Test Drive - May Edition

Belated May Test Drive! Trying to see if a character will fit or work in the setting? Need some interaction samples? Well this meme is for you! Make a post, tag around, and most importantly, have fun! Here's the setting page for those who want to learn a little more about the city itself. And don't forget to go reserve your character, GO GO GO.......

((PS: We’ve also gotten a suggestion to try and post our Test Drives on the same day as the Activity Check goes up! That is, the last day of the month. We may try that out next time, and see how it works!))

Here's some prompts to help you get started, if you need it:

Option 1

[Animals, animals everywhere! All over the different parts of the city…And perhaps paying you a visit as well! In a strange manner, as you might find yourself looking over Saeng Seong in a different, more fuzzy perspective.]

Option 2

[Petals keep falling on your head; or at least they have a persistent habit of falling from trees that are in full bloom. And as a consequence they form a nice array of color floating on the wind…Or perhaps getting in one’s face and blocking vision. Or in the worst case, causing a sneezing fit from the excess pollen. Still, at least there’s some flowers to help liven up the air?]

Option 3

[Whoops. Looks like you haven't taken the cautionary words of the other NPCs to heart, or maybe you just wanted to take your chances. Either way, the withdrawal symptoms have started and you need to find someone to hug quickly before you get even more sick.]

Option 4

[If there's something else you wanted to play with, that you didn't see here, then have fun with that. You've just arrived in a strange city, after all. There's got to be plenty to explore out and about, not to mention people to meet.]

"Something like that. They've replaced regular animals in most of the ecological niches in my world. They're smarter, though, and have some unusual abilities." Uh-oh, he's going into lecture mode; if you don't stop him he'll talk your ear off. "Dragonite here is a fully-evolved Dragon-type, which is one of the rarer, more powerful types, and has a lot of resistances."

[He takes a step back when Krok kneels, taking a sharp breath through his nose as his posture tenses. Despite being here without incident for the past couple weeks, he's still rather jumpy at unfamiliar situations. Which is most everything these days.

But he's learning, albeit slowly. He mumbles a response, still not really used to having conversations with strangers.]

Just tired. [He avoids the robot's gaze for a moment, conflicted. If he's this out of it, maybe he should just go ahead and do what the letter suggested. It was fine. It was a decision he was making himself, wasn't it? He wasn't just following orders.] Probably the contact thing.

"Like one of those critter battle video games? This I've gotta see," Kyoko says, flipping her ponytail behind her shoulder. "How did you snag him?"

Not that she believes in this nonsense or anything.

"I raised Dragonite from a baby. It's been with me for decades now." He reaches over to affectionately rub Dragonite's snout.

If that's true, that's almost sweet. Not that she's gonna say it.

"That's a cool story and everything, but really weird. Princes and knights are always doing that stuff in stories, so are you gonna tell me you've got a kingdom next?"

She folds her arms again, still skeptical.

"A kingdom...?" He laughs at that. "No, I'm not royalty or anything like that. Just a humble professor." A professor that's considered the world's greatest authority on Pokemon, but there's no need to mention that.

"So what do you study?"

The answer should be obvious...but whatever his world is, it sounds weird. She's not trusting it.

Nor Dragonite. Though she's relaxed the tiniest bit. Really, a bright orange dragon that this man has tamed. Like she believes that.

"Pokemon." That was simple enough to answer. "Specifically, the relationships and bonds between Pokemon and people. We have a lot to gain from each other."

Now that she's not openly disbelieving it anymore, Dragonite's aura of aggression has vanished. Honestly, it looks bored as it sits down and starts scratching its thigh with one of its claws.

"So...wait, how many of these Pokémon do you have, anyway? Does this guy take all your time?"

She'll play along, sure. It's...actually almost interesting to watch the big guy.

"Dragonite is the only one I have with me at the moment. Back home, I had hundreds to care for, but most of them weren't mine."

Meanwhile, Dragonite catches her gaze and flashes a grin. Hey there.

Kyoko most definitely doesn't smile the faintest bit. It's a trick of the light.

"Right, right. Studying. So are they all that big?"

[symbolofstrength]

"Most of them are smaller," he indicates the size by hovering his hand near his hip, so about the size of a dog? "But there are a few that are even bigger." He indicates Dragonite. "Dragonite actually gets smaller when it evolves."

Why hello thief; come to give the good detective a job?

[When there'd been mention by some of the shop keepers of some things going missing from their shops; nothing major, but enough for Naoto to take notice, she began to pay extra attention to her fellow guests, especially the new ones.]

...

[So imagine her interest when she sees that brilliant red head'd girl trying to make off with a box of candy; could this be the one they're dealing with? Hmm. That bag looks fuller than went it came in, besides...]

Did you overspend your card's allowance already this month, miss...?

"Seriously? Evolving...doesn't that mean getting stronger?"

Kyoko takes a tiny step closer to the big guy. He's...kinda cute.

[rebelieve]

What? No way. My card's perfect.

[Perfectly untouched. She shrugs and makes an attempt to slip away.]

Sam nods. "Dragonair is twice the length of Dragonite, but it has a serpentine body. Dragonite is bulkier and much heavier." More than ten times heavier, in fact.

Meanwhile, Dragonite slowly holds out one of its arms. If she wants to be friends, it'll give her a second chance!

"Huh. Gotta support those wings somehow, I guess."

And it's totally crazy, but everything about this place fits that description anyway. Kyoko briefly glances at the ring on her finger---she can protect herself if things get bad. And there's always a chance they will.

She tentatively extends a hand to Dragonite, on high alert for a sign of aggression---but her magic still doesn't react. This man tamed a dragon some way or another.

"The name's Kyoko, by the way. No offense, but this is still weird."

Dragonite closes the gap and shakes her hand, crooning happily.

"Professor Samuel Oak. It's nice to meet you, Kyoko." He's smiling now that she and Dragonite are getting along. "I imagine it would take a while to get used to Pokemon if you haven't grown up with them."

[Only for Naoto to grab her hand, pulling it up high in an attempt to stop her.]

So why would you feel the need to steal from honest business owners, I wonder...?

[Now, where was that box of candy? Best place to look was that bag of hers...]

[ When Iori should pass by one of the cherry blossom trees while admiring the sight of Spring, the ever playful Pikachu that's hanging around in it nimbly locates himself onto the branch that's above her and shakes it! Down comes a few petals, even a flower or two, over the girl.

Hope you don't mind! ]

Dragonite and Sam aren't the only ones in the sky. Birds fly, people can fly -- well, if there's any people flying around without creatures to support them is up to them. However, there's at least another pokémon up there that the two can come across that should be plenty recognisable to an expert professor such as Sam Oak.

Approach, travellers?

Oh...!

[ There's a dramatic, and surprised yell from Iori's end as she clenches her hands into tight, balled fists. ]

Really? But why would you like this place the best?

[littlerat]

[ Admittedly, Red wasn't completely paying attention himself to the people around him as much as he should have, walking and talking to the Pikachu on his shoulder. He was aware enough that they were there, but apparently not to how close that man out of the corner of his eye really was. Pikachu's squeak of a warning isn't quick enough to make him move though, and the side of his arm hits against him, with more force and bluntness that it should for just knocking a bit into a person.

He doesn't fall, but the bump does make him stumble, Pikachu losing his own balance from where he sits and finding himself on the ground, at least with good enough reflexes to hit his feet. Red's stunned himself for a second, wondering what he knocked but not seeing anything other than the man himself.

But he finds some composure before the man does, enough to notice the way he stares more intensely than he himself had. ]

Sorry. [ He touches the side of his own elbow, just gently, feeling that good ol' funny bone nerve tingling. ] Are you okay?

[ Pikachu on the floor is okay! The mouse takes a step close to Red's foot, looking up at the man. ]

Oh-?!

[ There's some surprise as she speaks, bright eyes widening as she speaks, seeing the petals fall down, a flower landing right on top of her head. Which makes her surprised as she looks up. ]

...Aaaaaah!

[ Okay, she probably was a little too loud with that scream. ]

Ah, aha... ahaha. Sorry, but hi there! I hope I didn't scare you off, you're so cute! Ahhh, I bet Yui would be really jealous of me right about now, hehehe.

[ It's Pikachu's fault, really. He knows by now that people are more unfamiliar with his kind than not, but he just couldn't help himself when he saw her! The scream does makes him jump back on the branch, more so for her sake than his own or from fear. But once she speaks out in a much calmer voice, he peaks his head back out to look at her.

And oh, she sounds much better now! He shakes his head at the apology, then his face brightens. Pikachu gives her a wave, along with a squeak in greeting. Hi there yourself!

Following that, Pikachu will decide to get down onto ground level, jumping off from the tree and landing on all fours, then picking himself up onto his back legs and facing her. ]
