Welcome to the Rekindle Test Drive!Trying to see if a character will fit or work in the setting? Need some interaction samples? Well this meme is for you! Make a post, tag around, and most importantly, have fun! Here's the setting page for those who want to learn a little more about the city itself. Then don't forget to go reserve your character in a week when they open. Here's some prompts to help you get started, if you need it: | | Option 1 | [While the days grow longer and warmer and the older, oriental-style of the city would normally make one think that the interiors would not be much in the way of relief from the hot sun, it may surprise the guest to see that the apartments the natives have allocated for them are surprisingly comfortable. In fact, the only modern convenience they may be missing is a television set! At least, outside the media floor on the first floor of Building One - the first of four inter-connected buildings.
In fact, each apartment building seems to have at least one different amenity on the first floor. In Building Two they seemed to even spare a library in another that seems to have the basics and some information packets that are otherwise found in the Welcome Center in District 2. There are even a few restaurants and common dining areas in the Building Three that are open until late at night, and meeting areas and a ballroom on the first floor in Building Four, perfect for setting up small parties or big events.
With the locals gone save those who work in the restaurants and the one librarian, leaving you to your own devices, what will you do? What mysteries could be left to discover in this place?] | | Option 2 | [With summer coming, the water level in the river is starting to go down, exposing some of the beach. The Riverside Shack is open late, and its restaurant is pulling out all the stops and offering seafood specials (even though a river is a far cry from an ocean). The rental store, meanwhile, is finally bringing out more of its swimming supplies, inner tubes and pool noodles, and a calmer stretch of the river has been roped off with buoys for swimming. They even have lifeguards chairs set up. Clearly this sort of thing used to be an annual event.
It's not quite an ocean beach (quite different actually), but there's still plenty of chance to have fun in the water. Or teach someone to swim, perhaps.] | | Option 3 | [If you're more inclined to explore or learn, the City's Learning Center might be more to your tastes. There certainly seems to be a lot going on here - there's laboratories and libraries and workshops, and plenty of communal areas where you can meet and talk with people. The natives seem pretty absorbed with their studies and work, though they're polite in brushing you off, at least.
Perhaps you'll have more luck seeing what other Guests such as yourself have discovered?] | | Option 4 | [Whoops. Looks like you haven't taken the cautionary words of the other NPCs to heart, or maybe you just wanted to take your chances. Either way, the withdrawal symptoms have started and you need to find someone to hug quickly before you get even more sick.] | | Option 5 | [If there's something else you wanted to play with, that you didn't see here, then have fun with that. You've just arrived in a strange city, after all. There's got to be plenty to explore out and about, not to mention people to meet.] |

still though, he brushes his fingers over the edge of jack's braid and slowly... slowly starts winding it around his hand (like a leash, jack, run while you still can), golden thread around a spindle, talking all the while:]
Though I've a feeling I won't be the one who needs to be taken care of here. [not at first. it's not a yes, not a no, just nothing. and then after a moment - halfway up, he lets his hand slide out from under his plait, watching it unfurl - he continues in his head, i won't be needing it, surviving is something i've been doing since...
a very long time ago. taking lacie away from their parents and living on the streets before the baskervilles took them in taught him more than he'd like about surviving.
it's why he leaves that hanging and slips his hand up to pass over jack's cheek again and push hair over his ear, touch warm (oswald the furnace) and lingering.]

If it was a seduction he wanted, all he had to do was ask. It was familiar, a matter of due course. He had just never expected the next head of Baskerville to want what he had to offer. Perhaps he should have guessed, perhaps Jack should have known. He won't make that same mistake twice.
But, even so, he clung not to the hand that offered comfort, that offered an end to the fevered dreams and the nausea in his stomach. No, he clung to the words and the near deadpan delivery. ]
So you have suffered through it once before. [ Jack's voice was sharp even though his face was carefully neutral. ] Who did you find to cure it?
[ Jealous? Not at all. But Oswald was never one for overt affection. Whoever witnessed Oswald desperate and begging, well... Jack may just have to pay a visit. He had an eye collection in need of building. ]

That's not really very important, [he starts, not taking his eyes off of jack, dropping his hand to take jack's, firm, serious hand holding right here. it's all little things really because he can't... bring himself to do the bigger things, jack seems really, really off - probably due to this place and something more important - and oswald doesn't like it, but that's what takes the heat off: little things over a prolonged period of time. oswald will never admit to doing anything more than this.] and certainly not anything you need to know.
[if he told jack some lovely woman with long black hair and blood red eyes took care of it, he might suspect that oswald's hiding lacie somewhere (hehe) and that's a little troublesome. besides, why would he want to know something like that? isn't oswald just trouble for him, as he so acting like now?
that doesn't matter to oswald. he's busy looking in the space between them, holding jack's hand so that he'll get his affection in because jack is a bullheaded punk who wants to go against the system, and after— after he can be on his way.]

Carefully, slowly, Jack ducked his head down to look up into Oswald's eyes, seeking past the fringe that often covered them. ] It is important, if you haven't been taking care of yourself. We should look out for each other, after all, dear friend.
[ and then Jack smiled, partially closing his eyes in utter guilelessness. Nope, not the tiniest bit suspicious of what Oswald's keeping back from him. ]

not that oswald would know who they are!
oswald lets jack duck close to see passed his fringe, but the most he does is close his eyes and close off anything he's feeling. excuse you, jack!] ...that doesn't mean you need to know who I found to cure my ache.
[the root of the problem of course is that he ached terribly and he doesn't want to ache again, no thank you.]

[ but he easily shrugs away his mood, a particular knack that he had gained over years of self-proclaimed survival skills. Nothing can hurt you, if nothing can scar you. No, he was the element that worked on them, instead. ]
But you're right, it doesn't matter; not so long as we look out for each other. [ Jack stepped back, a tiny bit steadier on his feet, a tiny bit lighter. ] Thanks, old friend. I'm feeling much better. [ he's practically his old self. ]
no subject
he has a terrible knack for that, oswald knows. he'd say it's more terrible than his knack to hang out in trees because he doesn't have to think about things, but that's not really so terrible. activities that liberate your mind and free you from thought, they aren't— bad, really, oswald doesn't dislike this.
he does, however, dislike people butting in to his personal life. oswald doesn't feel like they have the type of relationship that would allow him to disclose that kind of information, even if he won't lie to jack.]
...don't end up like this again, [oswald tells him, vaguely worried because jack's a little foolish today.] find me and I'll help you.
[because unlike you, sir you-can-rely-on-me-but-LOL-NOT-RIGHT-NOW-BYE, oswald is a man of his word!! if jack wants oswald to rely on him, he'll have to do the same. not that he... doesn't because he relied on him pretty heavily already even while oswald bore all of that pain in his heart, but even so. he's here and he's not going anywhere.]
