Welcome to the Rekindle Test Drive! Trying to see if a character will fit or work in the setting? Need some interaction samples? Well this meme is for you! Make a post, tag around, and most importantly, have fun! Here's the setting page for those who want to learn a little more about the city itself. Then don't forget to go reserve your character in a week when they open. Here's some prompts to help you get started, if you need it: Option 1 [While the days grow longer and warmer and the older, oriental-style of the city would normally make one think that the interiors would not be much in the way of relief from the hot sun, it may surprise the guest to see that the apartments the natives have allocated for them are surprisingly comfortable. In fact, the only modern convenience they may be missing is a television set! At least, outside the media floor on the first floor of Building One - the first of four inter-connected buildings. In fact, each apartment building seems to have at least one different amenity on the first floor. In Building Two they seemed to even spare a library in another that seems to have the basics and some information packets that are otherwise found in the Welcome Center in District 2. There are even a few restaurants and common dining areas in the Building Three that are open until late at night, and meeting areas and a ballroom on the first floor in Building Four, perfect for setting up small parties or big events. With the locals gone save those who work in the restaurants and the one librarian, leaving you to your own devices, what will you do? What mysteries could be left to discover in this place?] Option 2 [With summer coming, the water level in the river is starting to go down, exposing some of the beach. The Riverside Shack is open late, and its restaurant is pulling out all the stops and offering seafood specials (even though a river is a far cry from an ocean). The rental store, meanwhile, is finally bringing out more of its swimming supplies, inner tubes and pool noodles, and a calmer stretch of the river has been roped off with buoys for swimming. They even have lifeguards chairs set up. Clearly this sort of thing used to be an annual event. It's not quite an ocean beach (quite different actually), but there's still plenty of chance to have fun in the water. Or teach someone to swim, perhaps.] Option 3 [If you're more inclined to explore or learn, the City's Learning Center might be more to your tastes. There certainly seems to be a lot going on here - there's laboratories and libraries and workshops, and plenty of communal areas where you can meet and talk with people. The natives seem pretty absorbed with their studies and work, though they're polite in brushing you off, at least. Perhaps you'll have more luck seeing what other Guests such as yourself have discovered?] Option 4 [Whoops. Looks like you haven't taken the cautionary words of the other NPCs to heart, or maybe you just wanted to take your chances. Either way, the withdrawal symptoms have started and you need to find someone to hug quickly before you get even more sick.] Option 5 [If there's something else you wanted to play with, that you didn't see here, then have fun with that. You've just arrived in a strange city, after all. There's got to be plenty to explore out and about, not to mention people to meet.]

"Hmm." Miles pressed his lips together, processing what Mani was trying to explain.

"If anything is to be believed here, I guess it's that we're all from different worlds," The skepticism in his voice was plain as day. "I'd wager you don't have the International Office of Paranormal and Supernatural Affairs where you're from."

"Paranormal and Supernatural?" Mani shook her head. "But I only know what's in the facility... Sunna might have heard of it if we do, but she's not here."

"Fair enough."

He looked out over the water, considering all that he'd seen over the past few days. Really, it was sort of a mess and not all the pieces fit together. The why bothered him. Why were they here.

"What are you, exactly?" He'd been holding the question back until she seemed a little less skiddish, but now was as good a time as any to ask.

"Sorry." Mani says feeling bad for not being able to give the answer she thinks Miles wanted to hear. So when he asks his next question Mani tries to make sure to give him the right answer.

"Shadowstalker oh eight beta." Mani answers before realising Miles might mean 'what' as in her Species not the project that made her. "Or vulpes velox homoformas ...Art said the layman's term is fox morph."

Mani isn't sure if giving three answers counts as the right anwer.

"Morph?" He inquired, tone curious. He was starting to get the impression from the way she was acting that whatever a fox morph was, was created. Somehow.

Mani nods holding her hands behind her back to stop her self talking with her hands, she'd gotten into trouble with that before in the past. "It's short for Anthropomorphic."

"I see."

He frowned slightly. There was something about the way she was acting that he didn't care for, but couldn't entirely place. Still, she kept answering his questions, he was going to keep pressing until told otherwise.

"So, a fox with human features...that's not entirely natural is it?" He peered down at her over the rim of his glasses. "You were made for this shadow project business?"

"Yes I was made." Mani was starting to feel unsure now. Miles wasn't reacting like any other human she spoke too. The more she explained the less satisfied he seemed to be.

"I was made by Dr Endymion and trained by Art Powell." Mani explained hoping this would get her out of whatever trouble she had somehow talked herself into. "Morphs have been around for several decades the first one in the UK was a present to the queen. He's a corgi named Prince."

"Oh, that's charming," His tone indicated he felt it was the opposite, however. He glanced at Mani once again, noting her discomfort. He really couldn't help but be blunt, however. "And if I could hazard a guess to say most of your lot are owned by humans?"

He couldn't change a single thing about her world, but here with that sort of naivety Mani could get herself into a real pickle. "Just remember this place isn't like that. I'd hate to see someone take advantage."

"Uh..." Mani nodded not sure if she should say anything else.

"I-it's not, all the rules are different and, and ..." Mani sighed looking down at the ground. "I wish Art was here."

Miles sighed quietly. It was obvious to him, at least, that she would need someone to look after her. "Where are you staying, Mani?"

Now there's a glimmer of caution in Mani's eyes, but it's not enough to overpower the ingrained habit of answering any question put to her honestly.

"Middle floor of the Guest Apartments." Mani admitted, it had the fewest people which made life easier for someone not used to being around many people. Everyone else either wanted the lower floors for easy access or the upper floors for the view. "Why?"

"By yourself?"

He pushed his glasses up on his nose, "You'll have to forgive my curiosity, but my job back home entailed looking after certain individuals with unusual abilities. I could do the same here."

"Yes." Mani said. "I'm okay on my own."

"You mean supernatural abilities?" Mani asked, confused. She didn't know what to do, Sunna told her that not all humans were as nice as Art and unlike the fennec she had no way to tell if Miles was one of the nice ones or not.

"Yes. Mediums, sensitives, whatever they might go by, if they even exist in your world."

He could only shrug, however. "Just give it consideration."

He was going to keep an eye in her regardless.

"I... I don't know what they are." Mani said hoping Miles would explain but not willing to actually ask.

"But I'm not supernatural." She explained.

"Well," He adjusted his glasses again out of habit, "Anyone with a sense beyond the normal five would be considered having a supernatural ability. Premonitions, telekinesis, communication with spirits, psychics, among other things. All of this falls under IOPSA's jurisdiction to monitor."

"As for myself, I am a Guide, someone who primarily works with extremely talented mediums to keep them from either hurting themselves if they push the limits of their abilities or others if they abuse said abilities." He glanced to Mani, seeing if she wanted to ask anymore questions.

Mani tilts her head to the side like a confused dog that almost sounds like...

"So, your a handler? Only for supernatural people instead of morphs?"

He didn't look too amused by the comparison, betrayed by the arch of his brow. He decided to play it off in a joking manner, even though that sense of humor was difficult to pick up on. "That's one way of putting it. Except we don't collar the mediums, even if some of them could use it."

Mani stands a little straighter at that almost taking Miles comment as an affront.

"Art has never had to use my collar."

The brow edged a little higher. "Aces, although I don't think it's going to matter here."

He really didn't care for the implication that Mani was somehow treated like property, as that was the impression he was getting from her.

"Well...no." The control isn't here for a start."Rules are different."

And yet here she'd been following them like she always did. But they were different, which meant if she didn't like this conversation she didn't have to stay her feeling uncomfortable if she didn't want to.

"No rules here saying I have to listen to you. Sir." Mani said clearly starting to get annoyed at Miles' attitude about her world. It was her world and she missed it.

"Miles," He corrected her lightly. "And no, you don't have to stay here and listen to me. In fact I highly encourage you to make your own choice about that. Not that I mind the company, of course, but I won't keep you if I'm being a bother."

Because she'd be making her own decisions at least.

And now Mani doesn't know what to do, if Miles had told her to stay she would have left, if he had tried to get her to stay she would have left, but giving her the choice took the wind out of her sails.

"I don't like how you keep acting like my home is bad." She said eventually sounding more like a moody child than a trailed and well behaved young morph.

"I don't agree with implied practices, true." He gave her a serious look, "But that's neither here nor there, good, bad, or indifferent it's how it seems things are set in your world. Trust me when I say my opinion matters very little."

He wasn't downplaying what he said for her sake, it was just the way he viewed things, and opinions were something that could be easily dismissed. "I imagine you'll hear all sorts of opinions while you're here, so I certainly hope you don't take them all to heart so quickly."
