Welcome to the Rekindle Test Drive! Trying to see if a character will fit or work in the setting? Need some interaction samples? Well this meme is for you! Make a post, tag around, and most importantly, have fun! Here's the setting page for those who want to learn a little more about the city itself. Then don't forget to go reserve your character in a week when they open. Here's some prompts to help you get started, if you need it: Option 1 [While the days grow longer and warmer and the older, oriental-style of the city would normally make one think that the interiors would not be much in the way of relief from the hot sun, it may surprise the guest to see that the apartments the natives have allocated for them are surprisingly comfortable. In fact, the only modern convenience they may be missing is a television set! At least, outside the media floor on the first floor of Building One - the first of four inter-connected buildings. In fact, each apartment building seems to have at least one different amenity on the first floor. In Building Two they seemed to even spare a library in another that seems to have the basics and some information packets that are otherwise found in the Welcome Center in District 2. There are even a few restaurants and common dining areas in the Building Three that are open until late at night, and meeting areas and a ballroom on the first floor in Building Four, perfect for setting up small parties or big events. With the locals gone save those who work in the restaurants and the one librarian, leaving you to your own devices, what will you do? What mysteries could be left to discover in this place?] Option 2 [With summer coming, the water level in the river is starting to go down, exposing some of the beach. The Riverside Shack is open late, and its restaurant is pulling out all the stops and offering seafood specials (even though a river is a far cry from an ocean). The rental store, meanwhile, is finally bringing out more of its swimming supplies, inner tubes and pool noodles, and a calmer stretch of the river has been roped off with buoys for swimming. They even have lifeguards chairs set up. Clearly this sort of thing used to be an annual event. It's not quite an ocean beach (quite different actually), but there's still plenty of chance to have fun in the water. Or teach someone to swim, perhaps.] Option 3 [If you're more inclined to explore or learn, the City's Learning Center might be more to your tastes. There certainly seems to be a lot going on here - there's laboratories and libraries and workshops, and plenty of communal areas where you can meet and talk with people. The natives seem pretty absorbed with their studies and work, though they're polite in brushing you off, at least. Perhaps you'll have more luck seeing what other Guests such as yourself have discovered?] Option 4 [Whoops. Looks like you haven't taken the cautionary words of the other NPCs to heart, or maybe you just wanted to take your chances. Either way, the withdrawal symptoms have started and you need to find someone to hug quickly before you get even more sick.] Option 5 [If there's something else you wanted to play with, that you didn't see here, then have fun with that. You've just arrived in a strange city, after all. There's got to be plenty to explore out and about, not to mention people to meet.]

[OOC: Just in case I missed anyone. Human Yoruichi available upon request, but more likely to appear around castmates who already know the secret. Yoruichi might be looking for 4's, but all are welcome to have a black cat cross his or her path.]

[Cats seem to stroll about like they own the town. While that's not the case for Yoruichi, there's definitely a mindset that the majority of the newbies in this place aren't going to survive without the cat there to go rub up on them and keep them marginally healthy. What would this town do without such a useful kitty? Curl up and die, no doubt.]

[As such, Yoruichi is on a mission to seek out those who look a little pale and under the weather. The cat has no intention to serve as a constant crutch, and those who repeatedly show signs of withdrawal are going to receive a stern lecture, and possibly a scratched face. If it breaks someone's brain to see a cat talk, so be it. Better than seeing them waste away because they think hugs are icky.]

[A...cat? Yuugi stared down at her and smiled. He liked animals and generally they liked him. He was something of a friendly boy all around.]

Ah, Kitty...Here Neko-chan. [He crouched down to her level, sticking his hand out to show he wasn't going to hurt her.]

[Hm. So this one happens to be Japanese. Interesting.]

[But not half so interesting as the spiritual aura radiating so brightly from inside of him. It feels as if there are two souls intertwined harmoniously. Yoruichi approaches as he beckons, for you know what they say about cats and curiosity.]

[Just before making contact, the cat sits, regarding Yuugi with a level stare.]

You're an interesting one.

[The cat's voice is scratchy and gruff, like an old man's. If that power leaking out of Yuugi is any indication, it's a likely bet he's seen weirder things than talking cats. As such, Yoruichi sees no reason NOT to speak.]

[It was largely true that while he possessed the puzzle he was not exactly as aware of his situation as it might seem. He has seen an amount of weird things since obtaining the Puzzle but it wasn't exactly on par with a cat that spoke.]

Neko...shabetta. Henna....

[He nearly yelped when the voice came from the cat. It's not everyday he comes across a talking cat, after all! Yuugi was mumbling to himself in Japanese but tried to recover. Given all the legends in Japanese folklore and their culture being steeped in mystical or magical aspects, you'd think he'd be used to things like this but he's still he's staring wide-eyed.]

A-ah....Ano...How come you can talk?

That's a rude question. Why can you talk?

[Yoruichi's tail curls around all four paws as the cat sits to peer up at Yuugi. Hm. Not quite the expected reaction, but so be it.]

[Mani is shyly walking around the strange city sticking close to the walls and generally avoiding open spaces. Being told she could go wherever she wants was a scary prospect instead of a comforting one, but curiosity was getting the better of her.

And then she saw a black cat. She tilted her head to the side, she's never seen anything quite like it before. Where she had come from it was all dog-like morphs like herself, and humans.

"H-hello?"

[Mani might not be familiar with cats, but Yoruichi is very much aware of a certain shinigami captain who bears a strong resemblance to Mani. They could be distantly related, for all Yoruichi knows.]

M'ow.

[The reply is a simple one, little more than an acknowledgment for now. This one seems nervous, but still in relatively good health, so there's no need for forced intervention just yet.]

[The fox still looks confused, even if she does seem less nervous.]

Can't you talk?

[The more Mani studies the strange creature the more it reminds her of a baby morph, even if it's unlike any morph she's seen before.]

Are you a baby?

[The fox starts to look around worriedly, if this was a baby the mother would be around here somewhere right?.]

That's a first.

[Yoruichi rises to all fours and stretches.]

Far more people expect me not to talk. Things must be quite different where you come from.

[The cat's voice is gruff, like an old man's. The cat doesn't seem particularly ancient, however.]

So long as you can handle it, we shall speak.

[madcuriosity]

[Alice was focused. And when Alice was focused, it was near impossible to break her of that focus. Right now? She was focusing on a beautiful black cat and she had every intention of holding, petting, and hugging that black cat. She was just behind it and in one fell-swoop she made to pick it up to cuddle.]

Ah! Heeere kitty kitty!

Rrow?!

[It isn't often that someone manages to get the drop on Yoruichi, but this time, Alice has succeeded, and Yoruichi is somewhat surprised...but not unduly alarmed. The cat is stiff when picked up, paws sticking outward at a comical angle with furry shoulders bunched up. It's just a child, so Yoruichi suffers the indignation...for now. If Alice were much older, or more malevolent in nature, someone's face would be very scratched right about now.]

Ah! I caught you! Well hello, Kitty! [Alice is grinning so wide she could give the Cheshire Cat a run for his money as she stroked the cat's fur and stroked behind the cat's ears.] Oh aren't you just the loveliest kitty! And so soft! [Yay cuddling with kitties, Alice's favorite past-time!]

[The child seems nice enough, so Yoruichi purrs. The cat isn't uncomfortable with this, and Alice is completely correct with her praise. Yoruichi is indeed lovely and soft, thank you very much. A whiskered face rubs against Alice's cheek.]

[Jamie is parked on a bench in the shade of an awning, observing everyone else going about their business and trying to get a feel for the place. As a member of the noble Hugs Are Icky clan, he perhaps hasn't been as diligent in meeting that particular need as he should be and is starting to suffer the consequences; being in the early stages, however, he isn't noticeably incapacitated yet. Still, he's happy the bench is there to sit on.

[Noting the black cat that's approaching him, he offers a profound greeting:]

H'lo.

[It's a fairly noncommittal noise, one that could be aimed at a fellow sentient or an ordinary housecat. He's familiar, now, with sapient beings of a variety of different species, including the feline variety, and he'd rather look a little stupid for talking to something that couldn't talk back than insult an actual person by treating them like a dumb animal.

Plus, he likes cats and maybe isn't entirely averse to drawing the nice kitty's attention.]

[ihascheezburger]

[Yoruichi pauses. The tip of the cat's tail twitches, gold gaze locked on the young man as he's silently studied for several seconds. Apparently the judgment is a positive one, because the tail goes up, and Yoruichi resumes wandering in Jamie's direction.]

M'row.

[He doesn't look or feel particularly ill, but that's not necessarily a tell. Besides, Yoruichi can spare thirty seconds of petting to meet the daily requirement should he need it.]

[Jamie smiles ever so slightly as the cat approaches and leans down to hold out a hand to it and rub behind its ears as soon as it's within reach. His tone, when he speaks up again, is a little less guarded, too - obviously this is just a regular old cat so he needn't feel silly opening up to it and asking inane questions, right?]

Hey there, cat. Where'd you come from, huh?

[ihascheezburger]

[Society is far more acceptable of people who talk to animals than to those who talk to themselves. Talk away, Jamie.]

Mrow.

[Just don't expect any intelligible replies for the moment, because Regular Old Cat. Yoruichi leans into the ear-skritching, purring with enjoyment.]

[There's something about this other cat- the burly grey tabby with the jade green eyes- that seems to radiate a commanding aura, even as he's lounging in a sunbeam, feeling too ill to move. He's also definitely magical, and smells sharply of pennyroyal and musk.

He lifts his head to eye the new arrival into his space (not his space? of course it's his space, what does he look like, a dog?) imperiously, despite the fact that he's sick as hell.]

You are no ordinary cat.

...An astute observation.

[Yoruichi decides not to pass by after all, the surprise evident only in the brief pause before speaking.]

But I could say as much for you. Why have you allowed yourself to grow ill?

[shadowroads]

I'm not much for cuddling. It's not an appealing activity.

[Unless it's with people (or cats) that he knows. Most of his physical contact otherwise is of the violent kind.]

[ihascheezburger]

I would think it more appealing than lying in a miserable heap, such as you are now.

[Yoruichi regards him with a sidelong glance.]

There are other ways to meet the requirements.

[ Well his brain certainly isn't going to break to see a talking cat. Or this cat in particular. In fact when he sees her sashaying down the street with that helpful but displeased look in her eye, he's pretty sure that he knows what she's up to. ]

Oh Yoruichi-san~ Does my favorite kitty-kitty need a hug~?

[ No, she doesn't, but that doesn't stop him from running down the street, arms wide before he (attempts to) scoops her up. ]

[Yoruichi's surprise is indicated as little more than a faint widening of the eyes. The cat is easily hoisted, because Urahara is quick, but his face remains unscratched because Yoruichi is (thankfully) accustomed to this. And purring. It's good to see one's best friend, even if Yoruichi could easily survive in such a place.]

I didn't expect to see you here.

*purr purr*

I'm rather surprised to see you here too, my little ball of fluff.

[ Why she doesn't scratch him more often, even he isn't entirely sure. However that doesn't prevent him from tucking her more securely in his arms and rubbing his nose against hers. ]

But I guess it could be worse.

[Best friends have certain benefits. An unclawed face is one of them.]

It always could be, which is why I don't bother dwelling on such things.

[His nose gets an affectionate lick.]
