, seeking past the fringe that often covered them. ] It is important, if you haven't been taking care of yourself. We should look out for each other, after all, dear friend.

[ and then Jack smiled, partially closing his eyes in utter guilelessness. Nope, not the tiniest bit suspicious of what Oswald's keeping back from him. ]

[ but there's a gap between them still -- a beat where Vincent once might have leaned over, passed fingers over his sleeve, tucked back a loose lock of hair. if this were anybody else. his fingers curl. ]

Your tastes haven't changed, have they?

[ he gladly takes the hand, waiting for her to lead him towards her humble abode. Would there be clothes flung in every corner or draped across the furniture? Or, would the rooms be cleaned perfection? He rather thought Lottie would tend towards the former. She showed a good game, but she liked things rough. ]

Ah... but would he do them at all if he were without his friends and loyal companions? We shouldn't let him fade away to nothing if we can. You would help him, wouldn't you?

[ He still remembers her fierce loyalty towards Oswald, her Glen. Such abuse was not easily forgotten. ]

[ Jack immediately looked apologetic, scratching at his chin. ]

You really do remember everything don't you? No, they haven't changed.

[ it was pretty clean, she had no reason to have this and that strewn about--but jack. jack. why do you have to pick on her delicate feels? just the thought of it made her go red in the face, trying to look away as she continued ]

O-of course I would! That is to say--if he wanted-- [ jack, don't make her go violent on you right here. she's actually feeling a little bad for you ]

Being this dependent on physical contact scares me.

[ are they walking to the shops? Vincent turns towards a path, just slack enough in his step to be a lead. ]

What luck it is. I know a tea shop that sells little tangerine cakes.

[ he doesn't mind; a tiny little beating and a cuddle in the dark will cure him up just fine. ]

I thought you might. [ he leaned on her a little bit more, heavy and dragging his weight. ] You'll let me know if you find him, won't you?

[ she would, wouldn't she? they were all comrades in arms in this place, linked by a common goal. Without Oswald, there was nothing. Without Lacie... He had to find a way back. ]

It all depends on what exactly you want to know first and then work your way up from there.

Actually, he does have an idea but it may not mean much. Just a stepping stone to the overall goal in mind.

I could entertain the idea of letting you know... [ she honestly probably wouldn't keep it from him. despite everything she knows there's a connection between the two, and her master--oswald would probably be none too happy.

Raine is an adult. That is why he talks to her like an adult about adult subjects, like dying.] I doubt that a normal doctor would be helpful. Most doctors do not have patients who have been twenty-eight for longer than a year.

But isn't Chlorine in water anyway? I remember everyone in the facility had to drink bottled water for a while because something went wrong with the mix.

[Yeah, the question was a little tactless but Mami doesn't take any offense from it. It does surprise her for a moment before she lets out laugh, tittering behind her free hand.]

Unfortunately, she does miss the smile--she hasn't been looking directly at his face very much since they started holding hands. If this is his response, though, she won't try to force him to change his mind (which would probably be an exercise in futility, anyway).
