Welcome to the Rekindle Test Drive! Trying to see if a character will fit or work in the setting? Need some interaction samples? Well this meme is for you! Make a post, tag around, and most importantly, have fun! Here's the setting page for those who want to learn a little more about the city itself. Then don't forget to go reserve your character in a week when they open. Here's some prompts to help you get started, if you need it: Option 1 [While the days grow longer and warmer and the older, oriental-style of the city would normally make one think that the interiors would not be much in the way of relief from the hot sun, it may surprise the guest to see that the apartments the natives have allocated for them are surprisingly comfortable. In fact, the only modern convenience they may be missing is a television set! At least, outside the media floor on the first floor of Building One - the first of four inter-connected buildings. In fact, each apartment building seems to have at least one different amenity on the first floor. In Building Two they seemed to even spare a library in another that seems to have the basics and some information packets that are otherwise found in the Welcome Center in District 2. There are even a few restaurants and common dining areas in the Building Three that are open until late at night, and meeting areas and a ballroom on the first floor in Building Four, perfect for setting up small parties or big events. With the locals gone save those who work in the restaurants and the one librarian, leaving you to your own devices, what will you do? What mysteries could be left to discover in this place?] Option 2 [With summer coming, the water level in the river is starting to go down, exposing some of the beach. The Riverside Shack is open late, and its restaurant is pulling out all the stops and offering seafood specials (even though a river is a far cry from an ocean). The rental store, meanwhile, is finally bringing out more of its swimming supplies, inner tubes and pool noodles, and a calmer stretch of the river has been roped off with buoys for swimming. They even have lifeguards chairs set up. Clearly this sort of thing used to be an annual event. It's not quite an ocean beach (quite different actually), but there's still plenty of chance to have fun in the water. Or teach someone to swim, perhaps.] Option 3 [If you're more inclined to explore or learn, the City's Learning Center might be more to your tastes. There certainly seems to be a lot going on here - there's laboratories and libraries and workshops, and plenty of communal areas where you can meet and talk with people. The natives seem pretty absorbed with their studies and work, though they're polite in brushing you off, at least. Perhaps you'll have more luck seeing what other Guests such as yourself have discovered?] Option 4 [Whoops. Looks like you haven't taken the cautionary words of the other NPCs to heart, or maybe you just wanted to take your chances. Either way, the withdrawal symptoms have started and you need to find someone to hug quickly before you get even more sick.] Option 5 [If there's something else you wanted to play with, that you didn't see here, then have fun with that. You've just arrived in a strange city, after all. There's got to be plenty to explore out and about, not to mention people to meet.]

[Giselle has admired the river for some time now, so when the beach began to open up, she was more than happy to go to the shore and explore. She smiled brightly as her bare feet touched the ground. She happily greets anyone else she comes across, but soon settles into one spot by the water. She let out a sweet, melodious songs and soon several birds and other small animals have come flocking to her side.

Cheerfully, she greets them all individually. In fact, it appears she is having a conversation with them. She looks completely happy and content in their company.]

Oh! [Alice came over watching the song bring birds and small animals to her side and Alice was instantly attracted. Was it a faerie? Faeries could make animals come when they sang, right? She cautiously went over to Giselle, trying to look for wings on the pretty red head.

Without fail one of the animals noticed her and tweeted at her, Alice jumped in surprise.]

[ Weather as it was and his time management as it was, Dick never got to visit the beaches much during his brief time in Chicago. Considering there wasn't much to do here, at least when it came to his usual activities, he figured he could afford to spend some time relaxing. This might have been the first time he ever let himself relax since... Well, since things went to a new level of hell in Gotham.

So he'll probably be at the beach all, if not most of the day. He'll be burning off energy in the water, stretching and practicing some of his acrobatics on the shore, or just relaxing in the sand and working on a tan. ]

Eh, she doesn't care. She scoots on over to his spot on the shore and hopes he isn't still mad at her for the whole 'freezing Damian' thing. ]

[Luke's still reeling from the situation he's been dropped in. One minute he was getting settled into his new home with his family, the next he's been kidnapped to some other strange city and his family is no where in sight. Granted this city didn't seem like it was dangerous, but he didn't trust it one bit.

As he's walking down the streets, he starts feeling a little woozy. He thinks he might be from nerves from being lost and alone in a new city, but it starts getting worse and he has to sit down to keep himself from tripping over his feet.]

[That's when a small boy with peculiar hair crosses your path, noting that Luke didn't look so well.]

[He peered at him curiously, a bit sheepish to disturb him so openly but he hoped he was alright. He'd just sat down in the middle of the street hadn't he? That wasn't normal.]

[Badou hasn't seen a beach in a while.

Actually, the city has a lot of things he hasn't seen in a while. Like friendly people and clean air and not-rancid food. Badou is only half-sure that he's high--something that hasn't happened in a while--but while he's on this trip, he may as well ride it out. He just hopes he doesn't wake up in a trash can somewhere.

Badou's got his pants rolled up and sandals stuffed in his pockets. Hopefully smoking is allowed on his beach as much as it is to wear a giant camouflage-printed parka. He's very stylish, thank you.]

He's a huge idiot, he thought things would be fine. Just fine! Because nothing bad seemed to be happening so far, right? Maybe he slipped up somewhere, didn't give enough pats on the back. Something....

Because right now Sera just can't do it. Wherever he was going, it. Can. Wait, because he needs to sit down before he keels over. Wouldn't be the first time he's overexerted himself - but that's the problem, why didn't he learn? ... Well, feeling like a wild cold's coming on is different from spraining an ankle.

But it still sucks! So he'll complain! Loudly!]

[ Okay, now that is just pathetic. Can't he find somewhere else to pass out? She was looking forward to sitting on that bench. It was a fine bench and it had nothing to do with not having enough physical contact.

Honestly, whipping should count as physical contact. Why did it not count as physical contact?

Standing in front of her bench (even if it's public property), she glares at the boy. Tries to, at least. It's more of tired, judgmental squinting. ]

[ it's not that he'd ignored the warnings, exactly, it's just that-- they have no idea how difficult it can be for him to talk to, to connect with, to touch strangers sometimes. it's easier if he's in control of the situation, of course, and he recognizes the dysfunction of that thought, but it's not as if it isn't expected. he's so often out of control in his own mind these days that he takes it where he can get it.

the nightmares have been getting worse. the sleepwalking is still happening. he's sick, and he knows why, and it would be so easy to fix. anyone else could do it. but for will.. where is dr. lecter to rationalize him through this paralysis? where are people he knows?

libraries are quiet places. they allow a person to sit and think, and though will doesn't need any more opportunity to get lost in his own head, he's in the library anyway. it reminds him a little of hannibal's office, which of late has become a sort of refuge for him. he's curled at a corner table, a book open and unread in front of him, face flushed with fever and glasses sliding down his nose. a part of him is aware that he probably looks.. crazy, at best, but he can hear his heart hammering in his ears. it's here, and he knows it's a part of his imagination, but it makes it no less real for all that. he can hear it breathing, the steady, heavy thud of its hooves.

it's not alive, the buck. it's never been. but it's coming closer anyway and there's no one to make it disappear, and he's afraid of what will happen once it finally reaches him. ]

Why are so many people ridiculous?

May is hanging out in the library but when she sees Will, she's on her way out. The flushed face and generally sick disposition clue her in pretty quickly onto what's going on.

She sighs, moving to walk up to him.

"You're getting a hug. If you want to punch me in the face after, that's cool, but you're gonna do it not being sick and miserable."

And then she promptly walks around to his side and wraps her arms around him.

Saying that Collector is overjoyed is a big euphemism. He's straight up ecstatic.

Okay, he doesn't know where he is, what is this place or how he got here, but he's among humans, in a human world, full of human stuff. Not only that, but earlier humans have led his to this room made of other rooms called an apartment and told him it was his now. And when he had opened the door, he had seen it was full of human stuff!!! He had stormed in, pressing every button, turning every knob, grabbing all the linens and stuffing it in his weaved backpack for safekeeping.

He's now sitting by the open door of his apartment, examining the money in the wallet he had found on the ground earlier, tracing the portrait of the figure on the bill with careful fingers.

[The moment Echo heard there was a restaurant in Building Three, he made a beeline for it. Maybe there'd be some new food to taste. So there he was, sitting at a table and reading the menu, browsing for something that would hopefully be delicious. It didn't quite feel the same as when he went out to eat with Gold, but a new experience was a new experience. The seat across from him was empty, and Echo secretly hoped that someone would join him. It'd make the meal more special.]

Since he's found himself in a city again - a new one at that, one he can't even place on a map - to say he wouldn't bother trying to explore it would quickly seem a mistake. Red may have spent a few years in the mountains more often than not, but he still likes to know his way around a place as thoroughly as possible.

Maybe a little too much so, sometimes. If a door is open, he's peeked in at least once, quietly noting what's there and what isn't. Mostly what isn't.

Because he hasn't seen many people... or pokemon around, either. That's the biggest oddity. His pikachu following along at his heel, or otherwise riding on his shoulder, is the more vocal of the two for the most part. It calls out Pikaaa down empty halls as though it could draw some out, as its trainer continues on in his search for answers.

Or at least a little more excitement.

The Learning Center is better populated, and a better chance to find things out from different sorts of people, too. While the labs sound interesting, Red and pikachu move on to a communal area first, to get a wider perspective of things. It's just getting someone's attention....

Red's voice isn't exactly made to project anymore, and he relies first on a tap on someone's shoulder, a small wave, a stare that might seem to last too long for comfort - just some sort of sign to say 'Excuse me, may I ask you something?'

Despite having her bare toes buried in the sand, Shura can barely believe it, which would explain why she looks so lost as she stares into the distance.

Where is she? Is she dead? Is this Hell? Is it gonna be destroyed as soon as she makes a move?

[ It's still a foreign world, no matter how long you stay, you never have all the answers. Exploring only goes so far, and when you talk to the same people over and over you only get so much to go on. Maybe that's why going to someplace called "Learning Center" seemed to the best way to go.

At the end it was only irritating, that bit of a huff and arms crossed over her chest as she finds herself somewhere in the midst of all the goings ons and no one willing to spare a moment.

What was the point of this trip again? ]

[ It shouldn't be that difficult. A touch of the hand, a small embrace. It wasn't that difficult at all, it's one thing to do these of things as fun and games, but when you're required to do it does it seem... well, a little less fun.

The dizziness began to set in, that feeling that she couldn't quite keep up. But she knew it wasn't that far, she could get to a bench. Or a little hidden grassy area, either would be fine in her mind.

It would be easier if she could summon out Leon, climb onto his back and let him take her somewhere private. Even that had failed, at first it was like a flicker and all was well. But as time progressed, it seemed more like static than anything else. And even that was fading.

The fluster to her cheeks as she found something, a tree. This was okay, going behind to be out of view she curled up. What was this torture? It wasn't just the side effects, but not having Leon. Not having anyone else for that matter, that's what was hurting the most. It was like being alone all over again, and that might have been the most crushing feeling weighing her down. ]

(really, a lot of trouble, more trouble than most people.) for a moment, he lets himself keep watching, keep on for another, until he thinks about stepping next to her, hand reaching out and down to gently run over her hair. comfort, solace, a reprieve from what's happening— who knows, but he's completely quiet as he does it, watchful and gentle.

this place requires touch, doesn't it? a simple brush isn't going to do much, it takes a little more than that he's learned, but if people keep making this difficult for themselves, they're not going to get very far. oswald doesn't like being touched, specifically, but touching—

initiating meant he was in control, not them, so that's all right for now.]

Li Mei | Jisei | Option 4

[Li Mei's one of those people that have been avoiding others despite the warnings given upon arrival, and now she's paying for it. It seemed simple enough to just go out there and find someone, but... she can't bring herself to do that, for a multitude of reasons. So the only other option she can think of is to put all her concentration into something else, to keep her mind off the withdrawal symptoms.

Wherever you run into Li Mei, she's somewhere out of the way with few people around, simply sitting at a bench and staring at her hands. Her expression is visibly strained, and if you follow her line of sight to her hands, you'll notice she's folding a paper crane. For a while now, judging from the giant pile next to her.]

[ooc: As a note, Li Mei has empathic powers (can sense emotions). She won't easily talk about them, but you may want to keep that in mind if you reply.]

[That's quite a mound of paper cranes. Richard stops at the bench, noticing the signs of stress and naturally concerned that someone is not well. The warm kindness of his thoughts is expressed through a geniality in his expression.]

What madness was this place?! Everyone looked strange, and worst, looked at her strange! Her! Popess Lodovica! Who had kidnapped her and what backwater planet has they sent her on that no one knew who she was? She had no bodyguards or bishops or Miracle Genie to help, and on the news, no one was speaking of her disappearance. Was this it? Had she been exiled? She gasped. Was Agape back??? And that damn cold that wasn't leaving her! Oh God, has she been poisoned???

Anyone coming to the media room can find Lodovica hogging the TV to watch the news channel, mulling dark thought. She's easy to spot: her skin is striped and flushed from withdrawal, she has pointy ear and is wearing a simple, short, dark bustier dress as well as a hood on her bald head.

She might prefer a certain someone a little more than everyone else, but Mai's probably the most extroverted ninja...pretty much ever. It's summer, which means she's strolling around town in jean shorts and a yellow tanktop, ponytail swishing with her light steps. With the weather getting warmer, it's time to do a little shopping. She needs a new bathing suit to go try out that little beach-like river place. And who knows? Today might be the day ~♥Andy♥~ shows up at long last.]

[ He wasn't sure what they expected him to do. Sure they pretty much told him to go out and hug people, but... well, to be honest the idea of hugging anyone he didn't know made Cloud frown and think about how getting out of here. That meant exploring, something that he was well-use to by now. The only thing he couldn't understand is why people actually took a little offense having someone like him waltz into their residence, look around and then waltz right on out.

Maybe they just weren't use to exploring saviors of the world.

Whatever the case might be, Cl9oud found himself outside of a lab, arms crossed over his chest as he tried to hide the urge to level the whole place.

[Considering the fact that he was still unfamiliar with this place, Riku decided that it would likely be a good idea to familiarize himself with the apartments first. This was no Disney Castle, and it sure wasn't home, but if anything happened, this would likely end up being a place he spent his down time (aside from the river) when he wasn't exploring.

Though the smiles from those working at the library was...definitely a little unnerving. To say the least (did he just walk into a set for Stepford Smilers?)]

[Even the waves sounded... different.

As Riku stood near the edge of the riverbank, he couldn't help but notice the differences even something as familiar as water was here. Though, it did remind him slightly of China. It just lacked a certain slight chill in the air.]

[She was just poking around the apartments, on her way to her own apartment when she spots him. The relief that shoots through her at the sight is immense. He's the right age this time. The right height. It could still be wrong but there's a feeling in her gut that no, this is the one she knows.

[ Duke might be shaky as he works his way around the library. Of course, the way he keeps his hands out and keeps clipping tables and doorframes, knocking into things like he can't see.

Which, despite the way he is looking blankly about, he can't. His usual method wasn't quite working, which doesnt help with the way his walking looks. Maybe less unsure and more closer to drunk. or maybe there is something wrong with his balance...

It would be a little more clear with the way he finally settles, stumbling a little, with a braill book. ]

Instead of complaining or crying about wanting to go home, there is one boy who has decided to try and learn more about the new city he was brought in. Perhaps it was for naught but it could be a starting point in figuring out the mystery behind this place. If anyone were to approach him, he wouldn't mind the company. He's friendly enough.

[This statement is underscored by Deb throwing her hands in the air, resulting in the small bunch of pamphlets that had been being shoved at her flying into the air. She scowls at the librarian a moment longer- the pamphlets fluttering to the floor to be trampled underfoot by any passerby- before rolling her eyes and bending down to help pick some of the shitty things up.]

Which, in theory, should make the whole getting access thing a little tricky, right? But then again, no one else had arrived with credentials either...

She gnawed her lip for a moment before finally prying herself away from the view to glance around the hallway. The fastest way to learn was just to ask, right? There had to be someone she could charge over to.]

[ He has his sword out, but it isn't pointing at anything in particular. His arm is shaking. He is having trouble staying on his feet. He blamed the earlier withdrawal symptoms on his usual land sickness. Too much time on solid land tended to make him dizzy and nauseated.]

[After hours of searching this new place around for any familar faces (like Lyra or Silver) or a pokemon center, which both ended in failure, Ethan decides to settle at the beach. It wasn't so bad...It quite reminded him of the shores of Olivine City.

Sitting beside him along the shore is his Typhlosion who is looking awfully tense and intently at the waves along the shore, ready to grab his master and make them back up farther if the waves hit the shore any closer to them.
Someone should splash the fire pokemon and see what happens! ]
