Welcome to the Rekindle Test Drive! Trying to see if a character will fit or work in the setting? Need some interaction samples? Well this meme is for you! Make a post, tag around, and most importantly, have fun! Here's the setting page for those who want to learn a little more about the city itself. Then don't forget to go reserve your character in a week when they open. Here's some prompts to help you get started, if you need it: Option 1 [While the days grow longer and warmer and the older, oriental-style of the city would normally make one think that the interiors would not be much in the way of relief from the hot sun, it may surprise the guest to see that the apartments the natives have allocated for them are surprisingly comfortable. In fact, the only modern convenience they may be missing is a television set! At least, outside the media floor on the first floor of Building One - the first of four inter-connected buildings. In fact, each apartment building seems to have at least one different amenity on the first floor. In Building Two they seemed to even spare a library in another that seems to have the basics and some information packets that are otherwise found in the Welcome Center in District 2. There are even a few restaurants and common dining areas in the Building Three that are open until late at night, and meeting areas and a ballroom on the first floor in Building Four, perfect for setting up small parties or big events. With the locals gone save those who work in the restaurants and the one librarian, leaving you to your own devices, what will you do? What mysteries could be left to discover in this place?] Option 2 [With summer coming, the water level in the river is starting to go down, exposing some of the beach. The Riverside Shack is open late, and its restaurant is pulling out all the stops and offering seafood specials (even though a river is a far cry from an ocean). The rental store, meanwhile, is finally bringing out more of its swimming supplies, inner tubes and pool noodles, and a calmer stretch of the river has been roped off with buoys for swimming. They even have lifeguards chairs set up. Clearly this sort of thing used to be an annual event. It's not quite an ocean beach (quite different actually), but there's still plenty of chance to have fun in the water. Or teach someone to swim, perhaps.] Option 3 [If you're more inclined to explore or learn, the City's Learning Center might be more to your tastes. There certainly seems to be a lot going on here - there's laboratories and libraries and workshops, and plenty of communal areas where you can meet and talk with people. The natives seem pretty absorbed with their studies and work, though they're polite in brushing you off, at least. Perhaps you'll have more luck seeing what other Guests such as yourself have discovered?] Option 4 [Whoops. Looks like you haven't taken the cautionary words of the other NPCs to heart, or maybe you just wanted to take your chances. Either way, the withdrawal symptoms have started and you need to find someone to hug quickly before you get even more sick.] Option 5 [If there's something else you wanted to play with, that you didn't see here, then have fun with that. You've just arrived in a strange city, after all. There's got to be plenty to explore out and about, not to mention people to meet.]

[the river is inviting, and the dark sand of the river's beach is soft, but Shinji is spending the day sitting on his towel with his earbuds in, enjoying the silence and solitude. In this place, he was almost never alone anymore - so any chance for him to avoid constant embarrassment is welcome.

He sighs and flops onto his back. Soon enough, he'll start to feel ill and dizzy. But until then...]

[even while Shinji is busy flopped on his back and listening to his sweet tunes, completely oblivious to any impending danger and trying to avoid constant embarrassment, it doesn't take long for it to find him anyway. it doesn't take long for the beach to become rather crowded and full of boisterous shouting children, including several indulging in some friendly beach sports!!

so it's with a hard thump that a stray volleyball sails in a direct arc, hits Shinji squarely on the side of the head and spins away across the sand to be chased by a boy in blue swimming shorts and an unbuttoned shirt, his expression nearly manic. with Shinji's earbuds still in, it most likely looks completely alarming rather than any level of reassuring at all, especially with his arms waving frantically like he's not quite sure whether he should be retrieving the ball to make sure it doesn't hit anyone else, or if he should be leaning down to check whether or not Shinji is out cold.

and even if the other boy is shouting, Shinji probably won't be able to hear a word of his speech until he pulls them out anyway. not that he seems to be noticing.]

[How long had it been since she'd had a chance to enjoy the beach? Really enjoy-enjoy it. Not just the sights, but the feel of the cold water splashing against her skin. The salty air stinging her nostrils. The warm, inviting sun as it beat down upon her skin.]

[Especially the latter. Never let it be said she would never take full advantage of working on her tan. Having just the right vantage point from behind her sunglasses to check out the view was an added bonus.]

[Time was inconsequential to an immortal, and listening to the stupid ramblings of whatever idiots had summoned here, even less his time. Worst of all, he still couldn't find Teekl. The hell was that cat when he needed her?]

[Klarion felt...strange. Not that he would admit so, but the frown that seemed etched into his features by now betrayed his discomfort. He didn't like it. Not one bit. And he was perfectly prepared to take it out on the next person who dared approach him. Whether or not they were actually responsible.]

[Oh look, someone daring to approach his short and brattiness. And she seems to be doing...uh, not remarkably well. Somebody else was suffering from certain symptoms related to a decided lack of physical contact, and she was probably every bit as thrilled at the idea of doing what was necessary to alleviate them.

Difference was, while most would break out in a sweat, being a liquid, she was basically sweating herself. And having difficulty keeping certain features fully formed, to say nothing of her human form. No surprise she wasn't paying attention to where she was going, or if there were any spoiled magical brats in the way.]

[ Mitsunari has no need for physical contact. Not only did he not need it, he quite hated it.

At least he will now find out the hard way that it would be important when days turned into weeks and he was starting to go from fatigued to sluggish, at least for someone that excelled in speed like Mitsunari did, and ill.

Dizziness was ailing Mitsunari and he ended up needing to lean against a wall as he tried to make his way for his housing, leering at anyone that tried to approach him. But with how his face was flushed with a feverish red, the glares weren't he most intimidating. ]

I'm fine... I'm just fine! [ he growled to himself as he almost bumps into you trying to get by.]

[Does hitting someone count as physical contact? At least Mitsunari would wonder that if he knew about that important part of being here. But for now, he is anxious about knowing what this place is. Some parts of it reminded him of home but it also was so different.

These books were so different from scrolls he was used to reading from. Maps sure were more compact than scrolls, as well... Before this frustrated the warrior anymore, he none-too-politely grabs you.]

[ He'd thought briefly on going to the beach, but really sand didn't appeal to him the same way that parks and fields did; instead he found himself rather drawn to the learning center. It may have been the libraries that made him feel a little more at home, reminded him of Blood and his penchant for books, but he didn't really dwell on the reasoning all that much once he'd gotten there.

He never did make it to the any of the libraries, however, overcome by a sudden wave of dizziness. Strange, he'd felt fine before aside from being a little tired but it was nothing to fuss about, right...?

It dawned on him as he rested against a chair in the common area, weren't these things they had been warned about when getting here? A snort to himself as he finally settled into that chair; nah, it couldn't be. Obviously he was just tired, perhaps a nap would clear things up in no time.

Comfortable, but definitely not perfect, he supposed. He was far too tall for the chair, legs outstretched well into the walkway but he didn't seem to notice. Or perhaps he didn't care, either way his legs may or may not be in someone's way. ]

[It was a rabbit. Or perhaps a hare? Either way, Alice had a rather bad habit of following them. So when Alice saw the animal heading about, she had to follow. One simply didn't not follow a creature with rabbit ears. So when she the man sit down, she was inclined to come close. Except, she hadn't noticed his legs, too focused on his ears.

And with a loud exclamation, Alice found herself tripping over the man's legs.]

[There's at least one person in the first floor media room who doesn't seem all that interested in watching television, or in taking advantage of much else that the room had to offer. And, in fact, she wasn't - after noting with a bit of surprise that most of the machina in the room wasn't at all sphere-based, the thought was lost amidst a mess of more important worries. She could ponder aesthetic differences later, assuming there really wasn't a way out of here.

She stood by a wall, arms crossed and eyes cast downward, reviewing her options one last time. Trying to convince the natives to send her home had been like trying to coax a brick wall into intelligent conversation. Trying to find a way herself...well, regardless of how she went about that, it didn't seem like a good idea to take it on as a solo mission, unless she had no choice.

And she wasn't even going to consider the waiting it out option - not until she was forced to. Especially with that physical contact nonsense to worry about. Paine wasn't all that keen on getting cozy with strangers.

So it was decided. On the off change that Yuna or Rikku were here, or heck, even Brother--no, scratch that. Brother would be no help at all in this situation. But she needed to try, one last time, to see if they were here.

She may not look like she wants company, but you might still be able to get her to stop and talk before she walks off.]

Talrovian had discovered the network terminals that marked street corners all around the city. He had been immediately enraptured by them... not that this was a rare kind of occurrence for him, as he could find just about anything fascinating, but it was the latest delight for him here in the delightful Saeng Seong.

Being fay-raised, he hadn't gotten a lot of close exposure to technology, barring the kinds his mother-creator tried to reinvent or otherwise work into her experiments. Something like a computer had far too many parts to remain stable and working in the magical presence of a fay, and he'd never had exposure to one.

He was curious and intelligent, however, (it was part of his purpose) and it didn't take him long to figure out how the terminals worked, though he probably spammed the network with nonsense posts of every kind in the process. Even when he found the 'delete' function, he left most of them posted, because they amused and delighted him.

The seven-foot-tall patchwork construct was still entertaining himself with the still image function, treating the terminal like some kind of photo booth, when he reached the point where this just had to be shared. That's when he leaned out of the terminal in search of friendly-looking passers-by to flag down to join him.

"Hey, hey!" he'd call, his voice resonant from his internal copper workings but otherwise identifiably young and male. "Come look at this!"

Lee was a pretty tall fellow himself, so seeing somebody lean out into the hallway like that who's a whole head taller than he was caught his attention anyway. Being hailed by him meant he did more than stare, anyway, while Hester peered out from under the brim of his hat in confusion. They'd never seen a person who seemed to be made out of fabric, before.

"Look at what?" he asked. "Y'find somethin' interesting on those things?"

[It had certainly been a strange place in which Fergus had found himself. And certainly it seemed nothing like the places that he had known save for this area with the river, though his leg sank quite a bit more than he expected close to the water. Cooling off in the water seemed much more natural than the machines inside, and there was far more life and laughter to be heard outside than in.

After a good bit though the King finally flops down on the ground with a rather unceremonious thud to look out over it.]

[Fergus had been working on making a bow when he first fell slightly out of sorts. In fact it was while stringing it that he found himself a bit topsy and had to take a sudden seat under the trees where he was. Not being one to take very much stock in magic, even after the events with Elinor magic and fairy tales were something he was hesitant to give stock to. Fergus had waved off the idea of magically needing anything. Aye it was just that he needed soemthing to eat or drink that was all.]

[Somebody had a bow! Not that Pippin could shoot a bow, mind, especially not a bow that was taller than he was, but he at least knew what they were. This whole city wasn't really full of things he knew much about, but he knew about bows.

So he was already on his way over to say hello to the fellow carrying it when said fellow quite suddenly sat down, looking woozy. He picked up the pace to a jog. Not that he was likely to be able to help much, given he probably looked like a child next to the giant man (he looked like a child next to most men, but shh), but he still had to ask.]

Are you all right?

[Funny thing. His accent was actually a lot like Fergus's accent, despite being from the highlands of the Shire rather than of Scotland.]

[Kanonno's a little (read: really) down about being suddenly taken to a new world, but she's doing her best to get out of it. After all, there's people here who need help too, and it wouldn't be right to ignore them either.

[So this was a strange sight or adorable... depending on whom you ask. A little blue koala, dog-like thing tries to get your attention by tugging on your hand/pant leg or tapping your shoulder and then he holds up a sign for you to see.

And as soon as she feels the hem of her dress being tugged on to look down and SEE said absolutely adorable creature with a simple sign that says hug me, Stitch doesn't even have time to flip it over before Alice has scooped him up in her arms to hug him tight.]

[ Oh goodie. Boat rentals. She could think of many ways renting a boat could go wrong, like murder and being framed for murder. But this entire place was so... touch-happy and she wants a moment to herself. No touching. No whipping. Just her, a book, and a peaceful river.

But first she has to push the boat towards the river, something that she is currently having some difficulty with. Groaning with about as much dignity as she would let herself groan, she pushes. She tries to see if she could lift it. She pushes it again.

All she manages to do was make this small, heavy line on the soil with her boat.

In her frustration, she kicks the boat. And now she's biting her lip to keep herself from screaming because that was stupid hurt. ]

[Apollo's never been a huge fan of water - it harmed the health of his hair, and he puts a lot of effort into getting it to look like that, you know - but, seeing as the heat is trying to mess with his antennae anyway, a trip to the river couldn't be so bad, right?

He avoids the beach and the sand that comes with it in favor for dipping his feet into the river. As he makes his way past the sand, he hears some... very dignified grunting. There seems to be a young woman struggling with a boat. And now she looks to be in pain after a very wise decision to kick the boat in frustration.

He approaches her with caution.]

Option 1:
[It's growing late, but the time doesn't deter Kerry, who is set upon exploring as much as he can. Who needs sleep? He's going to cover every inch of this building. However, exploring is hungry work, which is why he stopped at the restaurant. As he's walking, he is now also eating a hamburger and french fries. He's so caught up in his curiosity and, deliciously, food, that he might not be paying the most attention to where he's going...]

Option 2:
[Swimming! This'll be great. He loves swimming, and he's good at it. The thought of it and the sight of the water is enough to make him forget himself for a brief moment, all his worries flowing away. That's why he runs across the beach, fully clothed, and leaps into the water at full speed and full force. For a moment, he feels like he's flying. For a moment, he can forget about everything bad.

Sorry if you're in the vicinity, because you're going to get splashed by this kid right here.]

[Kerry is hard at work studying. Surrounded by books, he's reading them with a slight frown and a furrowed brow. It's unclear why, exactly, he's studying, but anyone who looks closely will see that they're all about mythological creatures. For instance: vampires. This is clearly important business.]

[A pair of big golden eyes peeks up over a stack of books at Kerry. The owner of said eyes is balancing on his tiptoes and still is only just barely able to make himself seen. He seems about to ask a question when a book with a very brightly decorated cover catches his eye.

Hey, do those...books, the lady said they are called. Do they really hold the monsters of old? Is it safe to open them like that?

[In an effort to stay on top of things, Guy stands back, watching with both interest and curiosity as people bustle about the Learning Center. He's tried peeking into one of the laboratories, and already he's finding it amazing how different this place is from Auldrant. And the people here too.]

[Guy rests one arm against a nearby wall and takes a good look around. He's been managing pretty well, all things considered, but it seems that getting by on handshakes and friendly shoulder thumps just isn't going to cut it. And it's not like he can waltz up to just anyone and ask for a hug - the main problem being half the population's made up of women. Not that he'd mind--well, it wasn't like that. Still, burdening someone and then recoiling in terror isn't exactly the best impression to make.]

Not to mention that talking to people itself wasn't easy to him and actually making friends with newly met people was even harder to do. After all, he was only an introverted timid bookworm.

It shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that after a while Ruca was beginning to be affected by the illness. Even though he was well aware of it he couldn't bring himself to ask anyone for help.

History, politics, science... if he is to solve their problem, the first step is uncovering its nature. It remains to be seen whether their captors intend to keep their promises. Saïx would not wager anything that he would prefer to keep.

No -- the effort implied by their imprisonment suggests some greater plot. What it may be, he has yet to uncover. In the meantime, presenting himself as a cooperative prisoner may afford him access... and more information about this place can only help.

He rubs his eyes, staving off a wave of dizziness.

There is that as well, he thinks, and turns the page. Sometime soon, he will have to find someone to hug.]

Diarmuid Ua Duibhine (Age 6) ** Fate/Zero (W/ some help from Irish Myth) ** Option 2

(OOC: Diarmuid has been pulled from his first life at about age 6 with the intent of eventually canon updating him through his first life and his life as a servant.)

[Diarmuid giggles quietly to himself, rolling back and forth on his heels. The water is so pretty! It might not be the sea his father had said he was going to take him to see someday, but it is still a great deal of fun to watch the waves move. His eyes twinkle reflecting the light of the sun. He really would like to go swimming like so many others are, but father hasn't taught him yet. He was going to when they went to the sea.

So instead of swimming, the little boy sits just close enough to the edge of water that it will lap against his bare feet. Every so often, he gets a little braver and creeps forward splashes around in the shallows. Diarmuid doesn't go too far in, though. His father has warned him several times how dangerous water can be and he doesn't want to take any chances.

Father would be very upset if something happened to him before he could get back home from this fairy realm after all, and Diarmuid would be sad if his father was upset.]

[And, suddenly, a boy around Diarmuid's age, maybe a little younger, peers out of the water. He raises his arms and quickly pushes some water at Diarmuid in a large splash.]

[truthfully, saralegui loves physical contact. but doing it because of the rules of some other world he was kidnapped to kinda ruins whatever fun there might have been. that, plus the fact that he's not exactly ready to accept something like that before testing it out himself, means that this was pretty much an inevitable outcome.

he probably should have just accepted that after feeling his houryoku faltering during the first week, or even during the initial dizzy spells. it certainly would have been a lot more dignified than this, attempting to stagger home without pausing to rest against a lamp post every thirty feet.]

[he isn't the first Sasuke has seen in this state, and it isn't that he himself hasn't felt the effects, either, but each time is just as pathetic as the last. The difference, he believes, is in strength. Sasuke has power on his side, training and meditation to ignore the pain. He's a shinobi, it's as much a part of him as breathing.

Nevertheless, he turns his face the direction of the staggered sounds. Hs mouth twists into something like irritation, but a glance around shows that at this hour, nobody else is around.

He makes no move to help, but neither does he move to walk away. His expression returns to something stoic as he watches the blond stagger down the street in his direction]

Madge Undersee | The Hunger Games | Option 4

[Madge was a withdrawn person by nature. It was part of what had kindled her friendship with Katniss... and part of what made everyone else think she was stand off-ish.

But so much physical contact being required? Well, that seemed like a bit much, didn't it? That's what she thought until she found it difficult to get out of bed and was having trouble even thinking about eating...]

[ Gale wasn't one to... touch others, simply for the sake of touching. When they'd told him that it was a necessary part of life Saeng Seong, he'd only scoffed and gone about his business - exploring his new prison.

That is, until he started to feel a little sick.

It felt like the onset of a cold. He'd had plenty of those as a kid from a poor family, and he'd taken care of his own siblings when they suffered the same. There was the dizziness, the fatigue, the nausea... and it only kept getting worse. Even though he should have been resting, Gale had stubbornly fought to keep going, certain that if there was a way to bring people here, there was also a way to send them back, and he needed to take care of his family. But stubborn, bullheadedness could only get you so far, and he had just about reached his limit. It was past time to lie down.

Leaning heavily against the walls for support, Gale dragged himself toward the guest apartments. Any old room would do. He didn't care which, so long as there was a place to rest. The first door he found unlocked, he stumbled through and almost missed seeing that the bed was already occupied. He let out a low groan of frustration and leaned back against the door, trying to earn up the will to keep moving and find another room. ]

[ now, now, little girls were generally supposed to be able to swim. then again, little girls were generally not supposed to have tails or ears. aruz, never learning to swim and being absolutely thrilled with the prospect of being able to, stands on the very edge of the river beach. her knees are knocked together and her bare toes wiggle in the dirt and she grasps the floating tube around her waist tightly.

then, she bends, like she's about to throw herself in. her wing floaties even squeak against the rubber of the tube, and she closes her eyes tight (even if they're obscured by goggles and a snorkel).

... nothing happens. she exhales and bows her head and presses her hands against her face.

but what if she drowns?! what if the tube pops and her floaties pop and her snorkel doesn't work--

she breathes in again and puffs her chest out, grasps her tube once more, and glares at the water. ]

I can do this! I can do this!

[ she puffs out her cheeks, but it fades suddenly as a wave of dizziness comes over her, and she shakes her head. this is what the natives warned about, isn't it? she quickly darted her gaze around, trying to see who was nearby. ]

[ while it appears most little girls did not, this woman certainly has a pair of ears and tail of her own. she's.. keeping a bit of a good distance from the water, not that she was afraid- she just didn't get wet unless it was necessary. which by the way wasn't when you could just form lilypads to make your way across.

however, curiously has kept her within the area and now her attention had been on the young girl for a while now whom looked prepared and ready to go swimming.

and yet, did not. the hesitation was read easily in her posture and expression when she sees her face, and Amaterasu can only lightly tilt her head to the side with the continued curiosity. ears twitch as she hears and only then does she push further down the shore towards where the girl stood. ]

Do you want to swim? [ which clearly she wants to if she were here, but the hesitation was something to comment on. ]

[It didn't much bother Kisuke that the natives kept to themselves when it came to sharing practical knowledge about this new world that he found himself in. It was enough that they opened their laboratories and libraries for his and other non-natives to use. In any case he had always preferred to make his own discoveries.

The lab was not what he was used to, especially with several pieces of equipment he wasn't familiar with, but he's having lots of fun finding out.

Go ahead, interrupt him if you like. Kisuke won't mind. Don't worry about the test tub that just exploded on the lab table giving out pink smoke; it's completely harmless~]

4. [Kisuke had no problem holding hands, petting, hugging, or kissing other people (even if they were people he didn't know) considering he was a self-proclaimed pervert. Especially if it was vital to his survival. What he was more interested in was testing to see if the words of warning regarding physical contact were true. As it was, he's written quite a few notes on the first two stages already.

He knew he hit this third stage the natives told him when he started feeling physically nauseous and finding it harder and harder to take legible notes. Kisuke glanced down at what he'd jotted down, grimacing when the words appeared to do a shimmer up and down on the page.

Closing his eyes he dropped the pen carelessly on top of an open notebook he'd been writing in and flopped to the ground, closing his eyes.] Just a 10 minute break should be alright... then maybe he'd go find someone to hug.]

[Well, it wasn't that he hadn't taken that advice on purpose, but...well. After going for so long without any sort of companionship, putting those terms on the table were rather difficult to live up to. At least he wouldn't be captured here! That was one thing he didn't have to worry about.

To be honest, his powers weakening hadn't worried him either. If anything, it was a relief! On the other hand, the lethargy wasn't much fun at all. Still, despite the dizziness he just kept a serene look on his face. His condition was obvious, but that did nothing to dissuade him.

He was putting a lot of distance between himself and everyone else though. Even something as innocent as walking beside him was met with more distance. Being around so many people for this long was not his usual way of doing things, thanks to his previous circumstances.]

[What will she do? Well... Scurry might be a good word for it. She's naturally curious, as one might expect a child her age to be, and she is also unusually tenacious and invasive once she has discovered something that catches her eye. As a result, it's not uncommon for her to wind up underfoot—sometimes literally, as she doesn't have much concept of personal space, either. If you're doing anything remotely of interest, watch out.]

[It seems that, in her enthusiasm, Assassin forged her way into one of the forbidden districts. She isn't quite sure what to do with herself now. Even now that she has left, she feels strange and unpleasant, and she can't stop shivering. She stands on the corner of a street not far away, oblivious to her surroundings as her shoulders shake violently.]
