Welcome to the Rekindle Test Drive!Trying to see if a character will fit or work in the setting? Need some interaction samples? Well this meme is for you! Make a post, tag around, and most importantly, have fun! Here's the setting page for those who want to learn a little more about the city itself. Then don't forget to go reserve your character in a week when they open. Here's some prompts to help you get started, if you need it: | | Option 1 | [While the days grow longer and warmer and the older, oriental-style of the city would normally make one think that the interiors would not be much in the way of relief from the hot sun, it may surprise the guest to see that the apartments the natives have allocated for them are surprisingly comfortable. In fact, the only modern convenience they may be missing is a television set! At least, outside the media floor on the first floor of Building One - the first of four inter-connected buildings.
In fact, each apartment building seems to have at least one different amenity on the first floor. In Building Two they seemed to even spare a library in another that seems to have the basics and some information packets that are otherwise found in the Welcome Center in District 2. There are even a few restaurants and common dining areas in the Building Three that are open until late at night, and meeting areas and a ballroom on the first floor in Building Four, perfect for setting up small parties or big events.
With the locals gone save those who work in the restaurants and the one librarian, leaving you to your own devices, what will you do? What mysteries could be left to discover in this place?] | | Option 2 | [With summer coming, the water level in the river is starting to go down, exposing some of the beach. The Riverside Shack is open late, and its restaurant is pulling out all the stops and offering seafood specials (even though a river is a far cry from an ocean). The rental store, meanwhile, is finally bringing out more of its swimming supplies, inner tubes and pool noodles, and a calmer stretch of the river has been roped off with buoys for swimming. They even have lifeguards chairs set up. Clearly this sort of thing used to be an annual event.
It's not quite an ocean beach (quite different actually), but there's still plenty of chance to have fun in the water. Or teach someone to swim, perhaps.] | | Option 3 | [If you're more inclined to explore or learn, the City's Learning Center might be more to your tastes. There certainly seems to be a lot going on here - there's laboratories and libraries and workshops, and plenty of communal areas where you can meet and talk with people. The natives seem pretty absorbed with their studies and work, though they're polite in brushing you off, at least.
Perhaps you'll have more luck seeing what other Guests such as yourself have discovered?] | | Option 4 | [Whoops. Looks like you haven't taken the cautionary words of the other NPCs to heart, or maybe you just wanted to take your chances. Either way, the withdrawal symptoms have started and you need to find someone to hug quickly before you get even more sick.] | | Option 5 | [If there's something else you wanted to play with, that you didn't see here, then have fun with that. You've just arrived in a strange city, after all. There's got to be plenty to explore out and about, not to mention people to meet.] |

Cathy Barrett | The Nightside
[Option 1]
[Having explored every inch of the city that she possibly can, barring those that would make her physically ill to enter, Cathy's quickly found herself most at ease in the restaurants open late at night. After all, used to the atmosphere of the Nightside, it's when and where she feels most at home in this strange place. That eating areas are the best places to people watch, and meet others, is an added bonus.
Wired on one or two too many cups of coffee, her fingers tap in patterns on the table she sits at. It may be the beat to a song, some dance groove she enjoyed at Dancing Fool in months past, or some Techno-Demonic pop song, but whatever it is isn't enough to occupy her attention. Huffing a sigh, she looks around to see if there's someone she can bother for conversation.]
[Option 4]
[Cathy isn't really sure how it got to this point. Had she really gotten so distracted that she'd forgotten to spend some time getting cozy with another? She was used to multitasking a lot but she had been fairly certain she'd had everything under control...and then she'd swung her legs over the edge of her bed one morning (afternoon really, but it had been morning for her) and she felt the room spin. Worse, it had taken what felt like forever to get herself out of bed. Having lived most of her life in a perpetual state of cheerfulness, over-caffeination, and booze, it was a drastic change to suddenly feel as if she barely had energy to go down to the corner store for a snack.
Somehow she's managed, however, and made her way to one of the common rooms. Back to the wall, she slides down to the floor, and when someone comes near enough, she offers a weak sort of smile and tilts her head to the side.]
Don't suppose you'd fancy a cuddle, would you?
no subject
He takes a seat next to her, puts an arm around her shoulders. He's getting a little better about breaching personal bubbles here-- he's always been a hands-off kind of guy. But well, this is Cathy. He can't abide by her not feeling like her normal, perky self. ]
Gonna guess it ain't a hangover this time.
no subject
But no, her thoughts don't linger there long. Sighing, she shakes her head.]
Not this time, sad to say. Would be easy enough to pop a pill and down some water if that were the case.
[And while she knows it's too soon to already be feeling better, simply knowing that she will feel better after some time with Ladon helps.]
You've been clocking enough time I guess?
no subject
Thus why it's easier with Cathy. And why he can joke with her. ]
Ain't gone all scaly an' four-legged yet. Don't think I'd get many people willin' to cozy up with me that way, yeah?
no subject
You know I would no matter what form you were in, Ladon.
[He might have been joking but Cathy is serious.]
Unless you hadn't taken a bath in which case we might have to get you scrubbed down first, really.
no subject
I mean. We don't sweat or get grimy. Only gotta bathe hatchlings when they get into somethin' they shouldn't, but human kids get smelly after a couple days, yeah?
no subject
So while he may not be worried, he knows when someone doesn't look well, and is more than friendly enough to want to help. ]
You look like you need one, big time! [ he says in response, smiling a gap-toothed grin. He offers Cathy both his hands (garden gloves, they are) to help her up. ] If you don't mind the metal under all this patchwork, you can have as long a cuddle as you need!
no subject
Won't bother me a bit, if you don't mind me asking you a bit about yourself.
[Rising up to her feet with his help, she flashes him a smile.]
I'm Cathy.
no subject
He frees one hand and puts it over the red heart-shaped patch upon his chest, leaving the other holding on to Cathy's. It's physical contact after all, and even a handshake helps, he knows! ]
Happy to meet you, Cathy! I'm Talrovian, legally, but I'm going to get it changed to 'Thomas' whenever I get back home. I'll answer to anything, though! I get all sorts of nicknames. Even 'hey you' works in a pinch!
[ With a gentlemanly little flourish, he gestures towards the common room couches. He won't move towards them any faster than she can, and he's prepared to let her lean on him. ]
Ask a bit or ask a lot! I'm happy to talk if talking makes you happy.
no subject
Half-watching him, half-watching where they walk, she listens to him explain his name, or names even, with interest.]
Well in that case I ought to call you Thomas since that's the name you like.
[And Cathy is all about the things that people choose rather than enduring things they were given. After all, she'd done a little choosing herself, picking the Nightside over living a sane, boring life in London proper.]
Is everyone like you back home? Patchwork and metal, that is?
[It seems a sly sort of way of asking "By the way, what are you?"]
no subject
He does the gentlemanly thing again when they make it to a couch, making sure she's all comfortably seated and stable first, and proving his statement that he's "happy to talk" the whole while. ]
Oh gosh, no! I mean sure, clockwork's a pretty common base for constructs, but I'm a Lefrechan Original! The copper parts are, anyhow. Do you like the patches? I make my suits myself.
