Test Drive - April Edition
![]() Happy early April and spring! Here's a new test drive to go with it! Trying to see if a character will fit or work in the setting? Need some interaction samples? Well this meme is for you! Make a post, tag around, and most importantly, have fun! Here's the setting page for those who want to learn a little more about the city itself. |
Here's some prompts to help you get started, if you need it: |
Option 1 |
[Something went wrong with your arrival, or perhaps the security around the gates was lax. Either way, you find yourself outside the city and in place that's providing a steady drain on your energy and looking a lot less warm and welcoming. Particularly those insects of unusual size skittering down the sides of the buildings, just waiting for the wrong movement to be made before swarming. There's an alarm being raised on the other side of the city walls, and it sounds like help is on the way…But will it come fast enough?] |
Option 2 |
[There's a bustle of activity in some parts of the city; people fussing over generators that look freshly installed (and also look oddly lantern like; one more oddity to add to this place) and trying to get them up and running. It looks like they could use a hand or two to help…And oddly enough, given the instructions, hand holding to help power these devices.] |
Option 3 |
[Spring is here! Or at least close at hand, with all the flowers beginning to bud in the trees and the grassy areas. (There might even be a few small animals on hand, too!) Even a change in decoration as little charms and masks are hung up on buildings and the like. Chances are, there might be some other people out enjoying the spring weather, too.] |
Option 4 |
[Whoops. Looks like you haven't taken the cautionary words of the other NPCs to heart, or maybe you just wanted to take your chances. Either way, the withdrawal symptoms have started and you need to find someone to hug quickly before you get even more sick.] |
Option 5 |
[If there's something else you wanted to play with, that you didn't see here, then have fun with that. You've just arrived in a strange city, after all. There's got to be plenty to explore out and about, not to mention people to meet.] |
Splinter | TMNT 2012 (Option 3, or any others!)
[Despite his relaxed appearance, Splinter is anything but. Large, rounded ears are lifted and turned out, listening beside and behind him, back straight, whiskers stiff. He'd been-- disoriented, of course. Suddenly finding himself outside of the dark, damp sewers of New York. The view of the sun was a luxury he'd never allowed himself to truly look forward to, but with the hum of overly-large cicadas (he assumes, from the sound,) and the unknown scents in the air...
While he isn't tense to the point of inability, his guard is certainly up, despite the easy pace of his movements, staff in claw. Uncertainty is the biggest disadvantage, despite the inviting and welcoming sights of the city before him, reminiscent of his home in Japan so many years ago. As warm as the town appears, there's no knowing what strange power has torn him here away from his home.
So hello Saeng Seong-- a six-foot-one rat is going to be moving carefully into the shadows of a building, to try and gain whatever information he can- Either about this place, whatever ended him here, or- most imperatively- the state of his sons.]
no subject
[Sighing for what had to be the tenth time since she arrived, Layer turned another corner and felt a light, fluttery sensation in her chest again. Wherever this city was, it was beautiful. It cried of nostalgia and Eastern culture, and the warm, comfortable color and sheer atmosphere seemed to tell her everything was alright. She'd love to believe it, and that was what drove her to press onward alone amid radio silence; she couldn't contact the Hunters, nor could she call Alia or Pallette. She thought her communication systems were top of the line.]
Oh-!
[There was someone moving into an alleyway. When you hailed from a world where your comrades could have human shapes, animal shapes or both, seeing a tall rat-man was no surprise to her. Quickening her pace, she was relieved to see another person. Information! But she had to be quick or she may lose him.]

From another of those shadows a young man with dyed-blue hair, perfectly white feathers, and bright, observant eyes watches Splinter with more wariness than alarm. Oddly, while he's a harpylike creature and has the warm-bread-and-feathers smell of a clean pigeon, it's oddly easy to overlook him.
With those scaly legs stretched out straight underneath him he's in the vicinity of seven feet tall and awkward about it. Julien's not really used to his body being like this, and anxious about being in public. Hence lurking and using his stealth talent to keep from attracting as much notice as he might.]

But, for better or worse, he hadn't just started dreaming. And, in presence or in confusion, he wasn't alone. Also for better of worse.
It didn't matter where you went or what city you passed through; people- or things, as the case might be- who stuck to the shadows weren't usually doing it out of shyness. Heck, he had his own reasons. But the figure in question making him flip-flop between rat and human in trying to identify it... well, that one was a new one.
He'd keep his gear where it was for now. Having one person of questionable humanity around was enough. But he'd make his way over, and keep up that calm while he did so.]

Julien was human, once. He's not entirely clear on why he's been getting less so; a popular theory is that he's the reincarnation of someone extremely inhuman and that's been catching up. By now his arms and legs have gone over. The latter are so long now that if he stands straight he's around seven feet off the ground. It's very awkward. He keeps his wings tightly folded. At a casual enough glance, they and his tail just seem like a huge feather cloak. The legs - maybe he's on red stilts?
While he's unhappy about the change and hates scaring people, he has to go out, and be out and part of the world, particularly if it's strange. Have a bright smile.]
Suil! I mean, hi. How's it going? Has the winter been as long here as it was at home?

Well gee, I just got here not too long ago mahself. If it's a long winter, it's news ta me. But I like winter! Snowball fights, hot cocoa, and all them nice holidays!

Layer | Megaman X | Option 1
If the Hunters could push themselves against steadily-stacking odds, then so could she.
Drawing her rapier, she decided her best bet was heading for the city. They had lights, electricity, and she hoped she'd be able to find the answers she sought. Why she drew her rapier? Targeting reticules signaled her to incoming foes: Large, malevolent insects.
A whoooole lot of them.
Re: Layer | Megaman X | Option 1
Except for the bugs. They looked better than ever. And bigger. Much, much bigger. And the only presence apart from that was that blaring siren amidst the one stretch of buildings that looked pretty well-off.
No... it was faint. but there was one other signal out here. Ad hoc, too.
He wasn't fond of killing living creatures, but a couple bugs streaking towards him were quickly fended off with two quick blasts from a cannon he was swift to dispel... he had to save energy as he made his way over to that other little blip on his radar. Maybe with the other one's help he could make it back without a fuss.

It was faster for her to find a ladder and scale the walls, however, than it was to divert to the gate, and her unorthodox approach was rewarded with a view of someone being attacked by those damned bugs. As if there weren't enough giant bugs back home.
She pulled her drones up and sent them over the wall, jumping in and taking direct control of them from where she sat. Layer would soon be joined by a pair of roughly cat-sized machines, one round and hovering and launching miniature mortars at the bugs, and the other wheeled and tank-like, firing from a domed turret.

Fujishiro Nageki|Hatoful Boyfriend
Staring, actually. Doesn't he know that's rude?]
Re: Fujishiro Nageki|Hatoful Boyfriend
At least Prussia is dignified enough not to squee, but it's a close thing]
!!!! [the noise that did come out, though, could only be symbolized in type as several punctuation marks. Prussia will maintain it was not a squee, though.

Proto Man | Mega Man | Option 2
But, necessities are just so; and when even his technical knowledge couldn't even begin to make sense of the 'generator' he was currently examining, he had to concede that if none of this strangeness made any sense he'd just have to learn the ropes by doing it their way.
Besides which, if the instructions said "holding hands" no matter how many times he force-retranslated them, he'd have to at least give it a try. He'd call out to passerby either for help or a second opinion.]
Hey. Do you know how to work this generator?

Rocketbilly Redcadillac | Gungrave: Overdose | Option 1, Option 3
Billy got used to waking up in strange places a long time ago; riding with a partner who never got tired or needed sleep meant long stretches covered when Billy wasn't paying attention. And he's used to waking in spots that don't look so inviting. The bugs are new.
So is being alone, and feeling woozy, and feeling the dirt and grit under his hands as he gets back to his feet. He doesn't have much time to think about that, though; those bugs are weirdly big and there's a lot of them. Billy can't help a sad sort of smile as he tightens his grip on the neck of his guitar.
"I've got the strangest feelin'," he drawls in a voice much stronger than his legs at the moment, "that y'all wouldn't mind a little piece of me." He hears the sirens now – a faraway, tinny sound, but then he can't seem to hear properly – and chuckles ruefully, strumming a chord. So these are just the first batch of cannon fodder and there's more on the way? That's nothing new, either. His guitar crackles to life. "Well? Come on!"
Barely back to life and he already feels like he's dying again, vision all dark and sparkling at the edges, head swimming with every little turn, chest tight and breath coming short (good lord, he'd forgotten what it's like to breathe). If he's gonna go out like this, he can at least put on a good show.
[ OPTION 3 ]
Springtime. It's springtime and Billy's almost in sensory overload because how could he not be out and about on such a gorgeous day? It may take him forever to readjust. He's fine with that.
One would think watching him stop and smell as many different flowers as he sees, stare too long at the brilliant decorations hanging in windows and from eaves, and the way he just stops and looks at the sky like he's never seen it before that he's a bit simple. The idea does occur to him… after a good twenty minutes and multiple stops to sniff and touch things. Oh, but he missed this so. He whistles an aimless, happy tune as he walks along the shops, just soaking up sunlight and colour.
Nothing can ruin this. Everything's bright and real and alive like he hasn't seen the world in ages. And, Billy thinks as he pauses in front of a little shop with tables full of knick-knacks out front, it's full of weird new things.
"Uh, pardon me, ma'am?" he hails the shopkeeper as he holds up an odd little charm. "But, uh, what d'you call this thing?"
Option 3
So of course it would be someone like her who speaks up about the way he's acting.
"Let me guess - nothing like home, huh?"
3 it is!

Goofy | Kingdom Hearts | Option 3 (but willing to do others)
And oh, isn't that a lovely little flower in the ground! He bends over to pluck it up, and then takes a grateful whiff.]
Mmm.... Uh. Ah... Ah...
[His face scrunches up-
ACHOO!
[The flower all but explodes at the force that sneeze, and seems to startled a few people nearby.]
... Whoops.

[ Maybe it's her penchant for waking up on other worlds with no explanation, but Kairi isn't particularly concerned about the hows or whys of her arrival in yet another unfamiliar location. The beauty of this world's springtime has captured her attention instead. Springtime on a tropical island isn't very much different from the other three seasons, but this place looks like something out of a picture book, with daffodils and crocuses popping up everywhere, and little green buds dotting all the trees. The air itself is pleasantly fragrant, not particularly overpowering. She takes in a deep breath-- ]
[ --And hears a sneeze as she exhales. Turning, she trots over to the source of the sound and finds a familiar face. ]
Goofy! [ A smile alights on her lips as she hurries over. ]
Bless you. [ She remembers to add when she reaches him. ]

Seras Victoria || Hellsing || Option 2
She shook her head a bit, drawing herself out of the dark thoughts she had and continued to wander around. The sun was just now setting, but despite the growing darkness, she was still covered in a long coat that she had managed to find. It wouldn't be much longer before she could take it off and enjoy the night.
She paused for a moment to look at one of the new generators. They were rather interesting, but she couldn't quite understand how they worked. How could hand holding light the lights? She doubted that she would ever understand it, but they did look nice.
She turned to go and nearly ran into someone.]
Oh! I'm sorry!

Don't worry about it. It's kind of distracting, I know.

option 2, but you're welcome to start another option with her
[ From their chatter, Kairi caught mention of "generators" and "needing some help." She wondered briefly if she should offer her help. Fixing machines was far from Kairi's strong suit; if anything, she was better suited to breaking them (although that was much more Sora's talent than hers). But maybe there was something else she could help with. Any help was good help, right? ]
Excuse me? [ She began, approaching the group. She stood up on her tiptoes and craned her neck to see past the group. ] I'm not really good at fixing machines, but is there anything I can do to help?
so i thought it time to stop being a silly and actually- OH GOD A KAIRI 8D
Except he recognizes that voice.
In fact, he knows it way too well to not just turn around and then jump very minutely in surprise.]
K-Kairi?
[When did you get here don't tell him he missed her arriving. D:]
Ellie | The Last of Us | 2
If anybody approaches her about helping out, she just gives them a Look and wordlessly joins in. Except, however, in the case of the city's signature brand of "helping"]
Noooo thanks. I don't really do the whole hand-holding thing.
[At the very least not with just anybody. And unfortunately, just anybody seems to be what they're encouraging here.]

[Shinjiro's not going to force it. And normally, he wouldn't readily offer his hand to a stranger, but he's not quite as cold to people younger than him.
He shoves his hand back into his pocket and sighs, leaning against the side of a building and looking up at the clouds.]

Tron | TRON + Kingdom Hearts 2 | Option 3
Was this a breeze? And these... scents? Is that the word for them? There were unlike anything he'd ever experienced.
So. Either the Users in Radiant Garden had become far better programmers than even his first User in less than a full cycle (and as much as he liked his current Users, calculating the chances of it were outside the parameters of his programming), or...
Or somehow, the near-impossible had happened.
He looks around one more time, taking in the sights and other strange sensory data he is receiving with wonder apparent on his expression.] So... this is the world of the Users...
[It's ... greener than he thought it would be. Maybe it's just this sector?
This called for exploration. First, this green sector.]
[OOC: I'm sorry for the lack of icons - I don't even know where to start looking for him.]
weeoo weeoo sound the feelsalarm
It didn't matter, though. Guilt was heavy on his heart, but at the same time he couldn't help but be elated at his good friend being there. Perhaps, perhaps he could set his spirit at ease...
Slowly he rose, stretching his legs a little. Some days that movement didn't come quite as readily as it used to, but that wasn't going to slow him down now. He strode quickly over to the befuddled program - there was far more to take in here than anything in either of the systems - and rested a hand reassuringly on his shoulder.
Just like old times. It was hard to not get a little teary-eyed at that.]
It sure is, buddy. Glad you could make it...
This is going to be equal parts painful and hilarious, I can feel it.
sora (au) | kingdom hearts | option 4, 3???
he'd arrived and he'd... taken precautions to stay away from others. they kept telling him, he needed to be around others, he needed to interact, but...! he didn't even have ven with him anymore. his heart felt empty without his friend, without a guiding light. he didn't trust himself around others, not without some sort of tether. he tended to come out at night, prowl around, do necessities--get a notepad and pens, leave money, and disappear.
and then he woke up today and he felt... dizzier. his eyelids were heavy. he tried to cheer himself up--everything was definitely going to be alright in the end--but it was hard to keep it up when his whole world was spinning.
sora rubbed his eyes with the back of his hands, eyelids feeling hot and neck feeling scratchy, even without any voice to put a strain on.
this was probably what they were talking about, wasn't it?
seated underneath a tree, he peered dimly out at the sidewalks, shoulders sagging and chin starting to drop against his chest.
it was already sunset--if he just took a nap here, it'd be night, and no one would bother him. he'd be okay, right?
just a little nap...
this whole 'touching' thing... he wouldn't let it happen. he'd just lose control of his heartless instincts. surely there was a way to avoid these effects otherwise. ]
no subject
Terra has to blink a few times and stare, just to be sure he isn't imagining this.
... Nope. Still there.
On one hand, it's a Heartless. Worse, a Heartless shaped like Sora. On on the other hand, it isn't attacking anyone - if he didn't know better, he'd almost swear it was doing it's best to avoid people.
It also looks like it's about to pass out under that tree. And if it is, somehow, Sora as a Heartless...
Though it's with some hesitation, he makes his way over to the almost-snoozing Heartless, kneels down, and gently shakes his shoulder.] Hey... Sora?
[His voice is kept quiet, but there's no hiding the worry in his tone.
'How did this happen?']
