Test Drive Meme!

Welcome to the Rekindle Test Drive!
Trying to see if a character will fit or work in the setting? Need some interaction samples? Well this meme is for you!

Make a post, tag around, and most importantly, have fun! Here's the setting page for those who want to learn a little more about the city itself.

Then don't forget to go reserve your character in a week when they open.

Here's some prompts to help you get started, if you need it:
Option 1
[While the days grow longer and warmer and the older, oriental-style of the city would normally make one think that the interiors would not be much in the way of relief from the hot sun, it may surprise the guest to see that the apartments the natives have allocated for them are surprisingly comfortable. In fact, the only modern convenience they may be missing is a television set! At least, outside the media floor on the first floor of Building One - the first of four inter-connected buildings.

In fact, each apartment building seems to have at least one different amenity on the first floor. In Building Two they seemed to even spare a library in another that seems to have the basics and some information packets that are otherwise found in the Welcome Center in District 2. There are even a few restaurants and common dining areas in the Building Three that are open until late at night, and meeting areas and a ballroom on the first floor in Building Four, perfect for setting up small parties or big events.

With the locals gone save those who work in the restaurants and the one librarian, leaving you to your own devices, what will you do? What mysteries could be left to discover in this place?]
Option 2
[With summer coming, the water level in the river is starting to go down, exposing some of the beach. The Riverside Shack is open late, and its restaurant is pulling out all the stops and offering seafood specials (even though a river is a far cry from an ocean). The rental store, meanwhile, is finally bringing out more of its swimming supplies, inner tubes and pool noodles, and a calmer stretch of the river has been roped off with buoys for swimming. They even have lifeguards chairs set up. Clearly this sort of thing used to be an annual event.

It's not quite an ocean beach (quite different actually), but there's still plenty of chance to have fun in the water. Or teach someone to swim, perhaps.]
Option 3
[If you're more inclined to explore or learn, the City's Learning Center might be more to your tastes. There certainly seems to be a lot going on here - there's laboratories and libraries and workshops, and plenty of communal areas where you can meet and talk with people. The natives seem pretty absorbed with their studies and work, though they're polite in brushing you off, at least.

Perhaps you'll have more luck seeing what other Guests such as yourself have discovered?]
Option 4
[Whoops. Looks like you haven't taken the cautionary words of the other NPCs to heart, or maybe you just wanted to take your chances. Either way, the withdrawal symptoms have started and you need to find someone to hug quickly before you get even more sick.]
Option 5
[If there's something else you wanted to play with, that you didn't see here, then have fun with that. You've just arrived in a strange city, after all. There's got to be plenty to explore out and about, not to mention people to meet.]

U-Um! Nice to meet you. I'm, um, Pilouette.

I totally get what you mean. This whole thing is like, way bizarre. I mean, sure life back home was kind of boring, but I'd take boring over this place any day.

Pilouette? Like, like pirouette? [She grins wryly.] Pouvez-vous parler français?

So what was it like back home, huh? ...And you should tell me the name of your hairdresser while you're at it.
ribbonbon: (Ahahaa...)

[personal profile] ribbonbon 2013-05-17 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
Oui! Je suis né en France! ...But I've mostly lived in the US, so I speak more English.

[She decides to try and avoid talking about her name. It's an embarrassing subject for her, after all.]

Back home it was...well...Normal. The city I lived in wasn't like, big but it wasn't small either. Like, it's so normal that I totally don't even know where to start!

A-And I don't have a hairdresser. My hair just like, kind of does this? I've tried all kinds of stuff to get it be normal, but it never seems to work out.

Wow, you're a real French girl? ...Like from France, I mean. I'm French, too, but like, Canadian French, you know?

"Pilouette", though: that's cute. Just don't get mad if I slip up and call you Pirouette or something, okay?

And so is your hair! Pssh. "Normal". I cannot get my hair to do curls at all.
ribbonbon: (:D)

[personal profile] ribbonbon 2013-05-20 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah! Like I said, though, I've lived in the US for like, way longer than I lived in France. I've never been to Canada, though! Is it true that everyone up there is like, super polite or is that just like a stereotype?

Don't worry, I won't get mad if you mess up my name. It's um, like, kind of a weird name anyway, I guess?

And you really don't think my hair is weird? Like, no matter what I try I can't make it straight! The last time I tried it like, totally wasn't pretty. Besides, I think your hair is like, totally cool! I mean, it's like one of those totally cool adult styles, you know?!

...

...Yeah. Yeah, we are super nice, all of us. I'm the sweetest ball of sunshine you'll ever meet. Actually, I should introduce you to this one guy I work with. If I'm polite, he's like... the royalty to my peasant. You'd love him.

[Vee should really stop grinning like that.]

An adult style? Really?

[Aha, now she stops. Now she's too busy looking kind of awed.]

...Well, thank you. Maybe super-straight hair does have some advantages over princess curls.
ribbonbon: (Oh snap!)

[personal profile] ribbonbon 2013-05-22 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
Like, for real? Is he really like, more polite than regular polite? ...Is he cute?

And like, a lot of business people have straight hair, right? 'Cause they're on the go all the time, but they still look super cool and professional. Plus, people with straight hair don't have to worry about it so much. Like, example?

[She gestures to her own hair.]

Since my hair is so curly it's always doing weird stuff, like getting super frizzy for no reason.

...

He's...

[Vee's carefully turning her head away. Pilouette seeing her expression would ruin the fun. Let's just hope the way her voice sounds strained isn't noticable, either.]

He's a real gentleman. Old... Old fashioned. Oh, yeah, he's [snerrrrk.] he's cute all right. You'd love him. He'd love you. I'll have to [wheeeeeze.] set you guys up sometime.

...

[Vee takes a second to compose herself before facing Pilouette again.]

So [ahem.] so straightening treatments don't work? You can't stop the dreaded "morning afro" when you wake up and it's humid?
ribbonbon: (Are you sure?)

[personal profile] ribbonbon 2013-05-25 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
[Pilouette wonders why she's turning away like that. She frowns just a little, because whatever it is Vee is doing, Pilouette sure she likes it. She decides to keep it to herself to avoid being rude, though.]

Well, it's not like he's in this place, right? Besides, I don't do blind dates. I've never even been on a regular date...

Well, I haven't done like...any chemical stuff. I get like, way too nervous with that kind of thing and I don't wanna end up like, melting my hair off or something. And the last time I tried a flatiron, I ended up burning the ends of my hair and it looked super gross.

And humid mornings are the worst. Like, when it's all humid like that, I have to use a ton of hair spray or mousse to get my hair to do anything besides freak out.

[Vee smiles just a little bit wider. It's a little terrifying.]

Actually, would you believe that he is? We were both sent here to, uh, investigate, but we're supposed to work separately and blah blah blah boring job things I shouldn't discuss, so, uh, how do you feel about blondes?

You burned your hair, though? You are either crazy or dedicated. Crazy dedicated to the cause of sexy straight hair.

I burnt my hair with a curling iron once, actually. My sister never let me forget it...
ribbonbon: (I need to think about this)

[personal profile] ribbonbon 2013-05-26 06:40 am (UTC)(link)
No waaaaay~! Even if you're not working together, it must be nice to have someone you know from home here...B-But, um, yeah, like, I don't have like, a preference about hair color or whatever, either way. Like, I didn't even really start meeting a lot of guys in general until I got here.

[Her cheeks go the tiniest bit pink. After all, a lot of them are pretty cute now that she thinks about it.]

W-Well, I am dedicated. I mean, I like to look nice, you know? If you don't look nice people start to say stuff, you know?
