Test Drive Meme!

Here's some prompts to help you get started, if you need it:

Option 1

[While the days grow longer and warmer and the older, oriental-style of the city would normally make one think that the interiors would not be much in the way of relief from the hot sun, it may surprise the guest to see that the apartments the natives have allocated for them are surprisingly comfortable. In fact, the only modern convenience they may be missing is a television set! At least, outside the media floor on the first floor of Building One - the first of four inter-connected buildings.

In fact, each apartment building seems to have at least one different amenity on the first floor. In Building Two they seemed to even spare a library in another that seems to have the basics and some information packets that are otherwise found in the Welcome Center in District 2. There are even a few restaurants and common dining areas in the Building Three that are open until late at night, and meeting areas and a ballroom on the first floor in Building Four, perfect for setting up small parties or big events.

With the locals gone save those who work in the restaurants and the one librarian, leaving you to your own devices, what will you do? What mysteries could be left to discover in this place?]

Option 2

[With summer coming, the water level in the river is starting to go down, exposing some of the beach. The Riverside Shack is open late, and its restaurant is pulling out all the stops and offering seafood specials (even though a river is a far cry from an ocean). The rental store, meanwhile, is finally bringing out more of its swimming supplies, inner tubes and pool noodles, and a calmer stretch of the river has been roped off with buoys for swimming. They even have lifeguards chairs set up. Clearly this sort of thing used to be an annual event.

It's not quite an ocean beach (quite different actually), but there's still plenty of chance to have fun in the water. Or teach someone to swim, perhaps.]

Option 3

[If you're more inclined to explore or learn, the City's Learning Center might be more to your tastes. There certainly seems to be a lot going on here - there's laboratories and libraries and workshops, and plenty of communal areas where you can meet and talk with people. The natives seem pretty absorbed with their studies and work, though they're polite in brushing you off, at least.

Perhaps you'll have more luck seeing what other Guests such as yourself have discovered?]

Option 4

[Whoops. Looks like you haven't taken the cautionary words of the other NPCs to heart, or maybe you just wanted to take your chances. Either way, the withdrawal symptoms have started and you need to find someone to hug quickly before you get even more sick.]

Option 5

[If there's something else you wanted to play with, that you didn't see here, then have fun with that. You've just arrived in a strange city, after all. There's got to be plenty to explore out and about, not to mention people to meet.]

[Cu Chulainn stops and floats in front of Diarmuid.]

Sure, I'll practice with you. Let's see...did you know you can turn backflips really easy in water?

You can?

[Diarmuid's eyes grow wide with excitement.]

Show me! Show me!

[He takes a deep breath and rears back, going into the water headfirst. A few seconds later, he pops out of the water again.]

Told you it was easy.

Wait! Wait!

[He giggles.]

That was too fast! I need you to do it again so I can see all I have to do!

[Actually, he mostly just wants to see the other boy do the trick again, but...]

[He repeats the trick. Try as he might, he goes just as quickly as before.]

How about now?

[Fortunately for them both, seeing the same trick again is really all Diarmuid needs to to get the idea no matter now fast it is done.]

Okay, I think I have it! Let me try!

[Diarmuid takes a moment to think through what he has to do to complete the trick and then dives into the water. He doesn't back flip as smoothly as his friend does, but he does manage to pull it off. When he pops out of the water, he is grinning.]

Did you see me? I did it!

Yay! You did it!

[He throws his arms up in his excitement.]

Now we should both try flipping together!

[Diarmuid giggles, nodding with wide eyes.]

I don't know if I can do it as fast as you, but I want to try!

[He makes himself ready and then looks at the other boy.]

Just say when!

Okay, now!

[Without waiting for Diarmuid, he dives again.]

[Diarmuid dives in at the same time as the other boy, but because of his inexperience, this time he doesn't quite get the flip right and ends up twisting out of it and coming back up to the surface. Even though, he isn't able to do the trick this time, he's still smiling.]

Looks like I need to practice this too. Do you know anymore tricks?

Hm...well, I'm learning how to dive now. I still have some trouble staying down, though.

I am sure you will get it soon! You are good at swimming!

[Diarmuid nods confidently. He seems about to say something else but then stops, suddenly very tired.]

I think I need to go back in now. Thank you for teaching me! If you want to keep swimming, I will watch you while I rest!

...I think I'll go back up with you. Maybe you can show me things to do on land. Just like I showed you things in the water.

[It's been some time since he was able to play so long with a child his age. This city was so big that he easily lost track of people. So he just wants to play with his new friend for as long as he could.]

[Diarmuid's eyes light up at the suggestion. He doesn't really want to leave his new friend yet either.]

That sounds like fun! I don't know what I can teach you, but I am sure we can find something. Do you know anything about using a sword yet? I just was starting to learn when I was brought here!

Wooooow! You can already use a sword? Teach me teach me teach me!

[Cu Chulainn grabs his friend's hand and pulls.]

[Diarmuid laughs and lets his friend pull him back toward the shore. Once they get there, he looks around for some sticks they can use as swords.]

Help me look for some sword sized sticks! Since we don't have actual weapons, those will have to do!

Alright!

[He runs off to look. After a while, he comes back with an entire uprooted sapling about as long as he is tall.]

[When Diarmuid sees his friend come back with the whole sapling, he can't help it. He knows it's impolite, but he starts laughing. In fact, he has to wrap his arms around his waist to keep himself stranding.]

I think that one is a little too big! Well, it would work for a spear I suppose, but I haven't gotten to start learning that weapon yet. Just swords!

[He points at the sand in front of them.]

Here, set it down here. I am sure we can find some branches that will work for swords. Do you even know what size you should have for a sword?

[He drops the sapling on the sand.]

Aren't weapons better the bigger they are?

[Diarmuid shakes his head and reaches out to ruffle the other boy's hair. He's only marginally successful because of how wet it is.]

Not always. Some weapons are better big, but we are just learning! Father says that we need well balanced weapons of our size so we learn the basics right. Without good basics, we will never master the weapon!

[He makes a face.]

Can't we skip the basics? Teach me some tricks.

[Diarmuid looks a little sad for a moment and then shakes his head.]

I can't. I don't know any tricks yet. I told you, I just started learning. Besides, basics are important! You can't do good tricks without them.

[His expression suddenly brightens as a thought crosses his mind.]

Quick! Lets go through the basics and then maybe together we can figure out how to do some tricks! I am sure you have watched people fight before.

[He giggles.]

Yes, I've seen them.

[With some effort, he snaps the sapling in half over his knee.]

Show me, show me!

[Diarmuid giggles at the other boy's excitement.]

Well, this is still a little big for me but it will do.

[He strips some of the small leaves and twigs off his.]

Clean it up a little like I just did and then start by holding it like this.

[Carefully, he places his hands on the 'hilt' of the 'sword' and waits for the other boy to do as he has.]

[He strips his section of the sapling clean and then taps his foot on the ground impatiently.]

Okay I cleaned it. What now?
