Test Drive Meme!

Welcome to the Rekindle Test Drive!
Trying to see if a character will fit or work in the setting? Need some interaction samples? Well this meme is for you!

Make a post, tag around, and most importantly, have fun! Here's the setting page for those who want to learn a little more about the city itself.

Then don't forget to go reserve your character in a week when they open.

Here's some prompts to help you get started, if you need it:
Option 1
[While the days grow longer and warmer and the older, oriental-style of the city would normally make one think that the interiors would not be much in the way of relief from the hot sun, it may surprise the guest to see that the apartments the natives have allocated for them are surprisingly comfortable. In fact, the only modern convenience they may be missing is a television set! At least, outside the media floor on the first floor of Building One - the first of four inter-connected buildings.

In fact, each apartment building seems to have at least one different amenity on the first floor. In Building Two they seemed to even spare a library in another that seems to have the basics and some information packets that are otherwise found in the Welcome Center in District 2. There are even a few restaurants and common dining areas in the Building Three that are open until late at night, and meeting areas and a ballroom on the first floor in Building Four, perfect for setting up small parties or big events.

With the locals gone save those who work in the restaurants and the one librarian, leaving you to your own devices, what will you do? What mysteries could be left to discover in this place?]
Option 2
[With summer coming, the water level in the river is starting to go down, exposing some of the beach. The Riverside Shack is open late, and its restaurant is pulling out all the stops and offering seafood specials (even though a river is a far cry from an ocean). The rental store, meanwhile, is finally bringing out more of its swimming supplies, inner tubes and pool noodles, and a calmer stretch of the river has been roped off with buoys for swimming. They even have lifeguards chairs set up. Clearly this sort of thing used to be an annual event.

It's not quite an ocean beach (quite different actually), but there's still plenty of chance to have fun in the water. Or teach someone to swim, perhaps.]
Option 3
[If you're more inclined to explore or learn, the City's Learning Center might be more to your tastes. There certainly seems to be a lot going on here - there's laboratories and libraries and workshops, and plenty of communal areas where you can meet and talk with people. The natives seem pretty absorbed with their studies and work, though they're polite in brushing you off, at least.

Perhaps you'll have more luck seeing what other Guests such as yourself have discovered?]
Option 4
[Whoops. Looks like you haven't taken the cautionary words of the other NPCs to heart, or maybe you just wanted to take your chances. Either way, the withdrawal symptoms have started and you need to find someone to hug quickly before you get even more sick.]
Option 5
[If there's something else you wanted to play with, that you didn't see here, then have fun with that. You've just arrived in a strange city, after all. There's got to be plenty to explore out and about, not to mention people to meet.]

Davesprite's right to doubt. Draven, however, would profess he's done very well for a 900-year postmortem experience. And hey, the fluffing gets a laugh out of him - 'Just like an angel...'

New quest added: Talk About Junk Mail! Draven manages to push himself up and stand. He'd be all quick and fancy with everything but he feels like sweet chili sauce is shlooping through him. Fevers are weird.

"Absurd I even have nausea..."

He sways and harnesses the building momentum to employ an autonomy utilized by millions of mall-goers: walk in a random direction. Four steps out, Draven stumbles and shoulders the wall. Were he a less formal person on first encounter, he would've described the flood of instability like the sky and land were madly competing in Hokey Pokey, else two opposing cyclones bodyslamming each other in his brain.

Anyone holding together after that long is definitely doing something right. Davesprite rustles his wings, but doesn't comment- that's only going to invite further conversation about the whole thing, and he's not about to have it with someone he doesn't know at all.

"One of the things life decided was worth letting you keep out of the tussle," he suggests, following Draven also his somewhat stumbling tour to the wall. That's… kind of concerning, actually. "You think you're going to make it to the hospital if it's this bad?"

[personal profile] drivenblades 2013-06-01 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"I...have beared worse."

And hey, if they're stopped by a weight puzzle or enemy rush, Davesprite will have someone very handy. Now...Draven doesn't know much about this wall, but he kind of wants to stay here fore- he clenches his hand. Worse, certainly. More bizarre? No. He pushes himself away and takes two steps, stands in a second of silence.

"This...we even going the right way?"

If Draven had all his wits about him, he'd commend Davesprite. Usually, when someone ran afoul the wrath of the game gods, said victim's presumed to be paralyzed. He's glad Davesprite's no friend.

Always prepared, that's him.

Davesprite shrugs and sets out the map, rustling the paper. "Yeah," he says, looking up from it and nodding. "Could be closer, though. And worst comes to worst I can take a look, reorientate."

[personal profile] drivenblades 2013-06-03 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
Draven looks at him, and his eyes narrow on seeing the map. He's about to speak, about to reject and go alone, but what else Davesprite says...he sighs, brushes his hand on the hilt of his katana - he'll waste no more. Draven hasn't found anyone to fight besides himself, and allies don't have much merit here.

"You know, now that I feel, a drink may finally do something for me."

It's not a nudge, or even an attempt at conversation, really - he's more amused at the notion than anything. When they first started walking, Draven swayed back towards the wall, because it's cool, a filling cool, but...well, walking has a rhythm of its own, no matter how much it takes. They've almost reached the street.

And take the map with him? Rude. Davesprite folds the map up for the moment, dropping his hands to one side and moving on towards the street.

"Yeah? How long has it been since you've had one?" It's more a point of interest; he can't really say he has the same sort of interest in alcohol. If they'd even serve him.

He glances both ways up the street, looking to see if he can spot any pubs or whatever the local equivalent is, then nods up the street. "That way."

"Twenty years, I think. Hell has better bars - the land of the dead's charges for every plea, then doubles price on each refill."

Backwards as it is, more reason to hate the place's fine with him. Draven stops abruptly at the or-...direction. Then he sways and stumbles, follows it and begins a wide turn that crosses into the street (unless Davesprite wants to yank him back). Can't stop the rhythm for long - he'll fall and become the most ironic Life Alert ad.

As it happens, some sixteen cyclists round the corner, and (if Draven's still in the street) neither party looks willing to reasonably avoid the other. The cyclists, because they have reflexes to test. Draven, because he doesn't register them.

"Yeah? Is there some price on admission between those two?"

He doesn't grab him, not at this stage, but he sticks close enough to do so if it's absolutely needed- can't have this guy falling over on him, it'll be a pain to get him back up. And maybe ruin his reputation some, not that anyone here really knows him yet. Even if that would be a great moment to have, he still needs something to record it with.

Besides, when he reacts to realising Draven hasn't seen the cyclists (since clearly being dead isn't great on the reflexes), it's way easier to flashstep and yank someone who's standing than someone on the ground. Seriously, that'd just make it easier for him to be a speed hump. Some of the cyclists seem pretty startled by that whole encounter, swerving slightly to avoid someone who's not in that spot any more, but Davesprite doesn't give much of a shit. It's going to be fun enough explaining pulling Draven out of the way.

[personal profile] drivenblades 2013-06-10 06:37 am (UTC)(link)
It takes Draven a worrying amount of time to figure out what to say. "No. But dying's a good start."

The flailing, choking, lucid part of him finds gladness even here - that he no longer sweats, that he has no blood to burn...maybe the nausea and physical weakness compound, then. It'd explain the world twisting and its new dress of varying yellows, at any rate. Alas, video humiliation evaded, Davesprite may need to rely on imagination and easily-wowed folk to preserve the exploit untaken.

The yanking's unexpected. Draven stumbles back, draws his broadsword, seeing only bright yellow blurs that shine white, but the blade weighs his hands like chains and he faces Davesprite.

"Will it be your life as well, you who denies me Heaven?"

Fun. Yep. The last cyclist pauses some twenty feet away, because he's pretty sure the zombies were supposed to rock out on Friday and what neat move did that other guy do? But he doesn't stay long - he has an unrepeatable soul-breaking underdog comeuppance to enact.

Damn. Well, as long as his personal memory banks don't fail him, it's immortalised forever. He can work from there.

Davesprite pulls back himself, automatically reaching for his own sword- it's probably not good enough to take a blow from that, but hell if he's going into something like this unarmed.

"The fuck are you talking about?" he demands, flicking the cyclist a quick look before the guy speeds off. Good for him, no one needs to get caught in whatever showdown is about to happen. His wings lift slightly, feathers raised. "Unless you're talking about getting you to the hospital meaning you don't get another shot at the afterlife rodeo, you're gonna need to talk more."

[personal profile] drivenblades 2013-06-11 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
It's the voice that shakes him. Not even the tone, divorced from those parched self-praises he knew and the face of light. Vast flared wings shrivel and fall away, take the light with them and Draven's posture slackens. The world hasn't left...half-believed it would.

"...I was hoping I was wrong." Draven pushes away his pride and hitches the blade back on his belt. His way of apologizing to a man, halfhearted as it is - he doesn't have the strength to do more. "I'm seeing what's not here now...the withdrawal's becoming a madness."

So yeah, he mistook Davesprite. Draven looks down the street, over a little, but the light, the yellows, remain as faint trailing sears.

"Let's keep going, then - we can't be far. Should you still wish to, you will hear on the way."

Draven explaining himself and his life story to strangers isn't weird for him at all. At home, though, it had more purpose - a warning, a challenge, another try that someone may care...but whether Davesprite chooses to listen is another story. Draven won't mind if he doesn't - it'll be partially coherent anyway.

He stays tense a few moments longer, then nods, accepting that, and puts his sword away. "That bad? Better get there fast." He pauses, watching Draven for a few moments, evaluating how he's walking, but Draven seems to think he can make it.

He nods instead, moves to catch up and keep pace. Just in case. "Sure. Fill me in on all the weird details, let's see how freaked out it can get."

As long as he's talking, he's keeping on, and it's reassuring in a way. Davesprite might not catch all of it, but he's happy to let Draven go on, maybe ask questions about a few points of interest here and there. Doesn't hurt to know someone else is there.

[personal profile] drivenblades 2013-06-12 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"I was speaking more metaphorically. Of Heaven."

More, but not wholly. Talk Draven does, mainly of promises broken and how much of a dick everyone is (with a notably softer hate directed at women) and how he'll see humanity worth more than the stage of war. Draven's pace fluctuates far less than his volume, and from time to time he looks at Davesprite, too, wonders just which one's real.

He's quiet when they reach the hospital. He's been quiet for a while, reflecting on how much he wouldn't have done if he hadn't felt so much. But aid's been given, and Draven never neglects it. Hand at the door, he looks at Davesprite.

"I'll go on. Key's yours while I'm here - put it in the eighth floor's cracked pillar when you're through."

The apartment key's shoved at him and Draven's through the door. It's true that each apartment has the basics - what's an ideal is everything else staying where it's intended to be. There are plenty of things that, by all accounts but one, shouldn't be in Draven's apartment. Part of the fun of being in a new place - shaking it up.

(OOC: And that can be it unless you want to wrap up. Thanks!)

Davesprite raises his hand to take the key, surprised- he wouldn't have thought of it himself- and nods. "Sure. Guess I'll be seeing you around sometime, then." (Because what isn't interesting about someone like him, really.)

He is going to poke around Draven's apartment a bit, just to see how it differs, and also to make a few small adjustments- nothing too big, just to say that he was there. Other than that, everything's as he's asked, the key in the pillar whenever Draven gets back.

[[ooc: It's been cool! Thank you, too.]]
