Test Drive Meme!

Welcome to the Rekindle Test Drive!
Trying to see if a character will fit or work in the setting? Need some interaction samples? Well this meme is for you!

Make a post, tag around, and most importantly, have fun! Here's the setting page for those who want to learn a little more about the city itself.

Then don't forget to go reserve your character in a week when they open.

Here's some prompts to help you get started, if you need it:
Option 1
[While the days grow longer and warmer and the older, oriental-style of the city would normally make one think that the interiors would not be much in the way of relief from the hot sun, it may surprise the guest to see that the apartments the natives have allocated for them are surprisingly comfortable. In fact, the only modern convenience they may be missing is a television set! At least, outside the media floor on the first floor of Building One - the first of four inter-connected buildings.

In fact, each apartment building seems to have at least one different amenity on the first floor. In Building Two they seemed to even spare a library in another that seems to have the basics and some information packets that are otherwise found in the Welcome Center in District 2. There are even a few restaurants and common dining areas in the Building Three that are open until late at night, and meeting areas and a ballroom on the first floor in Building Four, perfect for setting up small parties or big events.

With the locals gone save those who work in the restaurants and the one librarian, leaving you to your own devices, what will you do? What mysteries could be left to discover in this place?]
Option 2
[With summer coming, the water level in the river is starting to go down, exposing some of the beach. The Riverside Shack is open late, and its restaurant is pulling out all the stops and offering seafood specials (even though a river is a far cry from an ocean). The rental store, meanwhile, is finally bringing out more of its swimming supplies, inner tubes and pool noodles, and a calmer stretch of the river has been roped off with buoys for swimming. They even have lifeguards chairs set up. Clearly this sort of thing used to be an annual event.

It's not quite an ocean beach (quite different actually), but there's still plenty of chance to have fun in the water. Or teach someone to swim, perhaps.]
Option 3
[If you're more inclined to explore or learn, the City's Learning Center might be more to your tastes. There certainly seems to be a lot going on here - there's laboratories and libraries and workshops, and plenty of communal areas where you can meet and talk with people. The natives seem pretty absorbed with their studies and work, though they're polite in brushing you off, at least.

Perhaps you'll have more luck seeing what other Guests such as yourself have discovered?]
Option 4
[Whoops. Looks like you haven't taken the cautionary words of the other NPCs to heart, or maybe you just wanted to take your chances. Either way, the withdrawal symptoms have started and you need to find someone to hug quickly before you get even more sick.]
Option 5
[If there's something else you wanted to play with, that you didn't see here, then have fun with that. You've just arrived in a strange city, after all. There's got to be plenty to explore out and about, not to mention people to meet.]

[The 'finally' is silent, but he feels it anyway. He takes a moment, just cradling her and holding her like he's never done before. He has, of course, but the very last time he saw her... he wasn't really able to touch her.

He's alive again, he's solid and real, and she's just as beautiful as he remembered, and there is nothing about this moment that he would trade for anything else.

He runs a few fingers through her bangs, tugging them out of her eyes.]

Sorry to keep you waiting.

[Shaking some wet hair out of her face, Yuna smiles back with a nod.]

I'm glad there's somewhere here I can keep practicing.
theotherpromise: (not really)

you're good!

[personal profile] theotherpromise 2013-06-05 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[no no no no thanks tall vampire lady]

You haven't found out anything about why they're making us do this, huh? [He seems a bit miffed again.] It's weird enough that they already had rooms picked out for us here.
aworldwithoutyou: ({Kairi help})

[personal profile] aworldwithoutyou 2013-06-05 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
It is?

[You aren't the only one confused, Yuna.]

But I thought you were from Radiant Garden.

[Or, at least, that's what he had assumed. But he hadn't asked, so maybe he was wrong...

That still doesn't explain why she isn't a fairy anymore.]
mystorytoo: (Moment of Truth)

[personal profile] mystorytoo 2013-06-05 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[Radiant Garden... The name doesn't ring any bells.]

I'm sorry... it sounds like a beautiful place, but I've never heard of it before.

[Not anywhere in Spira at least. If he thought she was from there, that meant he probably wasn't from Zanarkand, but if that was the case, then... how did he know her?]

I'm not sneaking up on anything.

You're the sneaky one. Snuck up on me.

[No, he didn't.]

[When she responded his questions, he will look down, trying to understand the reason behind his abilities currently acting odd, but a weak, formal, smile will reappear. A piece of him was glad that the female Avatar was currently safe and unaffected unlike him. After all, what would happen if she lost control of her abilities?]

I'm glad to hear it. I would not wish this situation on anyone else with powerful abilities. It would not be wise to lose control of our abilities when there are those who do hold any type of special skills... [And he meant every word.

His attention will return to Korra as she asked her own questions. Surprise will be briefly seen on his facial features before he began to think of a response.]

Touched someone? [Give him a few moments to remember the words of the natives from the Welcome Center. That's right. They did explain over having to maintain physical contact with others to survive, was all he could ponder to himself.] ...then their explanation over our survival is accurate? [But, somehow, he did not feel comfortable in having to do any sort of physical activity with others. At least, it would feel odd to be affectionate to anyone, but his master.] When I first arrived to this world, someone was kind enough to hold my hand and help me up to my feet. I felt...almost like this when I first arrived...

[And his response to her question?] ...it has been a week, at most, since I last touched another soul.
aworldwithoutyou: ({this is awkward})

[personal profile] aworldwithoutyou 2013-06-06 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
You haven't?

[But how? Could this maybe be a different Yuna? But they seem so much alike, except for the clothes and the being human thing. Though she seems a lot less eager to go treasure hunting than the Yuna he knows, too.]

So you don't remember meeting me, either?

[Despite his best efforts (which don't help much, since Sora is terrible at hiding how he feels), he sounds a little disappointed.]
mystorytoo: (To Zanarkand)

[personal profile] mystorytoo 2013-06-06 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
[You're about three months too early, Sora. Or rather, Saeng Seong was.]

I'm... afraid not. I'm sorry.

[She really does sound it, head bowed apologetically. Or at least as much as she can without dipping it into the water.]
aworldwithoutyou: ({Look Up})

[personal profile] aworldwithoutyou 2013-06-06 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
No, it's fine! I mean, it's not like it's your fault.

[He sees that bowed head, feeling a bit guilty. She seems really sorry, even though she can't help not meeting him before. He didn't mean to make her feel bad!]

You just look a lot like the Yuna I met where I came from, and you have the same name and all...it's a little weird, actually. But it's okay if you're not!

[Making new friends is nice, too!]

[personal profile] lavenderglasses 2013-06-06 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
[artemis isn't the only one thinking along those lines. saralegui, however, is less interested in the immediate area -- beyond a cursory glance over the local maps to see if anything important jumped out at him, he'd been much more focused on the pages covering larger areas in hopes of finding something recognizable, something to better indicate where exactly they'd been dropped off, or where home is in comparison.

unsurprisingly, perhaps, nothing here covers much beyond the walls of the city, and it seems like there's absolutely nothing for miles past that. assuming these maps could be trusted, anyway, and he's hardly ready to take any information provided so freely here as a fact without first testing it.

but accepting that much does little to soothe the frustration of it all. glancing up upon hearing footsteps to see another person coming down the aisle, doubtlessly with similar intentions, he sighs and holds out the thick volume he'd just given up on.]

Good luck.

[personal profile] mystorytoo 2013-06-06 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
[It's a little hard to dispel the awkward, but Sora isn't doing a bad job. She lifts her head again and nods. He certainly seems friendly enough.]

It does seem strange.

[Very very strange. Though she supposed there could be stranger things out there.]

If I may, who are you?

[You have her at a bit of a disadvantage.]
aworldwithoutyou: ({Simple})

[personal profile] aworldwithoutyou 2013-06-06 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, right. My name's Sora!

[He smiles, moving around enough to keep afloat.]

Sorry about the mix-up before. It's nice to meet you, Yuna.

[Areas outside of the walls are certainly on Artemis' to-do list, but he can't except to know what's outside until he knows the inner city first. Walking around would probably serve the same purpose but, well, walking isn't his idea of entertainment. Fancy shoes and all.

He's about to reach for a book and pauses when his new companion speaks. It's possible this person is trying to prevent him from getting knowledgeable about the land, though it doesn't seem likely.]

I take it you've already done half the research for me.
lavenderglasses: (♣there are very few porny sara icons)

[personal profile] lavenderglasses 2013-06-06 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
If by that you mean "established that the material here is useless", then yes.

[he gestures loosely at the shelf behind him with the rest of the library's collection on this topic, all still available for perusal if you don't believe him. it's not so much that he cares about saving anyone else the trouble, after all. he mostly just wants to vent without coming across as whiny.]

Most of what's here could just as easily be learned by taking a walk around the city, and the rest is all conspicuously vague or barely touched upon at all. And given the guards at all the city exits, I have a feeling they don't want us looking into that part more directly.
goldcomplex: (Default)

[personal profile] goldcomplex 2013-06-06 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
[Vent away; Artemis would have likely done the same if their places were reversed. He frowns in irritation at the ideas of useless books and walking just to learn anything. To be fair, it's probably just karma.

Well, Butler's been pushing him to get more active. He might as well try to make his old friend proud, even if he isn't here with him right now.]

Wonderful. I suppose our captors can't be too awful if they're providing us a whole functioning city.
lavenderglasses: (♦bitch)

[personal profile] lavenderglasses 2013-06-06 07:26 am (UTC)(link)
A whole city, lodgings, food, a little welcoming committee to explain away the whole situation... They're certainly not the harshest kidnappers I've encountered, but one does have to wonder why they're attempting to keep us placated with such pleasant treatment and a bizarre cover story. If they aren't just throwing us all into cells or something, then there must be some truth to the claim that they need our cooperation, but there must be something deeper to it...

[leaning back in his seat and crossing his arms with a frown, it's starting to sound more like he's just thinking aloud. he's pretty used to having a quiet, ever-present bodyguard around himself though, so you can just blame that on his being a bit new to actually being on his own.]
goldcomplex: (swag)

[personal profile] goldcomplex 2013-06-06 07:51 am (UTC)(link)
[This new companion of his is certainly talkative, and Artemis is more than happy to follow along. This beats walking around town and listening to dozens of other people blabber out useless information. The more he can get in one setting, the better. He'd rather not stick around.]

Not the harshest kidnapper you've encountered? Not many people have the honor of saying that, though I can say I know what you mean. [The man must be important, then. How interesting. Perhaps their kidnappers were selective on who they took.]
lavenderglasses: (♦haha did you want to be taken seriously)

[personal profile] lavenderglasses 2013-06-06 07:59 am (UTC)(link)
[oho, this is an observant one. no one here seemed to have recognized him, and there were certain benefits to acting on an equal level with others that he'd like to hold onto for at least a little while longer, so...]

I meant more along the lines of in works of fiction and the like. [at least, between belias' careful guarding and his own abilities, he hadn't actually had much opportunity to see just how harsh most potential kidnappers would have been. but he adopts a smile anyway, giving the stranger a bemused look.] But I have to admit, you have me curious now.
goldcomplex: (ponder)

[personal profile] goldcomplex 2013-06-06 08:22 am (UTC)(link)
[That must be quite the interesting collection of fiction, if this man claims to be telling the truth. It's not Artemis priority though, so he'll drop it. At least this person seems to be on the same trail of thoughts as him.]

You've essentially said it yourself. This place is far too pleasant and convenient for a hostage situation. We're wanted for something, and we can't be in distress for it. It's a common practice - keep us as calm and unaware as possible, then they will strike when they think they've got us.

Though for a location as elaborate as this, I'd be surprised if they're going after our lives. It seems unnecessary.
lavenderglasses: (♦yeah so dad was kind of a douche)

[personal profile] lavenderglasses 2013-06-06 08:36 am (UTC)(link)
Their claim when we arrived was that "physical contact as a power source" story. They apparently require our willing cooperation, so they aren't likely to kill us, and actually attempting contact does produce a...soothing feeling of sorts, I suppose. So from all that, there certainly seems to be some truth to what they've said. The question is, how much?

[evidently, he's already given a great deal of though to that himself. the smile slips away again while he works through a few theories, a bit too distracted by the puzzle here and he situation as a whole to try juggling both this and keeping up appearances perfectly.]

At this point, I'd say there are a few possibilities. Perhaps they're being entirely truthful about everything they have said. They still have not answered every question, however, so it seems more likely that they're hidig something. If this contact system is indeed helping them in some way, then perhaps they're lying about the backlash that can occur if one doesn't cooperate? A scare tactic to help encourage those here into participating, if their requesting it alone isn't enough. Then there's the question of what exactly they're gaining through this system, and if they haven't been upfront about it because we would be opposed to helping if we knew...

[personal profile] goldcomplex 2013-06-06 08:59 am (UTC)(link)
[The idea of turning contact into a power source is utterly ridiculous in his mind. Unless their captors expect everyone in the city to wear generators at all times, Artemis can't see how it's possible.

Then again, he's proven the impossible before. There must be some secret behind it, and so help him, he's certain he'll find it.

Artemis doesn't respond for a moment, slightly taken aback at all the explaining his new companion is spilling out. It's not every day Artemis doesn't have to explain every single detail himself to less-than-observant people around him. Looks like he's found himself a possible reliable ally. What was it that Holly said? Friends by trauma? Something similar to that.]

We'd have to test their limits and see if there really is any truth to their tales - which is likely what they want us to do, though it seems we don't have any other leads right now. It's rather convenient for them, isn't it?
lavenderglasses: (♦blah blah blah politics)

[personal profile] lavenderglasses 2013-06-06 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[it does sound ridiculous. but that was the first thing he tested here, and it certainly had helped with the initial sick feeling upon arriving here. perhaps it's just a familiarity with magic that makes it easier for him to accept (but then, arty shouldn't have much of a problem with that either).

he really is talking a lot, unfortunately rather prone to that whole "villainous exposition" bit (hopefully without the "villainous" part these days), but he isn't exactly used to people inputting much at these moments, especially not anything useful. he looks back over his new acquaintance for a moment with honey gold eyes, cool and appraising, before smirking slightly.]

Test this backlash claim, you mean? Exactly what I was thinking. Are you volunteering?

Well there you go then! I know it sounds weird, but you really do need to touch people to get by here. [She holds out a hand to him.] I can help, if you want.
goldcomplex: (Default)

I'd prefer not to make myself the laboratory rat - but unless you can think of others more willing to volunteer for me, I may as well try it myself.

[Shame that Artemis hasn't run into anyone he knows here so far. Mulch would have been a great volunteer in this case.]
