Welcome to the Rekindle Test Drive!Trying to see if a character will fit or work in the setting? Need some interaction samples? Well this meme is for you! Make a post, tag around, and most importantly, have fun! Here's the setting page for those who want to learn a little more about the city itself. Then don't forget to go reserve your character in a week when they open. Here's some prompts to help you get started, if you need it: | | Option 1 | [While the days grow longer and warmer and the older, oriental-style of the city would normally make one think that the interiors would not be much in the way of relief from the hot sun, it may surprise the guest to see that the apartments the natives have allocated for them are surprisingly comfortable. In fact, the only modern convenience they may be missing is a television set! At least, outside the media floor on the first floor of Building One - the first of four inter-connected buildings.
In fact, each apartment building seems to have at least one different amenity on the first floor. In Building Two they seemed to even spare a library in another that seems to have the basics and some information packets that are otherwise found in the Welcome Center in District 2. There are even a few restaurants and common dining areas in the Building Three that are open until late at night, and meeting areas and a ballroom on the first floor in Building Four, perfect for setting up small parties or big events.
With the locals gone save those who work in the restaurants and the one librarian, leaving you to your own devices, what will you do? What mysteries could be left to discover in this place?] | | Option 2 | [With summer coming, the water level in the river is starting to go down, exposing some of the beach. The Riverside Shack is open late, and its restaurant is pulling out all the stops and offering seafood specials (even though a river is a far cry from an ocean). The rental store, meanwhile, is finally bringing out more of its swimming supplies, inner tubes and pool noodles, and a calmer stretch of the river has been roped off with buoys for swimming. They even have lifeguards chairs set up. Clearly this sort of thing used to be an annual event.
It's not quite an ocean beach (quite different actually), but there's still plenty of chance to have fun in the water. Or teach someone to swim, perhaps.] | | Option 3 | [If you're more inclined to explore or learn, the City's Learning Center might be more to your tastes. There certainly seems to be a lot going on here - there's laboratories and libraries and workshops, and plenty of communal areas where you can meet and talk with people. The natives seem pretty absorbed with their studies and work, though they're polite in brushing you off, at least.
Perhaps you'll have more luck seeing what other Guests such as yourself have discovered?] | | Option 4 | [Whoops. Looks like you haven't taken the cautionary words of the other NPCs to heart, or maybe you just wanted to take your chances. Either way, the withdrawal symptoms have started and you need to find someone to hug quickly before you get even more sick.] | | Option 5 | [If there's something else you wanted to play with, that you didn't see here, then have fun with that. You've just arrived in a strange city, after all. There's got to be plenty to explore out and about, not to mention people to meet.] |

Fon Master Ion | Tales of the Abyss | Option 4
And if the Fon Master was being quite honest, he himself wasn't all too comfortable with the idea of physical contact with individuals he was unfamiliar with. Whatever the reason, it all led up to Ion stumbling over his own feet and barely catching himself from falling completely.
As he forces himself to rest heavily against the wall of the building closest to him from where he was walking through the city, he tries to look on the bright side. At least this wasn't exactly an unfamiliar sensation. Ion was quite accustomed to being dizzy. Still, it was troubling.
Now, he had even more limitations than before. Even further restrictions upon his independence.]
HEY OU HEY
Have a redhead in your face, Ion, hands reaching out to support you without the slightest bit of hesitation. You're one of his little brothers, too.]
Hey, Seven? Ion? You okay?
[The nickname should be the first clue that not all is as it seems. The second is probably the long hair pooling over Ember's shoulders and somewhat ridiculous fluffy collar.]
no subject
He looks at the redhead, confusion written all over his face. Even more perplexing...Luke hadn't known Ion was a replica until after he had cut his hair. So how--and what was he wearing?]
L-Luke...?
[He didn't mean to stammer, and by his tone of voice it's clear he doesn't think that this is Luke at all. He simply...doesn't know who else it could be, as he has no other known options to choose from.
Even so, he doesn't flinch away or protest at the hands that have come out to support him. If anything, they're comforting.]
no subject
No, it's Ember, but whatever. Are you alright?
[He doesn't really wait for an answer before letting Ion's weight lean on him, however much the boy needs to help himself up.]
no subject
[Not that he's any less confused, himself, but he doesn't want to be rude. And he doesn't have a particularly long time to think about it before he's suddenly falling over like a tipped domino into Ember's fluffy-collared shoulder.
He couldn't help it--but of course, as soon as he's against the older teen, he makes an effort to stand up more on his own. At least this boy looks like Luke. That makes the whole ordeal feel less awkward.
Though, he's still embarrassed to have gotten to this point in the first place. Fortunately, it seems as if it won't take much time at all for his strength to return.
He smiles apologetically.]
I'll be okay. I apologize for the inconvenience [He pauses.]...but, um, if you don't mind me asking...how do we know each other?
[Ion was trying to figure out the connection. Obviously this Ember wasn't just a look-alike. He seemed to know Ion, after all, even though Ion couldn't say the same. But he hadn't heard of there being another replica...
In the end, it seemed the less painful option to just ask.]
no subject
[And thank you, Natalia, for having helped him figure this out earlier. Because same name problems everywhere.
Ember keeps his hands on Ion's shoulders to steady the other replica, just in case. It can't hurt, right?]
Are you from the Auldrant where "Asch" is one of the God-Generals?
[The name leaves a bitter taste in his mouth. It's wrong, except that apparently it isn't. No one should have to carry a name like that, especially not his original.]
no subject
Yes, he is. I take it...where you're from, he isn't?
[Not that Ion could quite imagine a world where Asch wasn't a God-General. If he had never taken that path...then where would that put Luke?]
no subject
My original was taken back to the manor after I was born. So I guess I'm technically the person you know as "Luke," but...
[Also very much not.]
I don't know why I feel this icon is appropriate? OTL
That counts for something. And it's enough for Ion to accept him for what he claims to be, without any further questions pertaining to his history.]
Well, whatever the case may be, it's nice to meet you, Ember. I'm sorry for the confusion, and that I'm not the same Ion that you know...[He smiles brightly.]...but I'm sure that we can be friends, too.
[It happened so easily between him and Luke, back in his Auldrant. So why not?]
no subject
Of course! I mean, hell, we're kind of brothers anyway...
[Replica siblings forever, right? It's not as though any of them have real families, aside from those who still have their originals - but Ion doesn't even have that, and Ember's pretty sure the original Ion wouldn't have treated the kid like anything resembling family anyway. Not after what was done to Sync and the other rejected replicas.
He squeezes Ion's shoulders a bit.]
no subject
[Ion feels his face flush and his heart jump at the word. His smile fades for just a second before renewing itself, still bright but maybe a bit more bashful.
He looks at one of the hands on his shoulders, then back up at Ember's face.]
I've never...been called that before.
[Though, for the life of him, he couldn't remember ever receiving a title that made him happier.]
no subject
Well, yeah. I mean, we don't exactly have parents, so...
[Fomicry machines, emotionally damaged originals, and Jade for a grandpa. That's about it on the family front.]
And you and Sync are definitely brothers, and he's my best friend. Er, the one from my world, at least.
no subject
In my world...
[In his world, Sync is dead. Ion had tried to talk him down as soon as he realized who Sync was...tried to get him to listen to reason, and wanted to understand him, but the replica had thrown himself into the Planetary Core.
It still hurt to think about it. In a way, it had felt like losing a brother he didn't realize existed, and had been so close for so long. Or maybe, he just felt guilty. Like it was his own fault that Sync had given up and killed himself. Like...he had driven Sync to do it. Or was simply a failure for being unable to convince him that he could have a life here, with them.]
...well, he didn't--doesn't--care for me very much. To say the least.
no subject
Regardless, he'll hear a slightly panicked-sounding voice - ]
Ion!
[ - followed by footsteps, and then a moment later Anise is knelt down next to him, an arm around his shoulders to help steady him and a concerned expression on her face.]
What happened? What hurts? Do you need me to take you to the hospital?
[Sure, illness was par for the course when dealing with the Fon Master - but they were in an unfamiliar environment. It was better to be safe than sorry.]
no subject
[Thank Lorelei. Ion didn't want to sound desperate...but it was good to see her. It made him a bit less nervous--and honestly--
Before he can help it, he's leaning gratefully into her, head practically resting on her shoulder.]
No...I'm fine. I'm sorry for worrying you I just started to get a bit dizzy. I think I just need to rest a little.
[And honestly, just her having her arm around him in support was beginning to alleviate some of the lighter symptoms. Already, his knees began to cease their shaking.]
no subject
[Anise looks a little startled when his head hits her shoulder. She tightens her hold on him and shifts a bit so that she can wrap her other arm around him as well.]
Right. I've got you - rest all you need.
[She didn't think there was anything really dangerous around here, but she'd shield him from anything, regardless.]
no subject
Thank you, Anise.
[He doesn't really return the makeshift hug (though it's more of a protective cocoon as opposed to a hug), not wanting to be inappropriate, but Ion is more than happy to relax in his friend's arms.
Thankfully, it isn't too much longer before he feels his head really start to clear.]
I'm really sorry about that...I think I feel well enough to stand, now.
[He hated being so powerless...but there wasn't really much he could do about it. At least now he knew to heed the physical-contact warning. It was a good thing Anise was there for that. As long as she was around, he wouldn't have terribly much to worry about any longer.]
no subject
Are you sure? Because, I don't mind if you need to take a little longer...
[It's better to take a little more time than to fall ill again in a place like this.]
I just want to make sure you're really okay. Don't push yourself too much, alright?
no subject
Well, who wouldn't be uncomfortable with a corpse leaning around on buildings? The nerve of some people, really, who think that's okay to make such a joke! At least it doesn't stink. But, hey, there's a catch to all of this. The body is still alive and kicking. Oh, well, with skin like that how could anyone tell?]
Hey, you're blockin' some of the sunlight, here.
[Not really. Just a comment that is just so necessary to be made! Now gonna look him over for a second.]
Are ya tryin' to advertise yourself as bait, kid? I'm sure someone hasn't eaten in days.
no subject
I'm sorry, I wasn't...ah...
[Clearly, he had chosen a bad place to try and rest. Well, to be fair it was out in broad daylight. He should have known better. Not wanting to offend the stranger further, he pushes off from the wall.]
I'll...get out of the way...
[Not that he gets very far. Nauseous and dizzy, Ion's eyes press themselves shut involuntarily and he soon finds his feet slipping out from underneath him. It only took about a step and a half for him to lose his balance. Potentially a new record for the Fon Master.]
